This is my most favourite gym! You see athletes who are there for workout and competition only and there is no fashion show! (Unlike a lot of gyms!) You can find a lot of options and you also can book some courts or book time for specific activities! Parking is not a problem and the staff is always nice and helpful. Keltie burns fitness room has a lot of good equipment but the people there have no gym etiquette sit on machines and doom scroll on their phones, it's very dirty the dumb bell racks are filthy with a layer of dirt I never see anyone cleaning and people keep throwing the cleaning cloths on the ground watched the cleaning staff barely dust guess they are protected by the union it's a shame was a great gym about four years ago. read more

They did a bit of a reno and replaced some much needed equipment. The cleaning staff still doesn't do anything, but I guess Winter is hard. The Point of Sale system was down this week, so I could not renew my membership. I have to pay the daily drop in rate and get the system to fix it next week. The website is lax. It doesn't tell you when special groups are booking the swim lanes and hogging them all afternoon. read more

One of my favourite places to workout/run/train/surprise wedding/after party/swim/etc etc etc! I like the central location, being right next to the river for easy access to trail runs, excessive amount of free parking, little random outdoor pool, fun kids playground, huge wide open fields, the list goes on! Again, another great hotspot for viewing all the crazy cats with NP (November Project) running Kinsmen hill every Friday morning! As well as the multitude of other running/training groups that utilize the Kinsmen centre area for meet-ups/gatherings. The inside is nice from what I recall (not having used the building much itself lol). The pool had long lanes which was great for lap swimming, and dive pool looked cool when the swimming team were practicing high dives ‍ I guess this means I should explore the inside a little more when I've exhausted the outdoors awesome weather season haha! Wow! Could this outdoor park be any better? From the amazing spray park/splash pad to the outdoor Bear Lodge Park, to the numerous picnic and BBQ sites, this park could not be any more fantastic! We came on a late Saturday afternoon and were surprised to find the green shack (brown bear shack) staffed and games a going! The Bear Lodge playground had multiple playing areas and surfaces from your typical climbing structures, to Christmas tree rope style merry ground, to rope courses and sand areas! Washrooms are available on the green hill behind the playground in addition to the facilities inside Kinsmen recreation centre and the outdoor pool. The spray park had rubber flooring which is always a big hit with my family and lots of water sources and activities to keep kiddos of all ages occupied. The outdoor pool even had a little window through the fence to order snacks and beverages from the poolside snack shack! Kinsmen outdoor park, where have you been all my life?!? I cannot wait to come back! read more

I absolutely love spending time here. The hours are great and the place is very clean. I never have to wait for machines and they are newer and well kept. I like the type of clientele that frequent Kinsmen, people who are just there to get fit. No ego. They have all sorts of little perks like free lockers near the front desk to keep your valuables, an ice machine, and TVs in the cardio section. The staff has always been good to me and the classes are fun. I don't take advantage of the pool area but I might if they added a hot tub or jacuzzi. You really can't beat the location, it is reachable from anywhere in the city but very accessable to young professionals working downtown or south central. There are quite a few very serious athletes training here and that in itself is pretty good motivation. Keep up the good work Kinsmen! read more

I'm going to try to be objective about this place. Also, I mainly went for the swimming, I can't speak for the other recreational services. I went last evening, it was very busy. Nice big place, must be a riot in the summer. Got my wrist band and made my way to the change room. This place is sort of a maze, if your even half as bad with directions as I yam. You have to pay for the lockers or bring your own lock I guess. They have a drying room, I suppose to avoid bringing water into the change room. Again, this whole place is big, even the change room. I went to the showers and found it was very dirty. Lots of mud and grime on the floor. I suppose because they were so busy. As an added bonus, the showers were ice cold. I was told that you have to look for the hot ones. I was visually wowed by the pools! Good lord! I believe one was an olympic sized pool. They had a diving tank that had multiple diving boards that went higher. It was stupendous! Unfortunately, the public can't use the diving boards during the week. Liability issues and what not. The big pool is off limits to the public too. It sounded like the life guard I spoke too was unsure about other days though. Seemed like a bummer to waste all that space....I was stoked for deeper water. They also have "warm up" swimming lanes/ pool. Its a bit warmer than the bigger pools. Unfortunately, the warm up pool is shallow. They are long lanes, so thats a plus ! I got a good work out. They have a kiddie pool as well. Lastly, they have a Sauna, which is great! It was awkwardly far from the pool. Down a hall way to the left of the Mens room. It seemed to not be heating up properly though. No hot tub, what's up with that?! No steam room either. I feel like this place has a few issues that could be easily resolved. It certainly cuts the mustard for getting a good work out. I'll be back, hoping to hit that diving board. read more

The Kinsmen Sports Centre is one of the best multi-use recreation centres in the city. It has a large field house with a 2 level track, weight room, volleyball, badminton, squash and tennis courts, and just about everything else a rec centre can boast. The centre also has on site physio therapy available for any injuries you may get working out (or any injury for that fact). One of then nice things is they have a child care centre so you can actually make time for yourself to work out without your kids. They also have fitness training and monitoring as well as numerous classes, both drop-in and registered, to help you with your fitness goals. You can't talk about the Kinsmen without mentioning the pool. The pool was added for the 1983 Commonwealth Games which the City hosted. The pool area has 25m & 50 m swimming pools, warm teaching pool, dive tank, sauna and large observation area. The change rooms are huge so you'll have no worries about elbowing for space. A Running Room is also located here. It's small but if you need gear quickly in order to do you work out you can get it there. I will say the prices are a bit high, but I guess considering the options available for the admission fee you can't complain too much. I'm used to working out at a smaller gym so at times I feel a bit overwhelmed with what's available. Sometimes it's nice to just park in their huge lot and hit the trail network for your workout. read more

Kinsmen Sport Centre can feel like a step back in time, with the date exterior and locker rooms. But what really matters is the equipment and activity space. I never have any issues with find space to work out, or even a access to the weightlifting rack. I also never have issues finding a ladies lifting bar. There's lot to do at Kinsmen, from running the track, playing tennis or badminton, racquetball, swimming, to the typical cardio machines and weightlifting areas. There's also a pool, and gymnastics area. read more

I've only ever used the pool here not the other gym area. The whole building is clean and modern. Lots of open spaces and windows to see through to the pool area. There is a viewing area is huge for those with kids in the diving class or competitive swimming. There is also a mini viewing area when using the baby pool. Which is where you'll find me and my wee girl. Sometimes pools are kinda cold and I find we are chittering by the time we get to the showers. But here the pool temperature and the room temperature are just right and I really enjoy my time here. They have toys for you to use and help your children enjoy the water. This is such a popular swimming pool. Every time I go the place is busy with lessons, which is great! I love seeing the place booming. Luckily the training or baby pool is always quiet. The staff are lovely and very helpful. read more

I've had a membership at the Kinsmen Center for about a year and a half and I love it. I only go during off hours, and never during the peak after work hours so I can't speak to how busy it is then. When I am there there is no waiting for machines, and you don't have to scour the change-room for an open locker. The gym has a nice selection of machines and free weights, and the pools are fantastic. I think the badminton courts are the best in the city by a lot, and the tennis courts are great too. The Kinsmen Center is not without flaws however. There are treadmills in only 1 location, and a few have seen better days. The same few get used all the time while a few others are always vacant. Putting a few good ones in open spots around the upper track would be nice for people wanting a little more seclusion. There is no hot tub. There is however a teach pool that is warmer than the regular pool, but I'm not sure if it's designed that way, or it's warmer because all the little kids are peeing in there. Change-room: A lot of the 26 shower heads seem to have the same issue of spraying out in all directions and have little pressure. I find I use the same 2 or 3 every time, and it seems most use the same ones. Of course, if I never again see old men with one foot up on the bench, their flabby junk flopping around, chatting with one another instead of putting on some underwear it would still be too soon. I like the Kinsmen. It's my go-to city gym. You can't beat the price -- I pay less than $50 a month. But there's definitely a trade-off for the price, since the facilitate is very busy during peak hours. I find the best time to go and work out is after 7 or 8 pm. Otherwise the weight rooms are full of people who really like to grunt and sweat. You'll always seem something hilarious happening here. The other day I saw four giant dudes lifting weights and taking pictures of it. It was weird. If you're friends with these dudes, I'm sure you'll see these pictures on Facebook soon. Besides that, the Kinsmen's a decent gym. Usually pretty clean, and if you go there on during off peak hours, you can get some quality work out time to yourself. read more

I work out here 5 times a week to offset the food monkey on my back. They lowered their monthly rate last year and this month it went back up to $50 a month with direct withdrawal. Staff is not friendly, which I prefer as I am not there to socialize. Equipment is plentiful and I never have to wait and there are tv's in the cardio area. You are not going to see the beautiful people here nor meet your next fling, but you will get an expansive facility with ample parking and lots to do. read more

The one stop shop for all things fitness! Not the newest of all sport centres but definitely able to accommodate whatever your needs are. I was there for heavy lifting (legs) and some functional training. Their new functional training centre (FTC) is brilliant. Big tractor tires, wires, kettle bells, big weights, and more. It has everything you need to escape the machine focused weight room near the pool. I see a personal trainer in their private studio 4 days a week but when I need something more dynamic then this is the place to go. It is always busy with classes for kids, it's got everything including courts. It's also a city facility so it is maintained pretty darn well. read more

The Kinsmen sport is one of my most frequently go-to gym because it is very close to my house. It is a fully equipped and multi-purpose gym. (which is why they called it a sport center) Pros: There is something for everyone. There are several swimming pool for different purposes. Badminton and tennis courts. weight rooms, running tracks, etc Running room is also attached. The centre also offers great fitness and sports programs if you are looking for a challenges or some extra motivation such as boot camps, kickboxing, Pilates, yoga, triathlon training, kettle bell, personal training and etc. The price is also very reasonable. There are ample parking space and they are free! Cons: There are not enough treadmills! Some of them belong to the antique shop. There are a few, maybe 2-3 "better" ones that are always occupied. With such large facility with only approx 12 treadmills is a little ridiculous. They are also cornered on the upper running track. That space is not well ventilated either. During peak times, you can almost never find a vacant treadmill and the corner stinks. It is located on the south of the river valley. To get to, you have to drive from 109st and down toward the lower 105st bridge to get to Kinsmen. For someone like me who live on the southside, to get home, There is no other way but to drive across the bridge to downtown and take 97 ave left then back on to the 109st bridge. It's like taking a big detour and traffic can be very bad near the tuner traffic light. Do check the pool schedule as there is not always room for public swimming or lane swim. Because there are so many other activities going on. I was kicked off the pool twice because there were swim practices and games and such. If you go during peak times or ""school times" you will share the facility with all kinds of people such as screaming kids, naked old ladies and groups of teenagers and etc, which is not pleasant especially in the change room. In short, if you are looking for something active for your whole family. or just an affordable place to workout, or doing sports with friends. I would highly recommend Kinsmen. However, if you prefer "quality or quite" workout sessions with newer equipment and nice change room facilities, and is willing to pay a few more bucks, go for something else. To me, gym is all about location location location. read more

Amazing facility, instructors and classes. I have been working out here for over 20 years and have seldom had an issue. I was wondering if the temperature in the functional training centre area could be turned down. The entire field house might be kept at a temperature of 19°. However in the corner where the functional training centre is the temperature is quite a bit above that. Is there anyway that this can be moderated? It might help to fix the fan that is on the wall by the staircase or perhaps place more fans in the functional training centre area. Thanks! Erin read more

I have been going to this gym for 2 years now, and I have never ever had a problem with the facility, staff or anything. I find it to be nice and quiet in the mornings (yay) and there's no intimidation, no divas, no muscleheads. Everyone is there for the same purpose, and it's always nice seeing the "gym folks" on a regular basis. The hours are great for mornings, or evening workouts, and the pools are well maintained. This place has helped me get back into shape, and will continue to do so. read more

This is a really great place to go work out, swim or go to exercise classes. I used to work out here a lot more but I moved farther away so it now feels too far to go. They have 3 different pools here: a wading hot pool, a lane swimming/splish splash pool and a deep end diving pool. They have a lot of different diving boards for the diving pool, and when I didn't have a fear of heights and I was younger, I enjoyed jumping off the high diving boards. Other than swimming, this place has a pretty decent gym - nothing special in my mind- Just a regular old gym. I really like their exercise classes. I went to a step class here once and the instructor was super motivated and seemed to really enjoy her job. Downstairs there are also running tracks and places for indoor games as well. I really miss coming to Kinsmen more because it really is one of the best recreational facilities in the city. read more

Kinsmen is a good place to work out. I personally think it's great if you want to go swimming. Many swimmers come here to get in some practice and become better at what they do. At Kinsmen you will find a few different pools. One for lane swimming and a diving pool. As far as I know this is one of the only diving pools in the city and they have a few different heights you can dive from. Kinsmen also offers a gym, tracks, volleyball & tennis courts and they also offer a few different workout classes. It's a decent place to work out but it is really good when it comes to swimming. read more

This is my regular gym where I try to visit 3-5 times a week and the facilities are great in some areas and poor in others. I have been to many other sport centers in the city (including Terwillegar, Mill Woods, and Commonwealth) so I'm able to compare this to similar facilities. I try to go mid morning but have come anywhere from 8am-close and generally mid afternoon and later is pretty horrible for getting a treadmill or bike. Even coming mid morning we are lucky if we end up getting a badminton court. They have 11 treadmills with at least one not working every time I come and only 3 badminton courts which are always full, yet they have 3 tennis courts which rarely have people on them. The pool facility is large and I've never had a problem getting a lane but the teach pool is pretty small and when my kids had lessons here, it was a bit cramped with 5 classes using the pool at the same time. So, my only major complaint is that they have a lot of space in this complex, but by trying to be everything for everybody, every inch of the available space is reserved for a certain activity whether or not it's being used for that activity. I guess it just irks me to pay for a membership, drop in to do a certain activity and not know if I can do it until I get there. read more

I have been going to drop in fitness classes over the last 6 months. The variety of class is great and instructors are enthusiastic and knowledgable. Prices are reasonable. I usually purchase a 5 class pass which comes out to $8 a class. You aren't able to find many instructed classes for that price, plus you get the use of the facility as well. read more

I come here primarily to swim and the pools are great. However, the new format of the lane schedule is very cumbersome to go through. I used to be able to look at the pool schedule and see at a glance how many lanes were available on any given date and time. Now, I must scroll through a lengthy document. It's inconvenient and is by no means an improvement. If whoever designed the new schedule format couldn't come up with anything better, it should have just been left as it was. read more

Kinsmen really improved their game. They have a functional area (complete with bumper plates and you can use chalk). No ego. Something for everyone (from people just wanting to improve their health to functional athletes). Much less ego than your typical gym. It has everything from powerlifting/olympic weights, track, swimming pool and basketball court. Only thing I would recommend is to renovate the washroom/showers and have one more squat/deadlift platform. read more

Was in town on business, wanted to go for a swim.. nice complex - pool was decent and wasnt busy at all so great to have the entire lane to myself! A couple minor things i didnt like - $8 for entry, totally too much considering i was there less than an hour.. and the lockers are $0.50, without a refund when you come back! Two indoor tracks (200m/250 m), spin area, functional fitness, weights galore, basket ball court, tennis courts, Olympic size pool and diving platforms the list goes on...Nestled in the river valley it also provides a great start to explore the trails on foot or cycle. For those looking for a centrally located baby friendly pool facility, Kinsmen is your place! I've taken my little one to City of Edmonton registered swimming lessons, but the teach pool (and their others) is open for drop ins as well. The teach pool there is between waist and chest height, has a sitting ledge on one side, and best of all, is WARM! It's like being in a giant bath, which is not only less scary for babies, it's also more pleasurable for the parents who have to accompany the babies to their lessons, too ;) There is a small bleacher area at the side and there is room to leave strollers or car seats. The change rooms are baby friendly too! There is a private family change room if you want more room and privacy, but the regular womens change room has a crib as well as tons of broad benches to change your baby or leave your baby (attended!) while you're changing. Plus there are both pay per use, rental and day use lockers. Tons of free parking is also great! Staff has always been helpful and courteous. I will definitely continue coming as drop in after our lessons end. read more

This place needs a reno pretty soon. The pool looked good from afar, but I used the gym/fitness equipment. The area had some newer equipment but was a bit tight. It was air conditioned thankfully. However, the rest of the building is really warm and humid (I suspect because of the pool). The stretching area is outside the fitness centre and is crazy hot. Some of the kettlebells, weights and other fitness stuff in that area looked dusty and like it had seen better days. There's big locker rooms and a good sized parking lot, but this building needs an upgrade from the 80s to bring it into this century. read more

Yes its that good, I am an avid simmer so the swimming facilities are perfect..the olympic pool is good, the issue could be during summer hours cause schools out and theres usually summer camps and such, so it can get pretty full. I have swam at other places like Millenium in the park, but Kinsmen is by far alot better. I have used the gym there also its smaller but gets the job done. read more

This gym is great especially if you're a lane swimmin'/strength training double threat such as myself. I bring gear for both and then assess which area is busier before I delve in. I do wish sometimes that there was more strength training areas or possibly a ladies only area. There's been a couple times where major bro dudes have asked to sub in on my sets and then proceed to do like 15 sets.... Ummm that's not right, I always grumble to myself. The pool is awesome and has ruined me for 25 metre pools! They just seem too short! And most of the time, besides 6pm, there's plenty of space available. I wish there was a super awesome hottub cuz the tepid kiddie pool just doesn't cut it when you got the muscle aches. When you really look at how many things/classes/areas are available at kinsmen is hard to not love it tho. Hmm what else? I love the Moo's place and it actually has decent nutritious options available! read more

Staff is very unprofessional. Today i worked out till 10:30 pm cause i came slightly late, and all i had left was some stretching. So i figured i will just stretch quick and leave. Just a minute after 10:30 this grumpy old guy comes on his floor cleaner and told me to get the hell out of the gym cause its already late and he wont tolerate it. So i tell him i just need two more minutes to finish. He answers no following with a get out now. What kind of an establishment is that very strange. If you go to a restaurant and you end up staying a bit late they wont kick you out. This old grumpy dude fails to realize that the customers are the ones who are paying for their wages. I have never encountered something like this before, no customer should be treated like that. If i could have given ZERO stars i would of for sure. read more

I know this may seem a little silly to do a review on but if I can do one about Alberta Registry then I can do one about Kinsmen Sports Center. This is my favorite place to work out at. They have an indoor track so you can do some walking or running. If you want to play volleyball or tennis you can grab a court and play your heart out. There is also a little work out area by the track so you can grab a machine and run or walk. They have different kinds of work out classes that you can drop in on; the hip- hop one is really great (I'm not sure if they still have it, I believe it runs only during times of the year). They also have a larger gym area with lots of machines. The best part is the hot tub and swimming pools they have. You can join the diving club since they have a pool diving that has externally high diving boards. You can swim labs in the pools or even take swimming lessons. I believe you only need to pay the standard walk in fee and then you can have access to most of the areas. You can pick up a membership card that let's you swipe your way though the gates and you can refill it when it's running low. The girls behind the desk are really nice and patient. They were nice enough to let my friend retake her membership card picture like three or four times. read more

The facilities are great and the staff are friendly. However, issues within the gym are never resolved. There's been a heat issue in the upper track for a couple months now and there has been many complaints and the response is always the same how it's going to fluctuate during cold times. It's a gym and indoors it's not necessary for it to be above 19 degrees. There has been a comment of someone having a headache due to the heat so you'd think they'd lower it. Myself and others have walked out due to the heat in this area too. Please turn the heat down or fix it cause it's ridiculous. There's heat literally pouring into the far side of the upper track. This is a gym.. not a hot yoga studio. Also, many of the lockers downstairs don't work. The response has been "issue has been resolved". No it hasn't they're still broken. Please start listening to the issues and come up with solutions cause this is unreal. read more

I have only used the fitness center but I really enjoy it. Unlike other gyms I find the atmosphere less intimidating as there are people of all shapes and sizes and ages and you really can't beat the price with no contracts. A lot of different machines and weights. I like the new curve treadmils for cardio, you can burn so many calories in less time, the track is also great. Only 50 cents for a locker or you have the option to bring your own lock. Water machine makes ice which is really nice and there are water fountains everywhere. read more

The facility seems ok, but I beg of the management: PLEASE CLEAN THE FIELD HOUSE! Within minutes of running, our whole league starts coughing and it will stay with you for days. Change some filters and maybe hire a cleaning crew to come in and give the place a real cleaning once in awhile. This place will make you sick- literally. read more
