My Mom grew up in Kittery, so I've been coming here since I was a little kid. I'd save up my allowance to buy moccasins, and bows and arrows, and other kid delights. I still have the Tom Tom drum that my Grampie bought for me. I look forward to visiting here, as much as I did when I was little. Back then, it was easier to get to, before the Outlet malls sprang up on RT 1. I get a bunch of outdoor clothing here. They have a 100% satisfaction guarantee on their goods, which is great. Though I've not had to use it, yet! Prices, well, are good, but not a steal. I'll go to Reny's first (in Wells, is the closest), as they sell things like Carhardt's for cheaper. Cheap girl seeks nice looking boots both waterproof and warm. Not those wellies and not hiking boots and definitely not $100. Who remembers how I decided that Kittery Trading Post might have what I was looking for... it's kind of random, they sell clothes for moms and motorcycle moms, and... just walking through there is a little overwhelming. Nevertheless, you called my name. Their shoe selection is pretty minimal and probably consists mainly of last year's (or last decade's) styles, but the prices are good. My eyes were immediately drawn to the pile of shoe boxes screaming MERRILL and a variety of boot styles sat proudly atop. I found a perfect pair of the boot I was looking for for $99. Thinsulate lined, 'waterproof' was etched into the boot, and they did the trick. It ended up being one of the rainiest winters ever and I never regretted buying these ever. But now it's been a little over a year and these are my ONLY waterproof kickers... Sadly the soles are wearing thin and traction is almost non-existent. This place is enormous!! It has everything you could possibly want and more. I went in to get a dry bag for my canoe trip and was pleasantly surprised with all the amazing camping gear they had! They have tons of clothes, fishing gear and pretty much everything you could imagine! AND...it was 15.00 cheaper than the "other" sporting store I went to that day! I was psyched! Better yet, it was even bigger and better quality! I used the bag two weeks ago and it was the best quality ever! I love this place! I can't wait to go back...and it's located near all the outlets to boot!! read more

Do you have a kid that you'd like to traumatize with a life-sized taxidermied moose? Kittery Trading Post is the place for you! It's a little less dead animal-tastic than is Cabela's, but the moose definitely has something going for it. One minor complaint: there's not really any clear place to return your shopping cart. I grabbed one primarily for the purpose of giving my kid a place to sit while we shopped, but given the range of their merchandise, you'd think that more people would make purchases of assorted weights and sizes such that a shopping cart would be prudent. I am not an outdoorsy person, for the most part. I'm also not much of a shopper. And to top that off, money's a little tight in my world right now. Despite all three of these factors, I managed to spend a little over $200 at Kittery Trading Post when I hadn't exactly intended to do so, on things that I have subsequently found useful or have given as gifts. I can't say that it's necessarily a ringing endorsement, but I suppose it is evidence that Kittery Trading Post really does have something for everyone. read more

This review is for my rifle trade in and purchase of a new rifle. When selling something expensive you want to make sure you aren't getting ripped off and you are getting a decent price. Especially when it's something you spent a lot of time with. I was selling my Savage .308 rifle that I put some work into including a new stock. The guy I talked to (I am sorry I don't remember your name) was by far the nicest gun shop salesman I have ever talked to. Unfortunatly for some reason it's very hard to find a nice gun shop salesperson. For some reason they are all rude and short with customers for the most part. He asked what I wanted to get and got me as close to it as possible. He got me well over what I was expecting for my old rifle and got me through the whole gun purchase as easily as possible. We have been a customer of L.L.Bean for over 25 years, we only had one problem with our son's backpack and they resolved it immediately. My husband's LL Bean boots where bought and the robber was all cracking and he was using duct tape as for Mayan they were in perfect condition. I reached out to L.L.Bean because I didn't have the receipt for his boots for help on how to resolve this problem seems how we spend a lot of money on quality. They actually apologized and said that they could not help us. We have bought snow pants wicked good slippers mini backpacks through the years and snow boots. And after 25 years of buying from them in Kittery Maine they actually turned us down and it said they couldn't help us. She was very disappointed I wasn't expecting a free pair but I was expecting maybe a discount. So we're going to return them anyways and then we will find another high-quality store and purchase from them from now on read more

The Kittery Trading Post is about the only reason to stop along that abysmal stretch of Route 1 known mostly for tourist-oriented clam shacks and outlet strip malls. If it's outdoorsy-type stuff you hanker for, however, and don't feel like driving all the way to Freeport for LL Bean, the Kittery Trading Post is the place to go. There you'll find everything from winter coats, long underwear and work boots to hunting and fishing equipment, camping gear, rubber rafts, kayaks, bicycles and skis to loads of syrupy (maple, of course) Vacationland kitsch. When I'm driving north, I usually stop off to go to the men's room, pick up a hot dog at the stand in the parking lot, and see what's on sale. The last time I was there, I ended up with five pairs of boot socks and a light nylon rain jacket, all deeply discounted, but I really wished I was the kind of person who needed a duck decoy and a pair of hip waders. Boy was I wrong about this store. With a name like Trading Post I thought it was some gaudy store selling Maine memorabilia and trinket souvenirs. It's not. It's a huge mega store that sells tons of outdoorsy equipment and clothing. As a diehard outdoor enthusiast myself I could spend hours in this store. It's like an L L Bean store but with name brands. It sells everything from expensive high end brands like Patagonia, North Face, Marmot, Ibex, Mammut, Burton, Helly/Hansen to more reasonably priced brands like Columbia and Carhartt. Plus, they sell lots of outdoor recreational equipment such as bikes, kayaks, skis, tents, and backpacks. Something for everybody. Something for every season! The store's location is very strategic. It's located in the border town of Kittery which is the state's gateway town for I-95 drivers. So weekend warriors heading upstate can pick up their survival gear essentials before embarking on their Maine adventure... errr I mean vacation. Maine is truly the nation's vacationland. I hate writing a 2 star since i've been shopping there since I was a kid. In August of this year a fat bearded guy, (name rhymes with Bro) in the gun department eagerly blew me off. He couldn't be bothered to answer a question about a rifle, stormed off and refused to look at me when I dared ask. I sent my review to KTP but since they ignored it, i'll assume Bro's attitude and lost sales are A-okay with management! Similar negative reviews reinforce my gun experience there. I've spent untold dollars at KTP going on 30 years but i'll never set foot in there again. The other departments at KTP are second to none and I have nothing but great things to say about them. I've been going for a long time, I love the selection! Prices can be up there but if it's what I love then great! Today though both items were mismarked and I was given such a hassle just to get the price they advertised. Very frustrating! It's not like it was a huge difference or inexpensive items even. When I pay a higher price I expect better service. Even after holding me up for over 20 minutes I was only given the price break on one of the two mismarked items. I give this store 2 stars being that it's fun to walk thru and look around but that's about it . The staff are most lacking in knowledge of pretty much everything they sell outside of the gun department . I went there looking for high end binoculars which are in the 3 to 4K range and the salesman was clueless about anything to do with them . He basically showed them to me and asked if I'm buying them. He couldn't answer one simple question. Same goes for the camping dept. In addition everything is marked up to the point where you can find all the stuff on Amazon about 25% cheaper Again to me it's just a place to look around I've never bought anything more than a sweatshirt and some beef jerky there . Buyer beware . I think the tourists and people from Canada like this place the most. read more

Overrated clothes. Bought socks here before. But every year the price goes up. First time you wear it kept you warm. But you do have to wash it. Once you do it shrinks dramatically. If it bought a large it became a small after you wash it. What a waste money to buy it. read more

Many travelers have pets these days. Even In a fully enclosed carrier bag - they expect me to leave my dog in the car. No outside kennels provided. Today at 51, it is too warm in the car for a pet. The boyfriend and I drove an hour and 1/2 to get to this place because everyone said this is the place to go for archery. I was afraid it would be mostly tailored for hunting, but they have more than enough for target practice. It was very busy on a Sunday evening just an hour before closing. We headed right upstairs where Joe helped us out. He was incredibly patient and extremely knowledgeable about everything we needed to know (and mind you, we knew absolutely nothing about archery). He took the time to measure both of us for draw length, made sure we were comfortable with the draw weight of multiple bows, and let us fire off a few arrows prior to purchase. We even chatted about what we saw on the Olympics and he knew the names of some of the competitors. It's very evident he enjoys his work and we were very happy he was there to help us. I even asked some of the employees at the checkout line where a good place to get dinner and multiple people (even those who were not directly helping me in line) chimed in and gave great suggestions. We ended up having a wonderful dinner very close by. I have no problem driving back this great distance for all our archery needs. read more

The website needs work and management needs to be recalibrated on the sales floor. Update the hours on the website to include the hours of FIREARM SALES since apparently they stop an hour before the store closes. Today: Bought a rifle on their website earlier, called to make sure it was actually there before i wasted the 45 minute drive (that was another disappointing KTP story 2 years ago). Showed up at 6:25 and was told by a snarky manager that firearm sales stop an hour before the store closes. Told me to come back another time before 6. The firearm sales clerk i called to make sure it was actually there never mentioned that the firearm sales would end in 15 more minutes. How the hell would I have known that? I even TOLD the guy I was calling ahead so I didn't waste my time driving over from Sanford for nothing (like that other time). Wasted an hour and a half of my life driving to and from a store that honestly irritates me more and more every time I go. And the 'manager' not having a solution? No apology? Not even a 'Sorry for the misunderstanding'? 'Sorry we don't have the technology to put the firearm sale hours next to our store hours on the website'? 'Sorry the Firearms Sales Specialist you talked to on the phone neglected to mention we stop selling firearms in 15 minutes even though you told him you're driving up from 45 minutes away'? SO glad I called to cancel the order on the ride back home. I have spent literal THOUSANDS of dollars at that store over the years. Not only did they lose a sale, they lost a customer. I'm finally done. Save yourself the hassle, buy from local small shops, even if you have to order it online and have it transferred by them. Selection is good and my husband and son enjoyed walking around. Picked up some hunting gear for the upcoming season. Three stars is because they're not pet friendly! Well, they offer outdoor kennels you can leave your let in. Not ideal in the summer. I just find this highly annoying since we were traveling through and wanted to stop and shop there. read more

For over 17 years I have been a loyal customer of KTP and have greatly appreciated their professional staff and the high quality of their products. Since I am not a hunter, I was recently made aware of the fact that they also sell assault-style weapons. I did our country needs to prohibit the sale of such weapons to civilians, and have asked KTP to voluntarily stop selling those weapons. Management has refused to reply to any of my 3 messages and phone calls. Unlike Walmart and Dick's Sporting Goods who have taken the step to cease the sale of such weapons, KTP is even refusing to explain their position. Until they respond to our communities concerns I'll no longer shop their. read more

I used to shop at KTP a lot, and liked their products, until I found out that they sell assault guns. At this point, they will not have an open discussion to explain their reasons for continuing to sell these guns, although we have such a gun violence problem in the US. We live in a small town here in Kittery and someone could easily buy an assault gun at KTP and go on a rampage and kill many people here or somewhere else. Would KTP feel responsible? Are they only out to make money? I will not shop here again until I hear from them and can understand their point of view. read more

Overpriced. Maybe not REI overpriced but they can't really match their competitors. One benefit they did have but ruined completely was there selection of firearms, except they were ridiculously overpriced foe the condition they were in. You can find similar weapons at even your local gun shop for better prices. Also horrible customer service and business practices. read more

One word to describe the staff "Rude!" I was up in Maine visiting my friends place on a lake last summer I brought some rifles to shoot but I was running low on 7.63x39 so we stopped in because it was right off the highway I asked the clerk behind the gun counter how much for the ammo I was looking for he pulled out a box and said "$20" I thought that was really high because usually its cheap ammo I asked how many rounds per box he replied 20 rounds . I was shocked and asked to see the box thinking they were special rounds he looked me up and down and said grudgingly "no" I then said they are usually $5-$11 per box in Mass he then leaned over the counter and said to me " go back to Massachusetts then" threw the box back on the shelf and walked away. I've heard this from many friends when I shared this experience their advice was just to stay away which I intend on doing. read more

One of the sales workers, who had many years of experience--both in selling skis and also skiing was dishonest. I will never step foot there again and would not recommend KTP to anybody. I told the sales person that I wanted skis, which were for intermediate--into advanced. I also had very specifically stated that I did not want entry-level / beginner skis. I was very clear about this. Despite this, the sales person "highly recommended" and sold me beginner skis. I even asked--after he kept recommending them to me, "these are not beginner, are they?" ...to which he said, [oh, no...these are not entry-level / beginner skis]. So, I went by his strong recommendation--only to find out, when I got home and looked them up on line, that they were--in fact--totally beginner skis. I ended up having to call re rep for the ski company to find satisfaction. NOT RECOMMENDED! read more
