Smoking hot group of sweaty people on a brisk morning hill day!

One of my favourite places to workout/run/train/surprise wedding/after party/swim/etc etc etc! I like the central location, being right next to the river for easy access to trail runs, excessive amount of free parking, little random outdoor pool, fun kids playground, huge wide open fields, the list goes on! Again, another great hotspot for viewing all the crazy cats with NP (November Project) running Kinsmen hill every Friday morning! As well as the multitude of other running/training groups that utilize the Kinsmen centre area for meet-ups/gatherings. The inside is nice from what I recall (not having used the building much itself lol). The pool had long lanes which was great for lap swimming, and dive pool looked cool when the swimming team were practicing high dives ‍ I guess this means I should explore the inside a little more when I've exhausted the outdoors awesome weather season haha! Enjoy it while we can!

Wow! Could this outdoor park be any better? From the amazing spray park/splash pad to the outdoor Bear Lodge Park, to the numerous picnic and BBQ sites, this park could not be any more fantastic! We came on a late Saturday afternoon and were surprised to find the green shack (brown bear shack) staffed and games a going! The Bear Lodge playground had multiple playing areas and surfaces from your typical climbing structures, to Christmas tree rope style merry ground, to rope courses and sand areas! Washrooms are available on the green hill behind the playground in addition to the facilities inside Kinsmen recreation centre and the outdoor pool. The spray park had rubber flooring which is always a big hit with my family and lots of water sources and activities to keep kiddos of all ages occupied. The outdoor pool even had a little window through the fence to order snacks and beverages from the poolside snack shack! Kinsmen outdoor park, where have you been all my life?!? I cannot wait to come back!

The Kinsmen Sports Centre is one of the best multi-use recreation centres in the city. It has a large field house with a 2 level track, weight room, volleyball, badminton, squash and tennis courts, and just about everything else a rec centre can boast. The centre also has on site physio therapy available for any injuries you may get working out (or any injury for that fact). One of then nice things is they have a child care centre so you can actually make time for yourself to work out without your kids. They also have fitness training and monitoring as well as numerous classes, both drop-in and registered, to help you with your fitness goals. You can't talk about the Kinsmen without mentioning the pool. The pool was added for the 1983 Commonwealth Games which the City hosted. The pool area has 25m & 50 m swimming pools, warm teaching pool, dive tank, sauna and large observation area. The change rooms are huge so you'll have no worries about elbowing for space. A Running Room is also located here. It's small but if you need gear quickly in order to do you work out you can get it there. I will say the prices are a bit high, but I guess considering the options available for the admission fee you can't complain too much. I'm used to working out at a smaller gym so at times I feel a bit overwhelmed with what's available. Sometimes it's nice to just park in their huge lot and hit the trail network for your workout.

    The big slides!

The park outside the Kinsman Sports Centre is fabulous! There are so many different areas for the kids to play, and they never get bored. They especially love the big slides on the hill. We come back again and again, sometimes with our swimsuits to enjoy the splash park.

Look what I found at the kinsmen!

I mainly went for the pool today. The change room had those lockers that you punch in a 4 digit code and it saves it and locks it for you. Just remember the code and your locker number. They have the typical 25 meter pool and a kid pool with water jets and beach entry. I seen something called a 'lazy river' which looked like a sort of maze you could meander through, which was kind of interesting. I think these are all salt water. I believe I seen another pool as well that looked shallow, but deeper then the kid pool. Theres a hot tub thats actually pretty large. I seen a steam room but it was closed. Additionally I seen a water slide, as well as 3 tiers of diving boards. Its not too shabby for catching a swim but it would be nice if they had a sauna.

It's recently been redone, so everything is in great condition. It's got a lot of pathways lined with plants and grassy areas to wander around. While I wouldn't necessarily describe it as a sculpture garden, there are a number of pieces. Since going to art galleries and museums has fallen on a spectrum from impossible to ill-advised, Borden Park's sculptures gave me a chance to see some art while I'm in Edmonton. The centerpiece of Borden Park is the natural swimming pool. Unfortunately, this is closed for the 2020 summer season. More importantly, the washrooms are also closed for the season. If you have a strong bladder and/or are prepared to pop a squat somewhere (there are plenty of trees and bushes for privacy) there are lots of nice picnic areas. You already have hand sanitizer with you, right? There are some very cool looking playground structures, which are open. There are groups of tables of various sizes, some of which are wheelchair accessible, as well as ample grounds for picnics while conforming to social distancing guidelines. There's a save-on-foods on the other side of the parking lot in case you don't want to carry picnic foods from home.

The pool is constructed to be used for people who have mobility needs among other kinds of disabilities and while the facility is old (you can see the time period wherein it was constructed reflected in the way that the building is set up), it is well maintained and certainly recently renovated. I was quite happy with the pool itself which was reasonably warm, large and inviting. The hot tub isn't as warm as other pools though so that was a bit less than ideal. I liked the set up of the space and the room that we booked for the party was huge and very convenient afterward. It is a bit out of the way (probably requires driving from many areas of town) but there's lots of parking and it is in a beautiful park area.

Due to capacity limits our friends were unable to join us and so we'll have to try again another time to go with friends but this first experience for a public swim was excellent! The toddler really loved the shark shaped flotation device to ride and the waterslide was a hit all around. The little kid slide was good too though it ended in deeper water than the toddler was used to... it was still enjoyable! The pool was very busy which was a bit overwhelming due to the pandemic. The other fitness areas looked good from afar. The family change room was great though the first locker we tried to use didn't work so we had to try another locker to secure our belongings. I liked the fact that the family change room had everyone change in change rooms which is great -- and it really wasn't a family change room but rather an all-gender/all-abilities change room for the pool which is a refreshing change! Having the lockers be free was great too! And the shower was okay. All in all the this changing facility seemed a bit too busy too but otherwise was just fine. I liked the hot tub and the slide. This facility is reasonably well situated for transit accessibility. Parking is tight but there's a great map for alternate areas if the lot is too busy. The in-water climbing wall is interesting, if a little odd. Pool is divided into kids' shallower pool with a few spray features and another for lane swimming, which is probably a good choice. The fitness equipment has moved upstairs, and the running track is suspended over the indoor soccer fields, which given the noise level there will mean runners will not be having any zen running experiences. Or their ipods will be cranked up high. There are a couple of multipurpose rooms right off the entrance area - one set up as toddler play room and another with tables and chairs which will undoubtedly host hundreds of birthday parties a year. The parking lot is quite small so when there are two soccer games on it will be crowded. All in all a very nice upgrade to the neighbourhood.
