I was referred to Dr. Kiprov by my regular doctor because of a sudden eye problem. Today was my 2nd appointment with her, and although she may be a good surgeon according to other Yelpers, this appointment confirmed that she is lacking the personal skills to be a good doctor. At both appointments, she was skeptical of my description of my symptoms, intimating that I was not telling the truth about them. After tests showed that I was actually telling the truth (!), she said that I could just live with the symptoms, or she could, she reluctantly supposed, refer me to a specialist. I have had 20/20 vision for all of my life and have been quite upset about the possibility of my current vision problem becoming permanent. I stated this and wish she had responded logically. If a patient is very concerned and scared, it's illogical for a doctor to a) suggest the patient isn't telling the truth or b) suggest that the patient does nothing and just "lives with it." If she reads this, I'm sorry but I'll probably do my best to avoid visiting your practice again. I don't want or need a doctor to be touchy-feely, but I do want to feel like you understand your patients fears and respond appropriately with explanations & suggestions. I shouldn't have to feel like I'm imposing on you to answer questions about what you find. If you're bored explaining the physiology of an eyeball to referred patients, you may want to switch to doing surgery only & stop seeing "regular" patients. The 2 staffers were excellent, friendly, and helpful. I have insurance and pay my co-pays immediately, so those are not the issue. read more

I went to Dr. Kiprov because I thought I might have an eye infection. It turned out to be just something stuck in my eye. She was impersonal and impatient from the first second I met her. She did not even bother to introduce herself when she walked in, barely glanced at my record, and started looking at me. I have had optometrists and ophthalmologists dig around in my eye to remove objects before. It's unpleasant, but they were nice and established trust, and were always able to help me get calm enough so that I can keep from blinking or moving and let them work. Dr. Kiprov, on the other hand, worried me with how much she was rushing. I had trouble trusting her to poke around on my eye. She did not seem to comprehend that being impatient with me was making it much worse. She accidentally poked my eye when trying to remove an object, because she was in too much of a hurry. I hope she didn't do any real damage! She continued to be rude, turning her back and walking out of the examining room as soon as she felt she was done, not caring if I might have a question. I will never go back to her office again. Her staff was nice, and I got the impression that she might be fairly knowledgeable, but she was unbearable. read more

IF you are INSURED, and seeking no-frills (and expensive) eye disease care, Dr.Kprov is excellent. Why did I down-grade her on the 'stars'? I have genetically odd eyes with optic nerve area that would look AS IF I was on my way to Glacoma. Hence, she performed $1K worth of tests...when I was insured; and prescribed harmless, but expensive, medication as a precautionary measure, in lieu of Glacoma (which, for me, could be 'blinding' within 48-hours I'm told). When my prescription for the medication ran-out, she wouldn't renew it without the ($800 - $1k) in tests. As I'm not insured, and won't be for another 6 mo.; I can't afford the the testing. That's just 'Too bad;' according to her office. ($215.- basic exam; $318.- and $210.- for additional retina testing). read more

I had been diagnosed with cataracts by a previous ophthalmologist and wanted a second opinion on the surgery. Dr.Kiprov was thorough with her exams and explained all my options. She referred me to a retinologist for a consultation and he stated that she was an excellent surgeon with good technical skills. That is what I wanted; someone competent and skilled. The surgery went well and the optician who sees me remarked on the excellent outcome of the cataract surgery. I second a note by another reviewer: if you want "warm and fuzzy" go somewhere else. If you want competency,knowledge and superior surgical tecnical skills then this is your gal. As for me, these are the only eyes I have so I will take technical and diagnostic expertise over personality any day!!! read more

Dr Kiprov was the closest choice on my insurance providers list. She saw me within a few hours of my calling. I had an infection that UC School of Optometry missed. She was competent, gentle, anesthetized the eye before examining it, and wrote me a prescription. If you're looking for bubbly-giggly lolly pops go elsewhere. I thought she was just what I needed and I don't really understand the negative reviews here. Maybe it's an age thing; I'm not young and neither is Dr. K. Bedside manners were quite abrasive and impatient during my one visit. Someone wrote on Yelp that she has a more European/Israeli style personality. I've spent time with many families in Israel who just want to feed me amazing food and while some are quite honest and to the point with no sugar coating, I wouldn't equate that to what I experienced. If you need a little bit of extra support you won't get that here. She looked visibly annoyed and let out a sigh when I involuntarily pulled back when she tried to work on my eye. Based on my one visit, I'd say that If you have some anxiety about visiting an eye doctor or think you might be a bit involuntarily non compliant, you won't be happy with her and she won't be happy with you. This was more than a year ago so perhaps she has improved? I wouldn't risk it. read more

My husband went to this doctor. He was told that the charge for a full eye exam would be $240; however the bill came to $375 because of the "extras". Also, he had the same experience as the other reviewers - not pleasant. She told him he would be blind in one eye in 2 months due to catarcts. Hasn't happened as yet. And he is looking for another eye doctor. read more

I am amazed to read so many negative remarks about Dr. Kiprov, who has been my opthamologist for many years now, having taken over the practice of her former associate, Dr. Goloff. All of my previous encounters with Dr. Koprov have been most pleasant and I have never experienced any of the behavior that others have reported. I went to Dr. Kiprov for a few years. Her office was calm and she seemed nice. But then she started pushing. First she wanted me to have cataract surgery. Then when I refused that, she said I was getting glaucoma. I went to another doctor and got retested yesterday, and my eyes are fine. I don't need any surgery or medication. I guess she needs to make some money from doing surgery. And I don't know why she was telling me my eye pressure was too high. She makes money from the prescription drugs? I don't know. Maybe she is just mean. At any rate, I no longer trust her. I am not going back. read more

Do not go here. I went here because my primary physician wanted me to see an eye specialist because I had an eye infection, just to double check. Went and saw this woman and she made me feel like I was silly for going to see her for this eye infection. I'm sorry, but risk losing my sight or go in to make sure? She was pretty rude, in my mind. Dr. Kiprov is experienced and very competent. I have been going to her for a number of years and have had only positive experiences.

Every patient's experience is different, of course; but after racing other reviews of Dr. Kiprov, my conclusion is quite different from those patients who rated her poorly. In every respect--attractive waiting room, helpful staff, brief delay--my appointment went well. Her Bedside manners were quite abrasive and impatient during my last visit to her. She performed Cataract surgery on one of my eyes several years ago and it took almost an hour. Initially she expressed concern but I experienced complications with redness, irritation and pain. I went back to her several times for help and she could not figure out what was causing my problem. Finally I got a referral to another Doctor who checked and found that she had left a stitch in my eye which was causing the irritation. It was removed and I was find for awhile and then I started having cloudy vision and it was then determined that I scar tissue had formed from the surgery. I am now seeing a retina specialist and would not recommend Dr Kiprov to anyone. read more

I am in a pickle as a result of this visit. My ophthalmologist retired 2 years back. Dr. Kiprov took over his practice. She gave me a first time exam, which unfortunately she billed insurance $460 for. Took the refraction to my optometrist. Lenses are blurry in reading range (graduated lenses). Took prescription back to Kiprov to be checked. She criticized the optician and suggested lenses she sells. Prescription differs in an unlikely way from previous opthalmologist's measurements. Unfortunately, my insurance will not cover a second opinion. In summary, my experience was that Dr Kiprov is exorbitant, not very objective advice, impatient and possibly inaccurate. read more

Simply, I did not like her. I pulled her name out at random from my provider directory, and I wish I didn't. I have generally good eyes, which seemed to bore her. She ran through my eye examination in record time (as in 2 minutes, maybe). I've been given a prescription for reading for the last 15 years. Which, my visual impairment being mild, I tend not to fill and simply buy over the counter readers. Dr. Kiprov's solution to my slight lack of visual clarity when reading was to say "No, no readers for you." She claims that the I'm too young for glasses (I'm 39) and that I'm only making my eyes worse and that every other prescription had been wrong. As I walked out of her office door (literally) she said, you can have prescription to deal with my declining night vision, if I wanted. Errghh! She may be the most technically competent person in the world, but simply put, I didn't like her. Find someone who at least gives some impression that they care about your vision!! read more

I've been with Dr. Kiprov for years, for routine check-ups once a year. In the last year and a half I had a cataract removed and have been very satisfied. The second, however, done in Oct of 2010 has been an ongoing problem. I know Dr. K. to be very impersonal and have tried to bring warmth into the exam room, but to no avail! She is very cold, uncongenial, and unapproachable. I've had so many questions about the unsatisfactory outcome of this second surgery & have been afraid to ask. I did during my last visit and met with her impatience again. This eye continues to tear all day and is very uncomfortable and a deep concern to me. I called as recently as Friday 2/4 before closing hours, no one answered, so I left a message. I will edit this statement should there be a positive outcome. As it stands now, I'm unhappy & I don't look forward to seeing her again. Her staff, Jennifer and Lisa are friendly & competent. I don't know how they can continue to work with this doctor!!! I'm now a Medicare/AARP patient and can choose elsewhere. I will, without hesitation! read more

I have known and been treated by Dr. Kiprov for the past 6 months and have had two very successful complicated surgeries for cataracts with pseudo-exfoliation. Both the testing and re-testing was very thorough, not only to accurately assess how the surgery would go but also to make sure the new transplanted lenses were correctly prescribed. The post-surgical visits were likewise extremely thorough. I went online and goggled the type of surgery I had and learned just how complicated and what kind of expertise the ophthalmologist needed. I highly recommend Dr. Kiprov. I went to Yelp just to get her phone number and was appalled by the negative reviews. In addition to being an extremely qualified doctor, I found her to be professional and forthright. I believe that Dr. Kiprov respected me and my assessment of what I was experiencing. I believe she is serious and does not joke around, but has a genuineness and manner that I found reassuring, given the serious nature of her profession. I find Dr. Kiprov and her staff to be both welcoming and friendly. read more
