Hands down, this was the #1 best thing I did for myself and my baby postpartum. Susan has created such a safe and welcoming place for moms to meet other moms and learn about all things motherhood. Motherhood can be incredibly lonely and isolating and meeting up with the other moms weekly was truly a blessing. We learned so many tips and tricks and Susan always answered all of our questions. I participated in Session 1+2 of the Mama & Babe classes and they were wonderful! Ginny (our teacher) was so knowledgeable, friendly and helpful to all the new moms in our group. We covered good topics during newborn phase and into 6months etc. I found the classes on sleep, introducing solids, and overall just learning about your own baby and the milestones they will reach was really nice. We formed our own mom chat group and that helped tremendously throughout the pandemic. I have already recommended the classes to 3 other new moms. I was referred to Kinspace when I was pregnant, looking for a way to find friends in a similar life stage. The friend who referred me piqued my interest by talking about the group chat she had going on with other new moms - it sounded promising! So I signed up, and am so glad I did! Each session includes 8 (10? I'm forgetting) hour long classes/discussions, where a very useful topic is covered - everything from napping to sleeping to solid foods to teething and more. Susan is SO informative, and answers all of our questions with no judgment - and always provides the most useful information. Just as importantly, in the first session she ensures someone volunteers to create a channel of communication so that everyone is in touch and can form deeper friendships and exchange stories and information outside of the class - and we use it daily! Becoming a FTM in 2020 was challenging on many levels. However, there's no way I could have gotten through it without the Kinspace community that Susan provided. I feel very lucky to have found this Mama and Me class while pregnant. So much stuff is online only now after COVID and it was so refreshing to meet other new moms in person every week. I participated in a Mama & Babe group with my first baby, and also more recently two sessions of Mama & Babe for second time moms with my second baby. I cannot recommend Susan and Kinspace enough. The second group was during Covid and Susan was able to create a safe environment for us to meet in person, which was really nice. Having a community of moms going through similar situations is so comforting, and Susan was there to provide guidance, suggestions, and answer any questions we had. I really liked having structured conversations about topics I may not have thought through (like discipline and potty training) as well as just chatting about what happened that day with the toddler or baby. I loved the Mama + Babe sessions. It came at the perfect time for me, when my baby was about 3 months old so I wasn't seeing the early support people as much (midwives, doula, or pediatrician as often) but still had SO many questions and new things to learn all the time. Each session focused on a different topic, and Susan was a fantastic leader. She was so supportive and listened so carefully to each mama, and gave wonderful practical advice and feedback without ever being judgmental or critical. I joined the Kinspace Mama + Babe group when I had my first baby a year ago. Since everyone in the group has babies born within the same couple of months, we are all experiencing the same developmental milestones and challenges together making it a great resource and support system. Though we only had a few sessions in person before the pandemic hit, the move to virtual sessions was seamless. Susan does an amazing job fostering that community over the Zoom sessions, which has been even more valuable at a time when we're more physically distanced/disconnected from the world. I stopped going when I returned to work after maternity leave but when it became clear things were going to stay Zoom-based for most of the year, I was able to re-join my same group. We have a group text of all the mamas so I had been able to stay in touch and continue being a part of that community even when I missed a couple of months of the group. It's a space where we can check if something is expected, get advice/recommendations for baby-related things, share experiences, and most importantly share both the highlights and frustrations in a truly judgment free zone. Beyond the sense of community, the educational content, resources and discussion topics of the sessions are useful. Susan is so knowledgeable and so kind, she covers so many important topics but it never feels preachy or judgy - it's always conversational and she leaves a lot of space for us to all be ourselves. read more

I completed the Parent Prep class and then Mama + Babe sessions 2 and 3. The Parent Prep class was great and made me feel as prepared as I possibly could as a first time mom. I also found the length and amount of content perfect. Then I participated in the Mama + Babe classes, which were fantastic. The classes are once a week for a little over an hour and touches on a new topic every week that is developmentally appropriate for your baby's age. I looked forward to these classes every week and they helped me create a community of new moms going through exactly what I was experiencing. If you are feeling like you can't take on session 1 with a brand new baby, just do it. I truly wish that I had started in session 1. read more

The Kinspace class was such a highlight of maternity leave. I took the class for 2nd Time Mamas, and it was so nice to have a dedicated outing each week to be present with my daughter (away from busy toddler) and connect with other mamas. Susan, the founder and our group's facilitator, is so helpful with troubleshooting the issues that arise in early days of parenting. She's practical and thoughtful and has a peaceful integrity that makes her a joy to be around. Apart from her immensely helpful brass tacks advice on baby care, her stories about parenting her own kids made me excited for what's to come and think about the kind of mother I want to be and the relationship I want to cultivate with my children as they grow. My fiancé and I are expecting our first baby this August and like most first time parents we're feeling excited but also very overwhelmed with everything that comes along with having a baby and the changes that have already begun and are soon ahead. As a first-time mom in a city with hardly any family, I really don't know what I would have done without Susan and our other class members in our Mama + Babe class. I so appreciated all the knowledge Susan shared, and I really looked forward to our class every week. I can't recommend the classes enough to new moms; they were so therapeutic in the best way. From the weekly topics that always seemed particularly relevant, to Susan's patience with our endless Q&As, and all of her personal tips and research-based advice about development, age-appropriate play, sleep (!), nursing/feeding, soothing, etc. Each week, Susan would share a variety articles/handouts in advance of the class, which was so helpful then but also now as a reference to look back on. I also wouldn't have nearly the song repertoire without this class (says a self-confessed terrible singer - but at least my daughter doesn't mind!). I can't give Susan and her McMoyler class enough praise. My husband and I are first time parents and needed a serious crash course on baby 101. We did the 1 day class in Sausalito and we're both surprised with how much knowledge we walked away with. From mommy health, breastfeeding, CPR, and baby care, we really felt like we got a great overview. Susan herself is incredible - knowledgeable, non judgmental, and a great communicator. We loved working with her so much at the class that we hired her as a newborn/Lactation consultant post our baby's birth to help us put together a real life plan that worked for us specifically. Susan is wonderful! I took her free class on sleep earlier this year and learned so much about getting our son to self soothe. Once we started considering sleep training/learning, we reached out and she came to our home, spent a lot of time fully understanding our son and family, and set us up with an easy to follow plan taking into consideration our son's personality and our preferences. She held our hand throughout the first few nights and has been incredibly generous with her time since then, catching up with us on the phone and email when issues have come up with daycare, illness, teething, and all of the other things that get in the way of good sleep. As a new mom, sometimes it feels like you are always in survival mode: "Is my child eating enough? Sleeping enough? Socializing enough? Did I take a shower today? Ack!" As soon as I walked into Susan's Mommy & Me class, I was at ease. She has such a deep empathy and understanding about all the motherhood woes, and after a few weekly sessions, I became confident and empowered. She is extremely informed, but beyond that, the whole class could feel how much she cared for each of us. Once my daughter was mobile, she would quickly crawl towards Susan. Without missing a beat, Susan would continue to lead class with babies crawling all over her. At nine months, my daughter was still waking up throughout the night. My husband and I ended up bringing her to bed with us just so we could all get some rest, which was not working out. Susan was eager to help. She reminded us how important it would be for our daughter to have a safe and comfortable space of her own. And despite my own fears, my 9-month-old could do it. She came to our home to talk through what was working and what wasn't, and later provided a personalized sleep coaching plan. I was so nervous about it! And I won't lie---the first night was R-O-U-G-H. But Susan was on-call and available, responding to the play-by-play. It felt good to have her in our corner to help guide us through it. I went from a non-believer to mega-fan who is now referring friends! Susan is a special soul and a loving mother who teaches with many of the lessons she has learned in her own home. We were both very impressed by Susan's class. She's a wonderful class leader that adds a lot of color with her great sense of humor and personal stories. Personally I was not that stoked to have to spend two nights in a row after a long days work sitting in class room listening to baby talk, but I'm happy I did. I think I've been going into this baby thing not realizing how much there is to it. I was naive enough to think civilization has been making babies since the beginning of man kind and what can I possibly learn about it in a classroom, nature will just take its course. Your class provided information that I didn't even know i needed to know. - It was a wake up call for the male role in the birthing process and made me feel much more bonded with my partner and the process we were going through. - learning from an instructor that has been through it herself as well as counseled many couples over the years brings valuable information we'd otherwise never think of along the journey. Simple advice such as enjoying the moments of infancy, to learning proper breathing , swaddling, and sleeping techniques makes me feel much more prepared to be a dad. - Meeting other couples that are simultaneously going through the process was very uplifting and supportive. It's one thing to receive advice from family and friends that have gone through this in the past but it's nice to be in a room with other couples that are dealing with it in real time and being able to share some stories. There are good and bads to all pregnancies, and this class environment was a great platform to discuss and bond with other couples. read more

My husband and I took The McMoyler Method class offered at Sprout on Union. It was a lot of information packed into two, three hour sessions. The first night labor tips were very helpful in preparing and also implementing techniques when our son was born. Susan provides information but is never judgmental about decisions made by each family. She asked questions to provide information or guidance. My husband and I chatted about the course afterwards and he confessed that he was dreading the experience for fear of being preached at but said he never felt that way and thought Sudan's approach was very refreshing. The motto of the class is "healthy baby/healthy mama" and that is really the core of the principles taught. The second night care class was also helpful to learn basics of breastfeeding, bathing and infant cpr. We both took away different things from the class that have been helpful with our baby. I additionally hired Susan two different times for lactation consulting. The first was right after coming home from the hospital. As a new Mom, I wanted to make sure I was doing everything correctly and setting us up for breastfeeding success. Susan came to my home and offered great tips and tricks. There are things I never would have known without her guidance and it was so convenient and helpful. Once I returned to work, I talked with Susan via phone on hints to help with dual use of the bottle and breastfeeding. Again, practical guidance delivered in an amazing, supportive way. I'd highly recommend working with Susan. She makes you feel extremely supported. She never offers an unwanted opinion but listens to your challenges and goals and offers practical guidance based on experience. She makes herself quickly available and is so pleasant to talk to. I have come to believe that parenthood is one of those life experiences for which no amount of preparation will actually prepare you. It's truly a "learn on the job" scenario, and no one gets it exactly right all the time. I remember in those early days after our son was born feeling a bit like I was walking through a dreamscape, unsure of what was around each corner, just hoping that I was making the right moves, but almost floating through it all. Could this tiny human really be ours? Was he OK? Were we doing it right? It was at once exhilarating, exhausting, and even terrifying at times! As we slowly got the hang of things, we discovered that once we understood him, his signals, his needs, then things would suddenly change and we seemed to slide back to square one. Enter: Susan Bordon. Oh, what a relief it was when I discovered her group and started taking him there once a week. It was through her teachings and her gentle, understanding, caring ways that I started to feel firmer on my feet as a mother. I grew stronger emotionally, and I know our little boy did too. The interaction he got with other babies, and me with other mothers was the essential piece of the puzzle I'd been missing in my efforts to protect and shield him from the rigors of the outside world. The insightful and informative discussions always left me feeling empowered and I stopped questioning my every move as a mother and began to trust and nurture my instincts. She brought to the fore many topics that I hadn't considered, and offered enlightened points of view that I always loved sharing with my husband, and that we still use and refer to on an almost daily basis. I believe that our son is more self-assured, happier and independent than he would have been had I not learned so much from Susan. I will forever be grateful for her early influence on my life as a mother, and ours as a family unit.
