Wait time is ridiculous. I had an eye appointment at 9:15 and was not seen until 10:15. Parking is on the street and you have to pay ($3 for 1.5 hours). I had to bring my baby and could not get out to put more money in the meter. They book appointments every 15 minutes and clearly they need to allow more time between appointments. However, dr. Saw Dr. Horn on Powerball Wednesday and although I didn't win the 225,000.000 I still feel like I hit the jackpot finding Dr Horn! Amazing! He is personable, patient, knowledgeable-I love that he personally called me back, gave eye contact and a genuine smile when introducing himself. I never thought I would get an MD referral from Yelp, but when my physician didn''t return my call, and I thought I had an issue that needed quick attention, I turned to Yelp. This by far the ideal place for all ur eye/ visual needs Dr. Horn is ur man! In addition, the staff is rated 5 star platinum. The day I came in for cataract surgery... my ride had a family emergency. Waiting waiting & waiting for my p/u the time was getting later and later. The staff Iris, Jessica and of course Dr. Horn stayed open for me till way past 7:00pm !!!! Do use Dr. Horn. He is great and seems careful and responsible. HOWEVER, if you could somehow sidetrack his front office that would be recommended. The wait the wait the wait...be prepared to leave and make another appointment for later when they tell you the wait is an hour, because that means it will be a lot longer. The billing the billing the billing. A portion of my last bill is going to collections because they did not collect from VSP for my eye exam. Last October I went in for a related (to my June exam) issue, I was asked by one of the (many, yes many - it takes a lot of people to run an office so poorly) staff about the unpaid portion, I mentioned that my VSP should have paid. I did not hear from them until April that I still had an outstanding bill...huh? I called, I was told I had to call VSP myself, as it was too late for them to get approval...blah blah...I told Ms. Officious and Rude To try practicing some customer service and own my problem and find a solution and quit bothering me for their mistake. She said she was going to send the bill $53 - to collections. Good solution...so thoughty and original. OK, I was not on my best behavior. Lessons learned? Don't assume that because you had a conversation with someone, that it is going to be followed by action. Document ever visit and contact. Have something to do after you check in...like go have dental surgery...come back when its over and you wont have too long to wait. read more

I would like to rescind my harsh review on Dr. Horn. After all, it was his receptionist and not him. Perhaps we were both having a bad day. Obviously from the reviews he is a good doctor and he should not be punished because of this incident. I just received treatment by Dr. Horn for a somewhat nasty eye infection, the kind of thing that could have been pretty distressing, but he and his staff made it an oddly positive experience. As mentioned in other reviews here, he's incredibly nice and positive and makes you feel comfortable asking questions and generally going through tricky procedures -- but he's also obviously very smart and very knowledgeable. He explained what was going on with my eye very clearly, and also explained just what it would take to make me better. And he saw me first on a Sunday! He brought his two boys to his office and saw me and someone else in the middle of the day. Great guy, great experience, great doctor. read more

Relocating to the Bay Area was challenging because I didn't know many people. I found myself in need of an ophthalmologist. Who in their right mind uses Yelp to find a physician? This girl does, apparently. I was scared when I went to Dr. Horn because I had experienced some drastic changes in vision, and I feared the worst. Before going in I did my research on him, beyond Yelp. His educational background was impressive, and I certainly felt he was qualified to treat my case. When I met him I was very pleased with his caring, friendly demeanor and exceptional bedside manner. I also loved his explanations, which were thorough and easy to understand. Above all, his knowledge and expertise were calming and reassuring. I feel very fortunate to have found him, and I would certainly recommend him to friends and family. As for the wait time... Quality care is worth waiting for. I am appreciative of a physician who is focused on me and my issue and not on the clock. read more

Dr. Horn has always struck me as highly competent. God help you if you get Jessica on the phone, though. (At least this is what she said her name was.) She's so snotty it's absurd; it's like talking to a mean 10-year-old. Definitely not the foot you want to put forward in a business. Dr. Horn is skilled and compassionate in his care. He removed a bump below my eye making sure it would heal without leaving a mark. Afterwards, he recommended I have the tissue analyzed at a lab, and he went far out of his way to make it affordable for me to do so. It was easy to set up appointments and I never had to wait long. First off, if you're coming to see Dr. Horn, make it as early as possible. He is the type of doctor that does not dictate his pace by what is on the schedule. He spends as much time with the patient as needed. Consequently, you get the best and worst of this. You get undeniably very good attention and all your questions asked. He is a very warm and empathetic doctor. However, if you are one of 10 patients and each patient is allotted 15 minutes but takes 30...you can do the math. I cannot vouch for his technical expertise as he has not performed cataract surgery or any procedure on me of any kind outside of several drops to each eye and a thorough look at the back of my eyes. I'm taking for granted that anyone reading this review isn't looking for his surgery success rate. You are here to get your eyes examined and any issue discussed. I saw Dr. Horn a while back for a horrible bout of dry eye and infection. I don't know if I've ever felt so comfortable in a doctor's office as I did during our consultation. He took the time to answer all of my questions and did everything he could to explain the problem to me, as well as give me options for my treatment. He was totally open about the potential side effects of certain treatments and made me feel so much better about my condition. He was so great that I'd go back even though I don't have health insurance that covers his practice anymore. read more

Even though Dr. Horn isn't my regular eye doctor he was on call when I had a problem with my eye (swollen for no apparent reason). He was sooooo nice to me. He met me at his office on a weekend, did a thorough exam, and gave me the drops I needed to resolve my eye issue. The most amazing part was he called me the next day to see how I was doing! I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Erich Horn and his staff due to a chemical burn to my cornea. It was determined that I needed special care for four consecutive days. Dr. Horn went out of his way to meet me on his day off to monitor my healing process, so my eye had a chance to fully recover. If you have any eye problems, this is the Dr. you want to see. He genuinely cares about his patients well being and is one of the most knowledgeable doctors I have ever experienced. read more

Don't go to this office if you don't want to wait at least an hour. Customer service is not a high priority for this office. The physicians may be very competent but that is not reflected in the way the office is run. I had an 1130 appointment. I arrived and checked in at 1120. I was called back at 1230 for the assistant to do some basic eye tests and I was told that Dr Horn still had another patient ahead of me and that it would probably be another 15 minutes before he could see me. As I would be having my eyes dilated I would be there another 45 after I finally did see him. She told me he had an emergency patient. Ok I get that I'm an RN but I have had to wait at least 45 min for every other visit I've had there. Also the office staff should have told me when I arrived that he was running behind and did I want to reschedule. I'm done and if you are smart you will never start there if you value your time. read more

I am 79 years old, and Dr. Erich Horn, M.D. is THE BEST! ophthalmologist I have ever had, and I saw the first one at age three and one-half years! He is incredible, addresses the patient's needs, and is willing to negotiate with the patient in order to get said patient's needs met. I almost went blind in my left eye thanks to Dr. Horn. Saw him a couple of times back in March 2015 for flashing lights and some peripheral vision cloudiness and was told it was probably "ocular migraines". Went back in early October 2015 after losing half of the vision in my left eye (which Dr. Horn confirmed with a visual field test) and was told I had "glaucoma." I asked if it might not be a detached retina (symptoms seemed to indicate that as per my research) and he said "absolutely not." Went for a second opinion to Pacific Eye Associates in San Francisco in late October and they ran extensive tests, including a retinal scan. I was told I had to have surgery immediately that same day as I definitely did have a detached retina and was in imminent danger of irreversibly losing 100% of my eyesight in my left eye as the retinal tear was rapidly approaching the macula. They performed a cryopexy with pneumatic retinopexy right there in the office and within an hour I was on my way home. Happily I have now regained all of my eyesight and am recovering quickly from the minimally invasive procedure. read more

Dr Horn is probably the best doctor I have ever gone to. He has amazing bedside manner. I only have one eye that is correctable and he takes so much more time making sure it is healthy. I was very impressed a couple of weeks ago when I went for my annual check up and he check my "blind eye" and then he went to my good eye and spent more time but told me during the exam that he was spending the extra time because that is the only eye I see out of it. I was getting anxious because I thought something was wrong because he was spending more time and he anticipated my concern without me saying anything which immediately put me at ease. I was going to another doctor in the practice when I had to go to Dr. Horn because the other doctor was on vacation and I am so happy I did. I am in my 50's and I have been seeing eye doctors since I was 4. Believe me he is good and his credentials are some of the best. read more

I was very unhappy with the care that I received from Dr. Horn. It is my opinion (and I am not a Doctor but I have now visited three other surgeons and opthamologists) that Dr. Horn misdiagnosed my condition and was not paying attention to the symptoms that I was complaining about. My outcome became an emergency whereas had he recommended me to visit a retinal specialist, the treatment would have likely been less invasive (laser) and not an emergency. I have to second Collin's comments about Dr. Horn. He is the one of the nicest doctors I have ever seen. In addition, he is extremely competent and caring. I have (or I should say, I HAD) really bad eyesight, so bad that I couldn't even see the letter at the top of the chart(the really BIG one) without my glasses. I also had severe astigmatism. I started seeing Dr. Horn several years ago when I was having trouble getting a prescription that worked from my previous eye doctor. Dr. Horn worked patiently and carefully with me to get the right prescription, and recently, he performed cataract surgery that restored my eyesight. Throughout the procedure, he and his staff were both competent and supportive. I felt very well cared for, and I'm ecstatic with the outcome. I highly recommend Dr. Horn, especially for people who have "challenging" vision problems. read more

For years I had company-paid insurance at Kaiser, but I've gone to Dr. Horn and paid out of my own pocket. That's how good he is. I see out of one eye, and that eye was developing a cataract, so his care has been extremely important to me. Before the cataract surgery, my vision was 20-50; now it's 20-20 and I don't have to wear glasses at all when using a computer. But he's more than a smart and extremely competent doctor; he's a warm and caring person. Two days after my surgery, on a Saturday, I woke up with blurred vision. He made a special trip to the office and spent two hours with me to make sure everything was okay. (It was; my cornea simply needed time to adjust to the surgery.) How many doctors would do that? l challenge you to find a better ophthalmologist anywhere. read more
