As a self confessed foodie, I am always in search of my next great dining experience - and ready to rock and roll back to restaurants that are tried and true. This was my first visit to Kitchen Savages. I had tried walking in without a reservation once before on a Saturday evening, and there were no seats available. So my first recommendation would definitely be to make sure you make/have a reservation because they do get busy (understandably so)!! Overall our brunch experience was good! I started off with the Mimosa Sampler for my drink order; I wanted to try the different flavours that were on offer. These were nice, but I'd hoped the presentation would have been a little better and the mimosas not as heavy with the juices. The food was great! Super tasty and packed with flavour. My husband had the Peach Cobbler French Toast and I ordered the 'Create-Your-Own' pasta. I requested it with salmon, shrimp and spinach, but it only came with the shrimp and spinach. Such a shame, because I can imagine the salmon would have made the dish EVEN better. When the bill came, it had the salmon (which I never got) listed on it - after pointing this out, the server checked with the kitchen, and kindly removed it from the bill. I work in the area and decided to try this place for lunch. The inside is small and intimate so if you have a big party I recommend making a reservation. The bar area has about seating for 6 people, again, not a big inside space. However, the decor is nice with a nice ambiance. The bartender who took my order was very inviting, friendly, and engaging, based on him alone, I am coming back. I just loved the vibes he gave off. Now to the food. I ordered the burger with fries. I'm always a little skeptical when a place is empty especially a newer establishment so we ordered with our antennas up! The decor is cute-ish, the color of the decor was nice but they could stand to steam or iron the tablecloths and the seats could be wiped down better. The catfish nuggets (6) were the size of the tip of my thumb and smaller and cost $6 (so approximately $1 ea.) I was given a condiment bowl of tarter sauce however for these nuggets... They should have spooned a half a spoonful onto the plate itself. The plate of crab fries was an excessively larger portion than the catfish nuggets which was comical, and the amount of crab on the fries was just sad. I will not be returning and would not recommend dining here. I disliked the back and forth that broke out between who I assume is the owner or maybe the manager and our waitress; lower your voice and take it to the back of the house - not professional. The price point of the restaurant was high but due to the lack of knowledge of HH menu items, lack of knowledge of ingredients in drinks they offer and the staff kerfuffle it was all too much. On a Friday night around 6:15 p.m., my friend and I walked in without reservations and got one of the last available tables. With blue table clothes, gold-colored silverware and friendly service, they set the stage for a good evening. Open every day, they offer happy hour from 4-7 p.m. with $6 nachos, wings, crab French fries and $2 off their signature cocktails. So I've been following Kitchen Savages since their days on South Capitol Street which was just a carry out location. I was eager to see their sit down location. I didn't see a parking lot nearby but there is street parking. It's a nice cozy small location but definitely better than before. When you walk in you're immediately greeted by the hostess. There is bar seating directly behind the hostess with approximately 8-10 chairs. They also have approximately 16 tables with each being for 2 that can be grouped together. Now onto the food. We were seated and ordered the following, Ultimate Seafood Pasta with a side of salmon and the Honey salmon with a side of crabmeat. While it took a while for the food to come, the bar manager noticed and nicely provided us soft drinks on the house. The owner who is also the Chef brought out meals to the table. Everything is nicely prepared and well seasoned. The food is fresh. The meal was delicious. I do wish the shrimp came with the head off but the food was still good non the less. I was really excited to visit last night because of the great reviews I'd heard about the food and drinks. But, here are my thoughts. 1. Ambiance was nice! Loved the choice of decor, but I don't quite think the music matched the environment. They played some pop & rnb hits, but I just don't think it matched the environment. 2. Service was below par. The guy (supposed cousin of the owner) introduced himself as the bartender "but I guess I'm supposed to be your server". This was the introduction after waiting 15min for him to bring a menu and water. He seemed very reluctant to assist us. My girlfriends had to repeat themselves several times when giving their food and drink orders. The guy just seemed out of it. Then after taking the orders he just stood by our table fiddling with the electronic order taker. He wasn't talking to us. He wasn't assisting us. He was just standing there. This was awkward and uncomfortable for us as the purpose of the dinner was to have a private conversation with my girls regarding upcoming life changes. 3. Food was yummy! The lamb lollipops: flavor was delicious but came out raw! I requested a medium cook but the meat literally felt and looked like they cooked it on medium heat for 2min each side. When I told the guy about my food, the waiter didn't seem apologetic or considerate. He just took the food and said they'd bring me out new ones. When they brought out new ones, those were medium well. I didn't make a fuss about it because I didn't want to make it a big deal. At the end of the night, our waiter came to inform us that he was just going to eat the food. Like he was appreciative that I didn't want the rare lollipops, The salmon, mash, and greens were delicious. Greens were disproportionate though (in my opinion). Mac n cheese was cheesy but taste like it didn't have any salt. 4. Closing out. Eager to leave at this point, the waiter came around to collect payment. I was not pleased with the fact that he did not inform us, prior to the bill, that there was an 18% gratuity already added. If I'm being completely honest, he barely deserved 15%. We were steadily waiting for him to come back (drink refill, incorrect food, etc). Additionally, the waiter came back out like he had an issue. Addressing us with his hand in his shirt (reaching in between the buttons) he confronts us thinking someone at our table reported the food cold. We didn't. He didn't approach us like he wanted to resolve a concern. His approach was like he was displeased that someone said the food was cold. Again, we never said that. So, I came here on a Saturday night around 7:30 on a date night with my love. We were able to find street parking in front of the restaurant which was nice. We were running a few minutes late and when I called to let the restaurant know, they advised that after 10 minutes, the reservation will be released- just a heads up for everyone if you're ever running late. I believe they were short staffed the night we came so service was a little inconsistent. We were greeted and sat by what I presumed to be one of the managers and then our orders were taken by someone from the kitchen, maybe one of the chefs- I really don't know. Anyway, I don't eat meat so I was offered the two vegan options they had- Cajun pasta or steak and cheese. I asked what was included with the steak and cheese and the chef server guy looked at me like it was a dumb question lol. As for my order, I ended up getting the Cajun pasta with spinach and peppers- which they charged $2.00 each for in addition to the pasta itself, so $22 roughly for the pasta, with just sauce and those two veggies. The chef waiter said to me that he didn't know how to put in my order at first because he wasn't used to anyone ordering vegan from here. Not the most welcoming or attentive. Next page. The Cajun sauce was okay, great consistency but needed some salt/pepper to doctor up. I also ordered some brussel sprouts on the side- those were good. My love ordered the jerk lamb chops and enjoyed that. They charge an automatic 18% gratuity, so tab came to a total of about $84 for pasta, brussel sprouts, and the lamb chops- a bit pricey/overpriced in my personal opinion, but it was alright overall. We did have to ask for water a few times, but I'll blame that on the understaffing that evening. I'm not sure if I would return again for dinner due to the limited vegan options with the price point it seems, but we enjoyed our little experience as best we could and were happy to support a black owned business. I'm coming back to update this review and highlight a few important points. The food at Kitchen Savages was great during my first two visits. Unfortunately, my last three visits were disappointing, especially the most recent one, which prompted me to write this review. After posting my initial review, I received a call from Andre, the maître d'. I expected a possible resolution or acknowledgment of the issue, but instead, I was met with defensiveness. Andre debated my experience, stating that if the food was unsatisfactory, I shouldn't have continued to come. He also claimed that my concerns were just personal preference, noting that no other patrons had complained about the overly sweet greens or the mac and cheese. The call ended with him abruptly disconnecting the line. I called back, only to be told I'd receive a follow-up from management after the holiday. It's now been a week with no follow-up or resolution. At the end of the day, what many businesses forget is that people will always remember how you made them feel. My girlfriend treated me to lunch here yesterday for my birthday. We enjoyed the food, the ambience, the artwork, and the vibe. However, the service we received was just okay. That was surprising given that we were the only two people in the restaurant for a majority of our visit. We shared the seafood deviled eggs and they were delicious! I had the Cajun pasta topped with lobster and my friend had the lamb chops with spinach and baked mac & cheese. We enjoyed our food, although the pasta was a little on the salty side. For dessert we split the banana pudding cheesecake which had a nice rich flavor. It's not the best place to celebrate a milestone as I did not receive happy birthday writing on my dessert plate, a candle, or so much as a happy birthday from the staff; although my friend mentioned it was my birthday several times. It's a cozy establishment, best for a small gathering and they don't take reservations. Street parking is rather difficult in that area, however, there is a garage around the corner from the restaurant. read more

So we stopped by this spot to support a black owned business and grab a quick bite of some good food. I initially wasn't thinking about leaving a review but knew I had to after the first bite. The ambiance was adorable.. very cute and modern decor. Great music. Excellent service.. and the FOOD... the food was *chef's kiss* The jerk lamb chops were cooked perfectly and the flavor was amazing. Same for the Jerk Shrimp Pasta.. we can't wait to come back and try more menu items. The only thing to note is the interior seating is very limited so I wouldn't recommend going during peak hours without a reservation. read more

Kitchen savage is amazing hitting gym located in Anacosta that Istanbul balls walking in the neighborhood. Amazing craft cocktails and I really enjoyed the Saint Elizabeth that was a different take with Saint Jermaine and cucumber and mix as well as the amazing cracked egg rolls and for brunch. We had the seafood grits And the strawberry Hennessy French toast, as well as a peach cobbler business. The service was top-notch. My server was amazing. The manager on duty was amazing and everyone was attentive. We didn't have to ask with anything and I would definitely recommend this place five out of five. read more
