buddy of mine brought me here over the weekend and all i can say is "wow." my only experience with meat pies before this weekend has been with various Jamaican restaurants in Dallas so I'd come to expect a certain type of meat pie, but this was totally different, welcomed change from the norm. the meat is seasoned very well and would go great with anything, but when paired with the absolutely delicious shell, its outstanding. the shell has a taste and texture that reminds me of a cross between a chicken pot pie puff pastry shell, and a fresh baked buttermilk biscuit. Flaky, buttery, chewy, yet still somehow staying rather light in its flavor and how it actually settles. Most pastries leave me feeling weighed down, but somehow this did not.
Other items we had were the beef suya which while surprisingly spicy, was a great treat, a plantain snack that was salty, spicy and sweet, and another snack called chinchin which i believe is probably made from APF, water, sugar and possibly eggs. Anyway, that was pretty solid too.
Overall, between the service and the food, this place is a 5-star in my book. read more
