I think Kittery Trading Post is slipping. I bought several guns and a lot of shooting accessories and supplies from them. I used to look forward to my trips there. I used to buy clothes and boots there in addition to shooting equipment. I will no longer go there. The shooting department is very poorly stocked now and their policies have changed which gives me the impression they are going out of the shooting business and don't care about long time loyal customers. read more

This is quite a fun place to explore, even for the non-consummate outdoorsman. In addition to every kind of outdoor equipment imaginable, the Kittery Trading Post offers a wide variety of clothing, footwear, local gifts, even a fudge shop in the middle of the store. My husband and I planned to stop in for a minutes just to look around and ended up spending a couple of hours. Given that KTP is an independent retailer, I would have expected the prices to be higher than they are, but found them to be reasonable, especially given the quality of the merchandise. I purchased a pair of Royal Robbins hiking pants for $70 ($75 on Royal Robbins's website) and a pair of Oboz hiking shoes for $125 ($140 on the Oboz website), and obviously I'd rather support a local business than buy online! The employees who assisted me were very knowledgable - David in particular gave me great advice about what type of shoes would be best for an upcoming hiking trip to northern Wales. read more

Went in for some new gloves and possibly a jacket. Left with some gloves, chocolate cover peanut brittle and some elk sausage. I'm surprised I didnt leave with half the store! Their glove collection was quite large and full of a lot of great brands for reasonable prices. Ended up with 2 nice pairs of kinkos. The peanut brittle is delicious( couldn't pass up on all the candy they laid out) and the elk sausage was quite good, think slim Jim with less grease and indigestion. 2 for 2 with great experiences read more

My first time up here with my husband who used to come every year with his father when he was little. He had sort of built it up in my mind that this was going to be just like Cabela's and he was pretty close except this place had a lot more to offer. We spent almost 5 hours here, checking everything out and making sure we didn't miss a thing. Was happy to see a busy gun section And we actually ended up purchasing a shotgun. Standard process takes forever for paperwork but great customer service! I was a big fan of the knickknacky stuff on the bottom floor while my husband could've camped all day on the second floor with the guns and knives. It's definitely a Destination and I look forward to going again in the winter! It was so crowded in the summer I'm hoping for fewer people to have to elbow around. read more

OMG, this place is epic. I worked there packing outgoing mail orders for several summers when I was in high school. But everyone who lives in this area shops here regularly. It is not known for it's low prices however if you shop the clearance racks you can make some incredible finds. What the place does have in addition to historic charm, is a great team of buyers. The products are always top notch. KTP is the place you go when you want something good: a great pair of shoes, an unusual sports shirt, Maine and New England souvenirs, camping gear, and the list goes on. It's tough to find anyone to help you while you are shopping but cashing out is usually very efficient. Most of the staff is wonderful. It is a fun place to work and a great place to visit if you are in the area, even if you have been there before. They continuously add new inventory and reduce the pricing on older inventory so it pays to shop there regularly. Kittery Trading Post is one of the must-see destinations in this area. Make sure you add it to your list if you are traveling here. You don't want to miss it. At Christmas they bring in real live reindeer for the kids. Driving up to Maine to visit family, we saw a billboard or two advertising this spot. I have somehow become the "memory keeper" of the family and am now somewhat obsessed with finding the perfect little keepsake from each destination we visit...in particular, I always am on the lookout for a Christmas ornament. On the very last day of our trip, I still had not found one, and then we decided to check out the trading post. I was happy with what I found inside!! Not only did I find the perfect Christmas ornament (a bright red shiny lobster! ha!), but there were many options and other tchotchkes available. Some snack options were around, plush toys, pretty much just about whatever a tourist-type would want for gifts for themselves or others. The staff were polite, no one went out of their way or anything (but I didn't need them to), the store was clean; it was as expected with a large selection. The store is huge and has everything a person could want for the outdoors. Plenty of parking. The gun shop area has a massive selection of new and used guns, ammo, anything you could possibly want that is gun related. The gun salespeople tend to ignore you so if you need some help you have to speak up. The shoe dept however was very welcoming. Mark especially helped me find the exact boots I needed and was an interesting guy to talk to. This place is definitely worth a visit. Very few brick and mortar stores around like this anymore. LL Bean in Freeport Maine and this place are the best ones I've been to on the east coast. read more

I have been shopping at the Kittery Trading Post for over 35 years. I suggest that you look online rather than make the trek up to Maine if you are looking for something in particular. Sadly, my rating has decreased recently. It used to be a huge fan and since I lived a mile from the store I stopped in often. Prices have slowly risen to the point of unreasonable. One piece of Turtle Candy (albeit a good size) is $3.50. There are no real bargains to be had. In truth, the issue that prompted my review is a troubling one-- certain customers are often ignored in the gun dept. Today I was asked if I was "a local". Is there a right answer to that question? I am former military and have small arms expert ribbon yet at the gun counter I was ignored by the salesman standing immediately in front of me. Instead my husband was asked if HE needed help. I purchased my first gun there in 1985 and was treated respectfully, in a friendly, laid back fashion.The difference is that was when the Air Force Base was open. Now,some salesmen treat women as though they are "wannabee" Mae Wests. I look at this sport as a great hobby where one can practice hand/eye coordination and at the same time learn to defend oneself--even the fact that I get a lot of questions creeps me out (I already have my federal firearms license). The point here is that my days of going here and being comfortable asking questions about the finer points of different guns are over. Women: From the other comments I have read it is not your paranoia as to how you are treated. KTP:. I notice that when I am in the clothing or shoe department I get immediate service yet not in the firearms department. In an attempt to be unbiased, I am listing the pros: 1) unusual items such as ice cleats in winter, wide array of boot styles, shoe styles and a surprising mixture of outside clothing, sweaters, all types of hats, parkas, and a decent sized camping department. Cons: $$$$$, As an alternative check out some of the actual OUTLET stores for cheaper prices (can be as much as 50% less). All manner of outdoor sporting goods/gear are available. Get on the mailing list and wait for sales.Their fall sale event is a really fun time to get prizes, take lessons on random things and get decent discounts. KTP prices have slowly risen to beyond EXPENSIVE and a dose of good ole' Maine superiority should not come as a door prize. I suggest you investigate why you have reviews where customers have the experience of being ignored in the gun dept--it is not a good ole boys club--is it? This is not my favorite place to go when I hit the Kittery Outlets. I think it's geared more towards men and people who like outdoorsy things like camping, so not my cup of tea. For what it is, it's lovely. Great selection at least. From what I can compare, the prices aren't the greatest. We looked at rifles. My first time holding a rifle. The sales people were very helpful. Other reviewers mentioned possible gender discrimination at the firearms section, making it more difficult for women, but I did not find that to be true. The salesmen were very helpful in assisting me and very patient with me as I knew nothing. However my friend with me was male and maybe that affected things but I don't think so. If you have time to head up to LLBean they also have a great selection of rifles (which I never knew) and some antiques which I did not see at KTP. Both stores are great. I recommend them both. I am compelled to write this review although I have never personally been to Kittery Trading Post. Long story short, I placed an online order through an eBay seller that resulted in a fraudulent transaction which left both myself and KTP on the hook. eBay responsibly took care of me on my end, but the reason I write this review is to commend KTP and their staff for their upstanding commitment to customer service - - even though in this situation, I was not even a direct customer of theirs. A phone conversation with Steven at KTP resolved both our unfortunate situations caused by this third party scammer. Doing business online is always a risk and although unfortunately this time both Kittery and I were burned, Kittery stepped up and resolved in the most responsible, ethical and cordial way possible. I'm in CA, so not sure if or when I'll ever have the chance to visit your store in person, but I will surely check out your online store for future purchases. read more

Oh my god SO excellent! To be honest, I never went in here before because I just assumed it was touristy schlock. But it's not at all! It's like REI had a baby with a hunting lodge and that baby was adopted by a bear. If you catch my drift. In one place, you can get everything you need for an awesome weekend. Fudge? Check. Poofy down jacket? Check check. Fur-lined moccasins? Yup, got those too. Shotgun? Sure, as long as you buy it before 8pm when they stop processing applications. This place is seriously fun to look around. And it really is a trading post. People come in to trade their guns, and they probably trade other things but I have an impatient mom and we didn't get to spend hours trolling around the place. Next time :) read more

After many years of shopping there for shoes and clothing and occasional souvenir (no complains!) I finally used the second floor of this place: firearm's department. Along with great selection and reasonable prices they have a very knowledgeable staff. On two separate occasions I was served with courtesy, attention to detail and real educational value. Plus, they have a way to sell guns to NH residents so you don't have to pay ME sales tax and don't need a transfer FFL. So now I have even more reasons to cross the border to visit KTP. I have been a regular customer of KTP for the last four years. Over this time, I have seen consistently poor customer service by all but three gentlemen in the gun room. Scott, Jessie and Dana all deserve to be praised for their excellent service despite working in an environment where it is customary to treat clients with disdain. I have continued to shop here because they are convenient to the seacoast, the selection of outdoor clothing and fishing tackle is very good and the staff in the downstairs fishing area as well as the clothing floor have been atttentive and helpful. However, there is no reason for me to shop here anymore personally. Since KTP has the highest prices in the business, I will get my fishing and clothing items online where they are tax-free. And since I will never step foot into the gun room at KTP again, I will happily make the drive to Shooter's Outpost in Hooksett, NH where I can expect good service and lower prices. read more

I'm not sure how anyone could hate on the Trading Post. As the BF says, this is where we're heading when the zombie apocalypse hits because it has everything. Guns and ammo? Check. Winterwear? Check. Outdoor equipment? Check. Fudge and Stonewall Kitchen dips? Check and check. Whether we need any supplies or I just really want some moose droppings candy, we always stop here once we get into Maine. While regular prices are kind of high, they often have good stuff on sale; for instance, I got a nice winter coat for $25, a steal, and I bought my parents a woven rug for $15. If it's a nice day and you're outlet shopping, KTP is also a great place to park and walk to the stores because each shopping center is easily within walking distance. That way you don't have to drive on Route 1 any more than necessary. Just make sure to designate a meeting place if you go with a first-time visitor because the newbie will almost certainly get lost. Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to their store in 2019. Ordered a few follow up items online after our vacation. Ordered a pair of work boots last week. When they showed up they were not as advertised. Not much I can do about it. The store location won't deal with online purchases and the online support only works 9 to 4. After that .... forget it. Since I leave for work before 9 and get home after 4 I guess I have to deal with it on my employers time or forget the $130.00 I spent with them. Enjoy it. It's the last money you'll get from me. While driving through Kittery, Maine, we stopped by the outlets, we were baffled when we realized the outlet is not in one place..but down the road on BOTH sides. So we chose a couple of places we wanted to go..and then we went to KTP to go to Northface... In the parking lot, the bf was like..so where's the stores?!?! I said it must be inside that big building...so we parked and went right in. I thought i was in the wrong place. Ugh, just another store, we must have miss the north face store on the other side...but we continued to browse..and then he came up with the idea they must just sell the brands within this store. YEP. But this store isn't just any store...it was HUGE....i didn't realize the vastness until I had to search for the exit to the bathroom...We spent an hour in the store and that DID NOT cover even 1/4 of it..we decided we HAVE to go back before we go camping. OH, the fresh fudge on the first floor is DELICIOUS...We got the peanut butter one..with reeses...mmmmmm $6 for two pieces! These were in containers though....apparently ones in containers are not in the display bin. Can't wait to go back to try other flavors. And we love the store because they have things from snowboarding, to water boarding (if that exist) and to biking...kayaking..you name it..they got it! read more

We stopped in today around noon time looking to purchase a small handgun and a few other things, we went to the gun area and found a couple guns that we were interested in but not one person acknowledged that we were there, we stood at the counter where two salesmen were.....still nothing, went over to another area where two other sales people spent chatting.....still nothing.....needless to say you have lost not only about a $1,000.00 sale but two life long customers. "ayup."), bows, and arrowheads including, i shit you not, an arrowhead called "unspeakable devastation." ktp has simply anything you might need to spend serious time outdoors in maine (or anywhere else for that matter) hiking, biking, camping, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, hunting, boating ... whatever, all at very competitive prices. if you have any questions, the extremely knowledgeable staff in every department is on hand to assist, make recommendations, and - at least in the archery section - let you try out the products. plan on a couple of hours to make your way through here. it's an outdoors wonderland, despite that fact that it is indoors. read more

There are few places where you can test out a dozen lawn/beach chairs, browse fishing rods strong enough to land a shark, sight rifle scopes at moose heads on the walls, handle two dozen crossbows, dress your kids up in winter cammo clothes for pictures, study trail maps for Yosemite trips, test hiking boots on an indoor incline, and try out camping cots. The great outdoors on the inside! The Kittery Trading Post has everything for the outdoors. This place is so huge I need to bust out my iPhone GPS just to find my way around this place. Don't worry they serve food here just in case you need a break during your shopping expedition. You don't need a catalog here since everything is on display. The store besides being very large is actually well laid out for its scale. There is some very interesting carved wood statues both inside and outside. I think I saw some real eagles nested on the second floor. The prices were strictly retail so you would have to search for a deal or three but they can be had here. read more

I've been coming here since I was a kid and I still find the place impressive and big. Went in recently on a trip back from Portland. Fun selection of outdoorsy things, clothes, Maine specific items. The prices are a bit high but they have a lot of specialized items that you'd have a hard time finding elsewhere. I ended up getting a large sachet pillow that I totally did not need until I picked it up and smelled it and then it was a must purchase. If you're looking for a nice gift to take home from Maine, they have a huge selection of items that aren't too expensive. Boots and clothes are pricier. Sometimes in the summer they have a clothing tent set up and you can get some good buys. Plenty of parking and the bathrooms are immaculate so that's a bonus. read more

OK, so when you are up in Kittery you HAVE to visit the trading post... I guess that I have lost that lovin feelin... since it is not the KTP that I knew many years ago. Change happens and I guess it is still a good place to visit. But for me and my fried clam addled mind, it was just too overwhelming. The store certainly had EVERYTHING one could want or need to recreate outdoors. The staff was friendly but not overbearing... Decent selection of products. I personally just hate paying tax on clothing, but I guess you cant escape that in Maine. It was kind of interesting to go upstairs to the hunting area and see lots of folks using their cell phones to check/compare ammunition prices with what they had available wherever they were from. Not being a gun owner, not sure I would buy a gun from a place like this since I think I would prefer more individualized attention, but then I guess if you know what you want and the price is right... you go for the gusto. Travel tips..... 1. The parking lot is huge, easy to park and walk to outlets nearby 2. Bathrooms are clean and convenient 3. Snack bar is reasonably priced. 4. What a fun lil' (HUGE) store with very friendly employees. They have a great selection of North Face jackets, guns n'ammo, shoes, food, etc. Their fudge is excellent and they'll give you a sample of whatever flavor you want...when we were there this past weekend the girl gave such big samples I would have felt guilty if I didn't buy any fudge (and oh yes, I did buy three delicious blocks). Well worth your time to stop by if you're in the area. They also have a tent outside the store with "all sales final" merchandise. It's a huge place and seems to have everything you need. we got a few things - mainly squid jigs and some jerky - alligator, kangaroo and buffalo i believe. haven't had a chance to taste it yet but can't wait to try them. Again, the place is huge. i thought it might be cheaper than most places considering its by the outlets but they weren't at all.
