Wow this is some of the best fish I have ever had. I wish there were a more reliable way to know the menu in advance and call to place an order. Note there is no sit in option, everything is to go. Also the menu doesn't feature prices and I find it a bit on the pricey side. I showed up around 530p on a Friday and thankfully beat the line. I then hung out in the area for about an hour before the food was ready. So it felt like a hassle just to get the food but one I got it I devoured it! The place is take-out only and very minimal and the wait is long, but once you get past that, you will be rewarded with some absolutely sensational Jamaican cuisine. I went there to get a jerk chicken, which they happened to be out of (how can a Jamaican restaurant possibly be out of jerk chicken??'!!). But, that said, I ordered jerk wings instead along with the mac-and-cheese and, let me tell you, both were as good as they get. The wings were large and the jerk sauce was very assertively flavorful and very spicy (in a good way!). The mac-and-cheese was terrific, as well, with just the right amount of crispness and cheesiness in each bite. I visited Kingston 11 back in September 2023. It is in an interesting area of Philly. You have to press a buzzer to be let inside of the restaurant. We took our time deciding on what to order, and I ended up ordering the 8-piece fried chicken with rice and peas and mac and cheese. The chicken and mac and cheese were very salty. The food itself was good, and I would visit it again... if it weren't for the price. My meal alone was $35, which was shocking considering my fiancé's oxtail meal was only $30. Normally, oxtail is the one of the most expensive items on a Jamaican restaurant's menu, so that pricing was off and shocking. Because the prices are not listed anywhere we only knew the price when the cashier was tallying everything up. My fiancé's father ordered the same meal as me, and our total for THREE takeout meals came to $100. For that price, I expected something exceptional, and while the food was solid, it was not worth the cost. I'm also seeing that other customers paid less for meals similar to mine, which is confusing and disheartening. The portion sizes also could be larger for that cost, I was still a little hungry after eating my meal. On top of that, the wait time was terrible. We waited in the car for about 50 minutes. I guess a plus is that the food is made to order, but I didn't feel comfortable waiting that long in an area where you have to buzz just to get into the restaurant. We had actually tried to call ahead to place our order, because we had a 30 minute drive from the part of Philly that we were in, but we were told we had to come in person to order and pay first. If we had been able to pre-order, the long wait would have been easier to deal with. Overall, Kingston 11 has good food, but the pricing definitely does not make me want to revisit. Ok first off: the wait is RIDICULOUS. We ordered at 6:45, was told it would be ready at 7:30, which is what time my husband arrived. Guess what time it was ready??? 9pm!!! Out of control. My girlfriend , after seeing the Instagram posts , was not leaving without getting a platter, so she kept knocking on the door and peering in until someone came and unlocked the door. The restaurant is small, very clean and you can see the cook cooking .... I love that . I'm assuming they got off to a late start because most of the menu items were not available for purchase ... which was a bummer. The only thing ready at that time were oxtails, which we ordered. The platter was huge and the food (oxtails, cabbage, rice and beans) were delicious. We also purchased the largest slice of strawberry cake I've ever seen and that was delicious. I would consider coming back, but I would arrive MUCH later in the day, just to give them the opportunity to have more dishes prepared. One thing I would like to point out before reviewing the food is how nice the workers are at the front. Kingston11 is a booming business esp with the recent review and its only right they got bombarded from walk-ins to phone orders. Nevertheless, the two people upfront were very courteous even when customers were giving them attitudes about the wait time. So kudos to them. Process: Initially, i thought it's best to call and order to avoid the lines but I think they just recently change the process. You can call to order and they'll give you an order number but your food wont be prepared until you get there and pay. In a way, you cannot avoid wait time. For my first time here, I ordered oxtail but they ran out so I opt for Jerk Chicken with rice and beans and my two sides were cabbage and yams. Once your food is ready they will open the platter to let you see and making sure thats the correct order (smart). I honestly like everything I had starting from the cabbage to the rice and the jerk chicken. Chicken was crispy and flavorful, you can smell and taste the smokiness. My friend ordered honey jerk wings with mac and cheese and I only tried the mac and it was moist-could be a little more cheesy for my taste. It's been a while since I have a good, solid Jamaican food, so this was def fulfilling. The only reason this place was missing a star is bc in my platter I found 2 strands of hair. Oh boy where do I start!! First of all there needs to be a revamp of service and how orders are taken because the method they have is outrageous and unorganized. Second it is beyond me that the establishment is open until 10 but runs out of food around 5ish. Like when you are getting low on specific menu items why are you not taking note of that and making more before you run out for the dinner rush? I do not live in Philly and this is my second time stopping by this establishment while in the area. I follow them on IG and their food always looks really good. They do not take phone orders nor is online ordering available so you literally have to go and order your food. They have a policy that only a few ppl are allowed to come in at a time and once you order you have to step out and they will call when your order is ready. I came around 5 something and they were literally telling people they were out of 80% of the menu and some stuff would take around 25-30 minutes. The establishment is small so I understand them not wanting a large crowed of people but again they need to figure something out because during the winter it's too cold to be waiting for a long time to order and honestly during summer on super hot days I feel the same. Oh if you call over the phone to ask questions they are kinda rude. I heard people saying they called to see what was on the menu and they got hung up on and I witnessed one of the girls answer the phone and I could tell someone was asking if they had something specific and she said no and just hung up. Anyway when I finally did get to order I asked about the sticky wings or fried chicken and they were out of wings and she said it would take probably over 25 minutes for the fried chicken. So I opted to get the jerk salmon which on IG I see rice and two sides but they were out of all rice and apparently you would have to pay for it anyway. I got Mac n cheese and cabbage with the Salmon. I placed my order and when to sit in my car until they called because I was not standing in the cold. After about 15 minutes I got the call and went in to get my food. They do show you your platters before you leave to make sure it's accurate because they have several signs that state once you leave they will not refund anything. I got home and my food was still warm and I was so hungry so I dived in. The jerk salmon was really good and flavorful. The cabbage was decent and had good flavor and my Mac n cheese was dry as ever despite when I see them post on their IG page that looks all creamy and cheesy. I guess I got the dry batch. This review is based on all aspects and not just the food. I'm from the Caribbean and sometimes I get moody and my homesick and my husband tries to make me feel better by bringing me food from different Caribbean restaurants in the area. Today we tried this place and I have to admit the stewed chicken (and my husband, of course) helped raise my spirits. This place is unassuming but once you're inside, there's jamaican music videos playing on the television. The service is relatively quick and the staff friendly. They do not skimp on the amount they give you...hefty portion sizes (I like to think of myself as a bottomless pit and I had to refrigerate my box to attack the rest tomorrow). I got some macaroni pie, stewed chicken and rice and beans. The rice and beans were just ok, made better by the stewed chicken gravy. I loved the macaroni and the stewed chicken and would recommend. I also decided to try the strawberry crunch cake...because it was right their on their counter and bright pink (I'm basically a child and couldn't resist). Was a lot more moist than I was expecting, the mild crunch comes from something on top (that reminded me of fruity pebbles)...a large slice also. My husband tried the macaroni, yams and honey jerk wings. He's still talking about those yams hours later and his wings looked so juicy I had to steal a bite. Ahhhhh another restaurant that played me by delicious instagram posts. I've been drooling at their food online for some time now. My friend and I realized that they're now on Ubereats and felt like it was our time to try them out. This is a 2.5 rating but ya know yelp doesn't do half stars and I couldn't push it to 3. The menu on Ubereats is limited, he wanted oxtails and they weren't listed. He went with the honey jerk wings that look really good on instagram. The prices are a bit steep, I wanted to try the jerk salmon but not willing to pay $25 for the platter so we decided to share one. I got sides and he'd have the chicken and rice. Our order was honey jerk wings rice and peas and cabbage (these are sides included, there is an up charge for Mac which is ridiculous) $15.85 an order of Mac and cheese $4.50 plantains $4. We ordered at 7:30p, this is important because with restaurants like this one ordering late is risky as they run out of things. I think we were victim to this, the food seemed like they scrapped the end of the pans for our platter. The bad: Rice and peas TERRIBLE the short grain rice was undercooked and starchy there were THREE peas (beans) total so I'm thinking we just got white rice. Mac and cheese not horrible but very bare minimum we actually added cheese to make it taste better. The plantains did NOT arrive they were left out although we paid for them. The Good: the cabbage was PHENOMENAL, so delicious and the best thing we got, I wanted more. Like I'd order a pan of this stuff, so good.
