Well, this review is for the disc golf course here. The surrounding park and sports complex offer tremendous "get outside" opportunities for sure. Indoor soccer, field hockey, you name it. And this park is centrally located and easily accessed from highway 15. Nice. The disc golf course here is a great walk, with full exposure for the first few holes. In the summer prepare with sunscreen and lots of water. I pack a nice 32 ounce Nalgene in my disc bag, which lasts a full 18. The topography of this course is relatively flat, with a few hidden gems here and there. The mid nine are a bit shaded, and the grass is a nice break from the dirt skips of the first few holes. I especially enjoy the nice practice tees here, with plenty of grass for mid range and even driver practice. There are two baskets for practice with plenty of angles to go from. Park close, or, use the shaded parking across the lot near the pro shop. This is a really nice disc golf course and free to play. The nearby SDSF Pro Shop is well stocked and offers a lost/found disc program that is really nice. Turn in a found disc and collect a dollar, and reciprocally you pay a dollar to recover a disc. Matt the owner even called me about one of my found discs. Nice bonus for this fine park. read more

This park is HUGE! I am rating the indoor soccer area because my boyfriend plays there often. This place is A-OK. The place is pretty clean for the amount of people who are there. There is a cute concession stand that sells food and drinks for a decent price. I have noticed that people tend to have their birthday parties there so it gets a little crowded on the weekends. Overall, good place (people seem to enjoy this venue, too)! read more

This review is for their running trails we got to experience during a 5k. The trails were really nice especially for being near a freeway and major mall. The trails took you out on paths that felt like you were plucked out of the city and put it fields and woodsy areas. The trails are made up of mostly gravel and dirt with a little bit of sidewalk and asphalt! The hills are 75% flat with a couple huge hills. The trails can also become a little run down after rain living water trails. Overall a gorgeous ambiance for a nice run! read more

The longer I live in Escondido, the more I fall in love with this place. I feel like I live in a very awkward romantic comedy; I moved here because it was all I could afford, but as time passes I become more enamored by it. Maybe it's Stockholm Syndrome? If it is, Kit Carson Park is like that cool glass of water that's offered by your captors that makes you think "This place really isn't that bad..." Let me start by saying, this place is B I G. This is probably the largest park I've ever been to (with the exception, obviously, of state parks, etc. Nit-picker.). There are a number of baseball fields here, which was all I knew about it before last week. Our photographer had suggested taking photos there for my littlun's first birthday, and my wife reluctantly agreed to give it a shot. We stopped by earlier in the day to look for some swings and were delighted to find a set next to a cute, clean little playground by the entrance to the park. We marveled at how much grass and space was available in the immediate vicinity, but little did we know... We came back later in the day for the the photo shoot, and our guy asked us to meet him in the "Queen Califia" area. We came in the same entrance as before, and though maybe it was something we had just missed earlier. After cruising for close to a mile through the streets (in the park!), we finally found our destination, a girl scouts center, a disc golf course, some beautiful photo opportunities and a large mosaic art sculpture that you can run around and play in. It was the perfect place for taking those photos to capture the wee one's first birthday. Heck, I might even buy a few frisbees and pick up disc golf; it looked like fun! read more

Kit Carson Park is a very, very big park. There's something here for everyone to enjoy. I enjoy the various walking trails/paths and picnic/park area. There's plenty of shade and plenty of parking. I'm pretty impressed with Kit Carson park all around. It continually gets upgraded and it has a lot of space with pretty good facilities. I've been coming to the park since I was a little kid, and I've used it for both its baseball and soccer facilities. I used to feed ducks at the Pond (now known as "Eagle Scout Lake"), I built my Eagle project there, and I've been frisbee golfing my fair share of times. I've camped at the amphitheater for scouting events, I've used the park for my weekly runs, and I've helped repair the skate park ramps. This place has it all! There is plenty of parking, plenty of shade, and plenty of attractions. The Queen Califia's Magical Circle seems to always be a work in progress (under construction/repair, etc), but it's still pretty cool. There's a small orange orchard nearby, and streams that run through a couple areas of the park. It's super convenient to get to, but still plenty of space for everything to go on! read more

Pro: Pretty close to the freeway and North County Fair. Lots of parking. Playground, bathroom, and frisbee golf. Con: frisbee golf path is poorly designed to go into the picnic greens. First - A huge chunk of dead branches/leaves came down from 3 stories high on the north end of the park. Almost crushed a bunch of kids playing under the trees. You have been warned. What a huge park, it took be about 5 minutes to location the right picnic area (there are 4 of them). After receiving some warning about parking nazi roaming the area, I proceeded to the picnic area on top of a small hill. People were already cooking on the red brick bbq grill on the hill, there were also two picnic tables next to the grill, under a huge tree. I have to say this place is pretty good for the kids to run around with adult supervision from the hill. Good for a hot days with some wind, the adults can just sit back under the shade and watch the kids rolling around below. But seriously, the dead branch thing, that was not cool. If one of my kids were under that, I would be pissed. I mean, it's guaranteed death, but to be killed by fallen branch? The city managers needs to keep the landscaping up on clearing dead branches - the grass is cut, the bushes are low... just missing the little thing like children crushing dead wood. read more

Just moved to the area a couple months ago & this was our first visit to the park. Glad we went! Spend hours with dog walking the dirt trails & paved walk ways. Everyone we encountered was friendly. There's lots of tables for picnics & bbqs. Lots of parking, lots of shady areas to lay down a blanket & just relax. Tennis court, frisbee golf, multiple fields, sports center. Kit Carson is a pretty big park, I was pleasantly surprised. The restrooms were actually in decent condition, which was a relief. Only Wish they had an off-leash area for dogs, but we thoroughly enjoyed walking around. Will definitely be returning. read more

This is a huge park. It has everything that you want. I thought it was a school as I drove by since it was close to San Pasqual. There are a lot of sporting events happening at the park. I would advice people who are not going there for games to not park near the baseball field that parking lot is packed. Go to the other one with the Frisbee golf. There's a lot of things to do at this park, and it seems like they are adding more to it. I went on their hiking trails while i was there, it was pretty small. Not much to do nor to look at while hiking, was a little disappointed in it. It's nice to run around the park if you are into running. I could not check out Queen Califia's Magical Circle Garden because it was close for repairs. That was one of my reason for going to the park. There's nothing that interest me much in this park other than the amount of things that are available and many activities for everyone to enjoy. Good place to kill some time if you have nothing better to do. read more

Meh. We came. We saw. We left underwhelmed. Sundays are not a good day to go here. Super busy and the lake is being drained. So as you can imagine there is a certain smell in the air. Half the place is closed due to vandalism and the other half is overrun by strange smelling food from all the parties being hosted here. There are no clear signs so finding the actual arboretum was a bust. I wasn't a happy camper. Which explains why the check in after this was for frozen yogurt. Lol. I just didn't get it. But hey, I'll try until I find out what everyone is raving about. Then I'll eat some humble pie and update this review. Until then, I am left feeling disappointed. Maybe we will go when it's less busy and smelly. Maybe that'll help. Since moving to the US, I have been so impressed by the awesome parks, but this one left me cold. read more

This is a big park with lots of faciliites. I used to d to play softball here when I was young, ahh, fond memories. Now I just go walking in the park. So I am only commenting on the walking path aspects of it....other people please cover the tennis courts, soccer fields, amphitheatre, skate park, etc. I walk my dog here in the mornings. It's pleasant. Lots of paved sidewalk and trails to take her on. Looking at the website, I realized that it states that dogs are not allowed on the sidewalks. I use the sidewalks with the dog almost every day (along with about 100 other people), and I have never seen a sign that stated otherwise. With the stream and pond there, there have been way, way too many mosquitos around on the trails this summer, so I've been sticking to the sidewalks. It might be a good idea for them to drain that pond or some way ensure that the water keeps moving because the mosquitos are out in force and are a public health hazard. read more

Catching a show at the outdoor amphitheater is a great Summertime treat. Be sure you wear plenty of sunscreen because there isn't a lot of shade, and bring some type of bug repellent. The area can really attract some nasty biters. I wish I could elaborate on the park as a whole, but I've only really driven through it, and spent time watching community plays at the outdoor theater. read more

To my surprise, ​this park is huge and very pretty. There is a water pond, a nice picnic area, a nice hiking trail which will have to come back and explore more. A random sculpture throughout the park makes​ it very interesting. It suitable for the ​kid, pets, ​and many other functions​. There is also a disk golf course. My university professor told our class about the amazing sculpture garden here. It is well hidden and hard to find. You must turn right at a driveway leading to the north side of the park. Here there is a parking lot and a sign identifying it as Kit Carson Park. Walk down the dirt road (no vehicular access/authorized vehicles only) a little way and you will see it. But it is heavily fenced in and the biggest surprise was that it was closed! It is only open 10am-2pm on the second Saturday of the month, weather permitting. I had driven from San Diego on a Friday afternoon to take my elderly mother so I was disappointed. Not to mention the walk would have been too much for her. Perhaps cars are allowed to drop off handicapped visitors during open hours? read more

Nice park in Escondido that provides many activities for all ages. There are plenty of baseball fields for the youth along with playgrounds for the real young ones. The park also has a few roller rinks for hockey, a skate park, football field among other things. This park appears to be quite busy and you need to watch out for an occasional stray frisbee with their frisbee golf course. I know that this place can get quite hot because of it's inland location but there is plenty of shade to be had, I suppose you just have to look around for it. Because of the size, it can be a little difficult to find where you're trying to go but is nothing that isn't manageable. This place would a nice place to hang out and enjoy a cup of coffee or a cold drink because it provides a peaceful setting. read more

Great park for the whole crew! They got lots of sporting events and programs for the kids. We do the North County soccer and we attend weekly practices and games here at Kit Carson Park. They always have snacks available at their shack for a decent price Incase you get thirsty or need something small before you eat. Always well lit and well maintained. read more

I came here for disc golf. I am a beginner and I only have a few discs sean gecko r donated to me, so the first stop was the pro shop. The guy working there was super helpful and knowledgeable. He helped me pick out my first disc and I love it! This park is huge! The course is 18 holes and there are many challenging spots, so it is great for all levels. Only thing is the disc golf course goes right through the park, people walking their dogs, kids running around, picnics, bbqs....so im sort of afraid to hit someone. There is also an amazing interactive sculpture garden which kids love. read more

This is a really nice park for an outing with the kids! Went here for the first time today in search of the Magical Circle Garden. Turns out it wasn't open, which I assume was because it rained a little bit in the morning and it's closed on "rainy days". So the kids were disappointed that we could only look through the fence at it. But we still had a great time walking on the trails through the park, looking at ducks and turtles, picking up sticks and drawing in the dirt etc. It was just a really nice time. I highly recommend it to an afternoon at the movies. Get em outside! read more

Came here as a pit stop before heading home! It's cool and all. The sculptures are snazzy but you can look all of that up online. What they DONT tell you about it the mother fucking secret chinchilla colony they got running around! It's the best part and everyone deserves to see a herd of little bouncy animals bolting across some green park grass. read more

This park located in Escondido is pretty much the only reason why I visit Escondido. It is a fairly well maintained park and not too many crazies hang out there. It's huge and offers a variety of different areas for different activities. The queen's magic circle maze located towards the back is pretty cool and is great for kids to explore. read more

I like this park because it is large, convenient, generally has plenty of parking and is perfect for a wide variety of activities including hanging out with your kids, picnics, walking dogs, nature hikes, etc. The only thing that bugs me is the same thing that bugs me about a number of other local parks - people who do not clean up after their dogs! read more

Great park, one of the best I've been to. Plenty of stuff to do. The frisbee golf course has been a smash hit, and always has players. The tennis courts are well maintained and there are 4 lighted courts. There is Magic Circle Garden, which is some interesting modern art. Baseball fields, soccer fields, and a skate park. I'd definitely say me and me wife and 15 month old cutie enjoyed visiting this park. Lot's of places to explore and friendly people roaming about (many with their dogs)...Not a fan of all the gnats though, but definitely worth taking a friendly stroll with your loved ones. read more
