Great food. Horrific (and a bit racist) staff/service. I went here for dinner with a friend on the night of 3/11/22 between 6-8pm. Our server was East Asian, long black hair slicked back, white t-shirt, and black pants. Dude needs work, because the food was amazing, but when it comes to work ethic/customer service, this guy is an oblivious clown. Sorry I'm not sorry. We came pretty early and they had just opened. Since there were only 3 other tables, we thought it would be fast/efficient service. Wrong! We ordered appetizers, an udon soup, and a couple donburis. The appetizers and soup were great and came out fast. It was all downhill after that. We waited almost an hour after finishing our donburis before we could get them, and that was after checking on their status with our server a couple times. During this time our server also brought us someone else's noodles by mistake and had to take it back. Thanks brah. Finally our rice bowls came, and again, great food. However, by then we were kinda bored of sitting there for so long. Our waiter waited until he finally brought the dishes over to tell us there was a "mistake" with the table numbers on the order which caused the delay. One, thanks for the last minute notice, but you could have told us this earlier. We would have understood and adjusted accordingly. Also, if your team makes this big of a mistake when there are only three other tables, then that's not a good sign. At the end of the meal, I then requested we get our things to-go because we were there longer than expected because of the server's mistake. I know the recent change to takeout is relatively new to some places in Paris still, but come on dude. It's the least you could do after YOUR mistake earlier in the evening. He kinda acted annoyed (again, after we had to wait an hour as a result of HIS error) and he then reluctantly did so. All you have to do is put our food that arrived late into a box man, it won't kill you. Heaven forbid that clients expect you to do your job while you are getting paid to work, right? It's lunacy, I know. One thing that I did notice out of the corner of my eye before asking though (and why I even did so in the first place) is that another table in the corner of the restaurant, of mostly white girls, also asked for takeout. But with them it was all sunshine and rainbows, no attitude. He packed up their food right away, no problem. For some added context, I am mixed race Latino and my friend is South Asian. I speak a little bit of French and my friend is fluent seeing as how she grew up in Paris. So it wasn't really a language barrier thing on our end. Having worked in Japanese companies before, I know that some East Asians still (whether intentionally, or subconsciously) still are a bit racist and believe in some asinine racial hierarchy, and this is how it came off tonight. To be honest, I genuinely feel bad for the cooks and back of house staff. They obviously know what they are doing and make really good authentic Japanese food (at least in reference to the dishes that I ordered) even though the restaurant is in Paris. However, I cannot say the same for the front of house staff. They need help. And fast. As snarky as this may sound, I guess it kind of made our meal even more authentic? Because we were able to get a side of bona fide East Asian racism with our udon and donburis. Bon Appétit! If I could give a recommendation to the owner/manager, it would be to keep your back of house, but start making some changes to the front of house staff, especially servers. I probably won't be back any time soon. There are literally tons of great ramen spots in Paris, so you don't have to put up with bad customer service more than once by going to the same place. Just keep it moving. Onto the next one. If you are one of those people that can tolerate trash service for great food, more power to you. My parents taught me to have self-respect though, so it's a hard pass for me. Just take the L tonight and do better tomorrow. read more
