Jen with my daughter, only hours old at this point!
Pam M.

My husband and I are so grateful that the universe led us to work with Jen. From the very beginning to the absolute end, she was 100% responsive, involved, and supportive. She exudes a warmth, humbleness, and professionalism, all of which were not lost on me or CPMC's tough medical staff. :) She was a confidante, a coach, a cheerleader and a personal nurse, all in one, and I can't imagine my birth without her. Being our first baby and wanting a birth with little medical interventions, Jen was a great fit for us, and assured us that if plans do change, she is supportive and her job is to ultimately advocate for our wishes. Her professional nursing background as well as all her doula experience in SF was especially impressive. And of course, when my plans did change and I ended with an epidural, I expressed embarrassment and failure. Jen was there 100%, reminding me that I am choosing the best choice for me and my daughter. Jen held my hand through the entire birth process from start to finish. She went above and beyond and you can tell she truly loves what she does. My husband and I look back on my birth story with such fondness and love, and a massive part of this was because of Jen. She guided and advocated for me during a time where I am not sure I nor my husband would have been able to do so for myself. I only hope that she will be available for my next birth!

My husband and I initially engaged Jennifer as our doula because we very much wanted a natural birth, with minimal interventions, in a hospital setting. Jen's extensive experience as a labor and delivery nurse (including at UCSF) and as a doula, coupled with her lovely-but-assertive personality, made her an obvious choice for our situation. But then our situation changed, and that's when we found out just how important it is to have a doula like Jen by your side. Long story short, I spent weeks doing everything possible to flip my darling breech daughter, with no avail. Jen was there for us every step of the way, including for hours at the hospital on the day of our (unsuccessful) ECV procedure. As my due date approached, Jen provided just the right kind of support we needed, encouraging me to go with my gut and trust my body and baby in making the final decision about how to proceed. At 39 weeks to the day, and in early labor, I spent 12 hours in the UCSF triage waiting for a cesarean section. Jen stayed at our side that entire long day, gently but firmly advocating for us when needed (e.g. to have various accommodations in the OR for a "family centered" c-section). Thanks to her commitment and the respect she receives from the UCSF staff, we were also able to have her with us in the OR. And while a c-section was not what I had wanted going into this adventure, it was absolutely the right decision in light of what turned out to be a triple nuchal, and our birth experience was beautiful, satisfying, and truly sacred. It was the most joyful experience of my life. Jen does everything possible to meet every couple's needs. For us, that meant providing invaluable emotional support when our birth plan went awry, and also helping us--two people who had never even changed a diaper before last month--prepare for our baby's arrival. I highly recommend Jen, without reservation, to everyone in search of a doula.

Jennifer was a wonderful birthing doula, then great night doula for our son :)

While I was fortunate to have an abundant supply, Katie was always incredibly supportive of whatever path I chose, including transitioning to formula if needed. Her care goes well beyond breastfeeding--she is there to support you with whatever you need. I would recommend Katie to anyone. She is a truly amazing lactation consultant!

The depth of her knowledge, experience, and professionalism is unlike anything I've encountered. She helped me through literally every postpartum breastfeeding challenge I had. She recognized that my baby had reflux and a cow's milk protein allergy before our pediatrician did. She helped me finally get recurrent mastitis under control and, more importantly, taught me how to prevent it from happening again. She guided me through a difficult oversupply, improved my baby's latch, and always had practical, thoughtful solutions. What really sets Katie apart is that everything she recommends is evidence-based. When we discussed different treatment options for mastitis, she even sent me research articles explaining the reasoning behind her recommendations. I never felt like I was just getting generic advice--she took the time to educate me, answer every question, and make sure I understood the reasoning behind everything. Knowing she trained at Cleveland Clinic made so much sense after working with her. Her level of expertise is truly exceptional. I can say without hesitation that working with Katie was one of the best investments I made after having my baby. She is worth every single penny, and I recommend her to every expecting or new mom I know. If you're wondering whether to book with her, do it. I truly don't think you'll find anyone better.

Jordan is young, eager, and incredibly attentive. Throughout every overnight shift, she remained awake and alert, always ready when our daughter needed her. Most importantly, she cared for our baby with the same patience and gentleness we would ourselves, which gave us tremendous peace of mind as new parents. Her reliability was equally impressive. She was consistently punctual, arriving between 10:58 and 11:00 p.m., and was always respectful and ready to help. Trusting someone with your newborn is no small thing. Jordan made that trust easy. I would confidently recommend both Jordan and Doulas by the Bay to my closest friends and family, and we'd happily welcome her back into our home. She started right on the day after delivery while we were still at the hospital. This was incredibly helpful because it allowed my partner to focus on caring for our toddler while I recovered from my C-section and bonded with our newborn. Mary Ann was exceptional in every aspect of newborn and postpartum care. With her background as RN and an experienced nanny, she confidently took charge from day one. She handled everything--from swaddling and keeping the baby on a feeding schedule to making sure I stayed on track with pumping. She always had my pump parts cleaned, sterilized, and ready to use, which made those early weeks so much easier. She also gave me invaluable breastfeeding support. Thanks to her guidance, I established a full milk supply within just three days of my C-section, and I'm still successfully breastfeeding. She also referred us to an amazing lactation consultant who was an absolute game changer. Mary Ann was meticulous about everything baby-related and followed best practices in every detail. Her logging and tracking were incredibly thorough, giving us complete peace of mind. She was professional, respectful, organized, and kept everything spotless. The greatest gift she gave our family was rest. There were moments when it almost felt unreal how much recovery time my partner and I were able to get because we trusted her completely. She would even bring me a glass of iced water wherever I was--a small act of kindness that made a huge difference in my recovery. Because she took care of so much, I was able to focus on postpartum healing and even carve out time for simple self-care, like getting a haircut. Although her primary responsibility was caring for our newborn, she also formed a wonderful bond with our toddler and always made him feel included. She consistently went above and beyond by helping keep our home clean, making countless trips up and down the stairs without ever complaining, and never leaving before everything was tidied up--even if it meant staying a little past the end of her shift. We're incredibly grateful to Doulas by the Bay for matching us with someone who fit our family so perfectly. The agency made the process smooth, and Mary Ann exceeded every expectation we had. We wholeheartedly recommend Doulas by the Bay to any family looking for expert postpartum support. They gave us the gift of rest, confidence, and a much smoother transition into life as a family of four.

With our second we had jaundice and an unplanned trip back to the hospital and Rhona was such a calm, steady presence for me while I got through it. She then came to our house several times after our baby was born. We had a very difficult birth, with several serious complications for both my baby and me, resulting in a week in the NICU for my baby and an extra week in the hospital, including readmission, for myself. We received some lactation support in the hospital, but it paled in comparison to the care and support we received with Caroline. Her advice not only covered breastfeeding, but also in recovering from the physical and emotional trauma of our birth. She also helped me navigate my seemingly low supply and was the only provider to listen to us when we were concerned about our baby's low-ish weight gain. After charting his weight, confirming my output, and checking our baby, she identified that the issue wasn't about supply; our baby had tongue-tie. Even our pediatrician didn't check for this and didn't seem to bat an eye when our baby's weigh was almost the same between two visits that were several weeks apart. After meeting with a specialist and resolving the tongue-tie, our little guy was able to nurse much more efficiently and his weight got back on track.
