Plenty of parking and a great place to walk around the pond. Afterwards, make your way over to the shopping center just blocks away for lunch or dinner. Kit Carson is a fantastic free large public park that I cannot recommend enough. It is a wonderful place to take a walk, run, play, and explore. There are tons of people each morning taking walks and in turn is a very safe spot. You will likely need to come here several times if you want to explore everything. Plenty of walking trails, duck pond, outdoor theater, frisbee golf, tennis courts, playground, and so much more. Not usually in this part of town and this was a lovely find. Had a long drive back to home and wanted to stop for a moment in nature plus to get my dog tired. We came here mid morning when the sun was really about to come on strong but fortunately there's enough shaded areas to help keep him cool. The park is big. It's part dog park, part park for humans, part disco frisbee park, part trails, part recreational center. You can easily spend quite a while here. I spent a hour here but felt like there was so much more to discover. My favorite part was the little pond in the middle of one of the trails. It was calm and beautiful and full of drags and tadpoles. There's a good amount of forestry so you can escape the sun. And the walkways are pretty large so you can easily fit strollers, runners, dogs and more on it. If I'm back in this side of town I would definitely revisit here. Maybe even with some art supplies or a picnic basket as I saw a few other people doing in the grassy bits. read more

I really like Kit Carson now that they did a big refresh on the playground. The grass still has terrible drainage and there are horrible wet spots which is always a big problem here. The bathrooms need some help too, and soap would be a plus. The playground is newly renovated and has foam base and great climbing features. It's innovative and my son loved it. It's challenging but attainable for many ages (and brave little siblings). I wish there were a few extra benches for parents. Plenty of parking, there are bathrooms but the are sort of gross. Bring soap I guess. Grass is muddy so watch your kids through that area. read more

First time here . This park is HUGE ! They have baseball fields, I believe an indoor ice hockey arena , playgrounds, bathrooms, duck pond and walking trails . There are many different parking lots so if you choose the wrong one , you will be walking . The duck pond is the first parking lot , the playground is like the third or fourth lot . Super peaceful , great place to throw a football , frisbee etc. Be sure to bring some nuts , lettuce or seed to feed the ducks ! I highly recommend this park as a place to relax , get some exercise and enjoy nature . Disc Golf, a duck pond, parking, playgrounds, Queen Califia's Magical Circle, and more! A great place to walk, hang, or get active, plus it's right next to a mall. I haven't had to find a restroom here, but that could eventually lead to a lower rating. Aside from that, this park has all that I need. I mostly come here just to walk the trails, but Queen Califia's is a must, every now and again. Check out their hours because they're only open here and there. LOVE this place! My boys play baseball here in the spring and fall seasons. They love the skate park. We take the kids to the lake and feed the ducks on a regular basis. I play on the adult softball fields in the adult league. Everything about this park is amazing. read more

I love this park! There are so many things to do here as well as many city club sports. I use to play in the adult softball league with my old job on the baseball fields. I regularly come out to walk and train my dog, play Pokémon go with friends, disc golf, and have been to the roller rink to skate with friends. The sport court is nice to skate on and there's a ton of space to move around my friends and I play roller derby so we were able to do a lot of skating drills together without impacting other skaters. There are so a few playgrounds for kids to run around, lots of open grassy areas and tables for picnics, and the trail around the park is probably one of my favorites to walk with my dog. The Queen Califa mosaic is beautiful to walk through as well. read more

Nice park in Escondido, with a pond and an art sculpture garden. There are ducks and a population of large turtles that live in the pond. The Queen Califa Sculpture garden is only open Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Several playgrounds for the kids. Large and lots of trees for privacy. read more

Kit Carson Park is a great place for a day outdoors. At almost 300 acres, it is a fairly large park. There are scenic hiking and walking trails, as well as picnic areas, which are both covered and uncovered. There are two playgrounds, as well as facilities for softball, bastkeyball, frisbee golf, and skateboarding. For us, it's a nice stop to have a picnic lunch on the way to other places in Escondido. Truly worth the price of admission. Tons of parking spots and lights. It feels safe to drop by here once in a while. Used to frequent this place for soccer practice as a child and even came to watch my ex girlfriend's softball games. Most recently, I came to the frisbee golf area. It's well maintained and marked. I'm surprised not many people make it out here anymore but I realized due to the pandemic less people are outdoors. I'll be back for sure. I'm working on losing weight and brining sexy back like Justin Timberlake if you're old enough to know who he is lol. read more

Accessibility: this park is accessible for wheelchairs and others as there is disabled parking, paved parking lots and sidewalks. The benches to sit on/near are in the grass however. This park is big in size but it is more spread out than a lot of other parks in Escondido/North County. It has a tennis court, skate park(you have to pay for a membership to use), a pond, Queen Califia's Magical Garden, Frisbee golf, and lots of grass fields for sports events. Open to the public there are two small playgrounds, bathrooms in small buildings, benches here-and-there in the grass, and lots of trees with tons of shade. There is a creek going through the park but it is dried up. This is a beautiful place to take photos. Safety: I would consider this an okay, safe area, but only during the day and in the most open places. On smaller, more hidden areas such as walking to Queen Califia's Magical Garden, it is very hidden so I recommend going with other people and only going during the day. Even during day hours I have come across groups of people lingering on those hidden trails so please watch your surroundings always. There are park rangers working that check the grounds but they cannot be everywhere at all times. Proximity: this park is right next to the mall so if you are able to walk, you can go from this park to the mall. read more

This Park is HUGE. If you are looking to have a gathering or want to explore outside with minimal interaction, this park is best for both! It is so spacious and everyone kind of keeps to themselves. I found this place on another site for things to do in Escondido (while we were in the area) and we originally came to find Queen Califia's Magical Circle but when we found it, it was closed. We ventured around and found some cool things. Turtles, frogs, fishes, birds, ducks, fire flies, squirrels enjoying the day... when we saw a water spider move lighting fast onto land that is when we left the pond. Of course I was still trying to still get some photos of frogs but Munchkin was outta there super quick. We ventured back to the car and I had remember reading "golf" and I think part of me first thought a golfing range and then was expecting a mini golf place but it was disc golf. Never heard of it before. We watched as learning spectators and munchkin was eager to come back and play! It was amazing how many people came to play this sport. I thought my grandchildren would like to try a different park today.....when they went to use it, one of the pieces of equipment in the playground was very difficult to use....zip line wasn't reachable...this is one of the pieces of equipment my grandchildren like to use. Kit Carson is located in Escondido and is named after the famous scout, Christopher (Kit) Carson. There are many walking/hiking trails, a 5-acre arboretum, ponds, a playground, shaded/covered picnic areas, baseball/softball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, an outdoor amphitheater, a Girl Scouts of America Program Center, and a disc golf course. The hubs and I came here to check out a sculpture park in the Iris Sankey Arboretum, and while it was a bit of a drive from LA, it was well worth it! This is a really big park with a lot to do. There's a duck pond, disc golf (our personal favorite), play structures, picnic areas, a skate park, and clean, well maintained restrooms. This was our go-to disc golf course even before we were staying so close. The holes are laid out well and you get quite a bit of exercise while walking the course. There is sand, grass and water so it makes for an interesting game. It also makes an 18 hole game go quickly. Their disc golf shop is also well maintained and the guy working there is always friendly and helpful. read more

We came to see the wacky, mystical mosaic masterpiece, known as Queen Califa's Magical Circle, only to be disappointed. Yes, it was still there. No, it was not open. Ruined, because of the insensitive, malicious acts of others, it had to be fenced off and only open to the public once a month. Sad, bad people who show no respect. What I didn't realize was, the Magic Circle is part of a much bigger picture. This lovely park. The park is huge with lots of places for kids to have an adventure. Tall bamboo jungle trails to play hide and seek, a large pond to feed and chase the ducks complete with their own little island sanctuary, lots of grassy, open spaces for having a frisbee toss or fly a kite, plenty of park benches for grandma, and shaded picnic tables for the weekender's favorite hot dog or fried chicken dinner. The dirt trails are decent and inviting for those who have a mind to jog or otherwise work out their bicycle thighs to impress those of us of the more flabby kind. With it's long holes and short technical holes. Kit Carson Park is the home of my favorite disc golf course in San Diego. An eighteen basket masterpiece that will challenge even the most seasoned disc golfer. No two holes are the same as you are challenged with making different shots to each basket be it around or over trees; or even a blind shot over a hill. The difficulty of the course is enough to frustrate any player but it also satisfying when you succeed. I really enjoyed walking the course with it's trails and bridges. During play you even walk over a small creek on stones and sandbags. Scattered throughout the park is the occasional grouping of trees an obstacle in your round but a shaded reprieve from the hot sun especially in the summer months. My favorite hole on the course is one of the last holes. I believe it's either 15 or 16. It is a blind shot over rows of orange trees with the basket being 300 plus feet away and ending in a open field. Again my favorite disc golf course in San Diego. Did I mention it was free to play? They also have a great disc golf shop. Where you can buy anything from discs to disc golf bags to everything else you would need to play your best. Support your local parks and rec centers. One of the nicest places in Escondido. Green grass, nice play sets, hiking trails, bike paths, large outdoor artwork displays, sports facilities, and a secret tile garden. Escondido finally has something they can be proud of. If you live in Escondido there's no doubt that you've been here for birthday parties or organized sporting activities. Tourists on the other hand probably only come here for Queen Califia's Magical Garden. The usefulness of this park is only truly revealed the more times you visit and explore around. Wanna try something really cool?? Just west of the sports center is a duck habitat. Around this area is a bamboo forest where you get lost in the various paths that people have made over the years. See pictures of the entrance. Negatives - Frisbee golf park. While there are no homeless that live in Kit Carson Park, some of the people that play amateur Frisbee are not that far off. I was left shaking my head when I saw a group of nonathletic disc players toting around a large cooler and a 1980's ghetto blaster. For being a public park, this park is very nice. I still usually drive down to Felicita County park when I'm taking the kids out to play, but this park is very clean and well organized. Only complaint I have is the disc throwing thing took over the park, and the kids always have to be careful when trying to run around. So they're mainly limited to the jungle gym section of the park. read more

This is a pretty good park. There are several different areas. There's one with swings etc for kids - the tot lot with picnic areas. And another that also has frisbee golf or whatever it's called and a couple of picnic areas. The only thing I don't like about that is that often you get a mix of frisbee-golfers and park enjoyers in the same spot - I'm always scared of getting hit by a rogue frisbee. I think you can reserve the picnic spots. We took our dog for a walk here, he loved it. There were tons of squirrels for him to chase, well he would have if he had actually seen them. Every time I've come here Queen Califia's Magic Circle has been closed. Last time it was under reno, this time we came at the wrong time. It's open Tues - Fri 9-12 or something and the second Saturday of the month. Bit of a bummer. read more

One of my childhood parks where there are so many memories, but very few structures left that were from that era. If you're a local you remember the sombrero slide where all the bees were and the slide might take your skin off as you slide down on a hot esco summer day. Where the merry go round would go so fast if you were one of the little ones you held on for dear life. Yet, I digress... back to the present. As I walked the trail (soon after a marathon for doggies had ended) I felt the memories were all still there. The loop path takes you around the back end of the park almost spitting you back into the mall and city, but you keep going and realize you're still in the park. Inside you can find ball fields, tennis courts, a lake full of ducks and turtles, skate park, trails, playgrounds, and its dog friendly. Even on a day like today there was NO MESS! Shocked, and happy! This park is kept up nice and will always have a fond place in my heart. PS for the adventurous type the water fountains ARE cold! NICE! read more

This place is freaking awesome! Honestly, I only go there for the Califia's Magical Circle Garden, but it is an AMAZING park. Besides this beautiful mosaic art piece from Niki de Sainte Phalle, there is a lot going on here. The park is HUGE, there are tons of trails and hiking/walking, there is a dog park, it's home to local Girl Scouts council, there is a disc golf course (be careful walking around there!), plenty of picnicking places, with trees and tables and BBQs, there are some little lakes, baseball fields, soccer, tennis courts, playgrounds, they used to have a trapeze school... not sure if it is still there or not, but overall, there is everything you could want here. It's really awesome. The only bummer is the short hours for the Magic Circle, only on the 2nd Saturdays from like 9-12. Due to the short hours, it's PACKED, but I still love going there! This is definitely a park with a little bit for everyone. read more
