I live in the neighborhood and have walked past this place many times. I finally decided to give it a try because, looking at the menu online, I saw that it had options for my three boys (ages 6, 8 and 14) - mac n cheese, hot dogs, burgers and milkshakes. But, it turned out to be such a disappointment.
First, the service was slow, even though there seemed to be quite a few people working and they weren't terribly busy. The first major sign of trouble was when my drink - a bloody Mary - arrived. On first sip, it was warm - not refreshing - even though it had ice in it. I mixed it around and realized it tasted like straight tomato juice, not even a hint of vodka in it. Now, I wasn't looking for a strong drink (I was with my kids, afterall) but it was warm out and I did want a refreshing bloody Mary. When I asked what was in it, the waiter said only tomato juice and vodka. Ok - I wasn't going to argue about how little vodka was in it, but the drink had none of the classic ingredients: lime, celery, olives, worchestshire sauce, tabasco, pepper - nothing. It was the worst bloody Mary ever. The waiter said that was just how they made it. I asked to instead change it for a beer, which led the bartender to offer to remake the drink, which they did, adding some olives and pepper, but it was still pretty awful.
As for the food, my teenager said his burger was fine, but the rest of us were disappointed. The mac n cheese was covered with a layer of dried parmesan, bread crumbs and herbs that seemed to have been dumped on top without much thought as to whether it really belonged there; my middle son refused to eat the hot dog, so my teenager asked for it (since he wasn't filled by the burger) and then couldn't decide what type of meat it actually was. I opted for the crab cake sandwhich, which had very little crab cake in it. The most flavorful thing about it was the arugula on it. I ate it because I was hungry, but did not enjoy it at all.
Overall, I was left wondering if any of the cooks actually taste the food they make, or if they even know what they are attempting to create. I wish we had just walked a bit farther over to the American Legion, which doesn't have the outside-seating option, but at least does well on creating decent-tasting food and drinks.
Kitchen 6 has a great location, which must be what keeps people coming, but I can't recommend going there for anything more than a drink - but opt for a beer, not a bloody Mary. read more
