Disappointed. The only really good item I had this time was the soul roll (mac n' cheese, bbq sauce, collard greens in an egg roll). The sweet potato donuts were dark as opposed to the orange color when I last ordered them. They weren't totally burnt, so they were still edible and the same flavor, but they weren't as great as I remembered. The fried chicken fried rice was heavily seasoned with ginger, and ginger is potent. It overpowered the rice that already had a dry consistency. The chicken chunks were dry too. My first trip here, I recalled they were juicy and flavorful. This time some pieces were so dry that I could have choked. I hate wastefulness and wanted to eat more, but wound up tossing about a fourth of my container. My husband's wings had some kind of glaze but the wings themselves lacked seasoning. This all was about $30, so it wasn't a cheap eat at all to be tasting the way it did. My husband picked up the order and said the staff were cussing loudly, complaining about their pay while another staff member was on her phone. He was shocked by the lack of professionalism. He also said there was no soap in the bathroom for customers. This really surprised me because I thought the staff there was great when I last went and the facilities were prepped and clean. This feedback is not to be hurtful to the business, especially not a unique Black business like this that I want to see thrive. The ingredients did not taste fresh. The salmon egg roll was mostly cheese. Albeit a decent flavor, it lacked actual salmon. I spent the day in Philadelphia and this was one of my targeted spots to visit. I couldn't leave without trying the oxtail lo mein. I was very pleased to find that there was ample parking available on the street. I placed my order online, and by the time I arrived, I had a very short wait. Very clean establishment. I believe there are a few counter stools available to sit at. I was taking my order to go, as I had to commute back to Connecticut, so I did not get to eat my lo mein right away. I also ordered a jerk chicken egg roll and the Crab Rangoons. I didn't get a picture of the jerk chicken egg roll because it vanished pretty quickly. It was perfectly seasoned And very convenient to eat while on the go. The Crab Rangoons were delicious, probably the best I've ever had with the pimento cheese addition. It comes with a sweet potato sauce. The sauce had good flavor, but the Crab Rangoon were great on their own. I finally made it back to Connecticut several hours later and needless to say after that trip, I wasn't hungry. But the next day when I reheated my oxtail lo mein it was absolutely phenomenal. The portion is very substantial so much so that I had more than next day. The flavor nor the texture were not compromised. It was everything in one, effortless oxtails, pulled from the bone and noodles in a very savory gravy. Highly recommend. I visited Black Dragon a few weeks ago. There were about eight people ahead of me, and I waited over 30 minutes outside in line. Once inside, it took another 30 minutes to get my food. I ordered the fried chicken fried rice and sweet potato donuts. The portion of chicken was generous, with good flavor, nicely seasoned but not overdone. The rice, however, was decent but lacked flavor and wasn't particularly memorable. The sweet potato donuts, while large and reasonably priced, could've been sweeter. I decided to give it another try. This time, there were only a few people ahead of me, and I went inside since no one was outside. After a few minutes, one of the workers asked three of us, including myself, to wait outside because there were too many people in the building. I don't know why I didn't expect the restaurant to be the regular Chinese store esthetic that you would find in any city. But I love that about it. There were about four orders ahead of mine. I ordered : cheesesteak egg roll , soul roll, small Mac n cheese, shrimp fried rice, and general Roscoe's chicken. There is only window seating and it is small inside so we decided to eat the food at my friend's house. The drive was about 18 minutes and the food was not hot but still warm. The Mac and cheese was good. The soul roll was filled with Mac n cheese, bbq chicken, and collard greens ( my favorite of everything ordered). I love shrimp fried rice and I will say the portion was great, the shrimp were not tiny, but the taste profile ( for me) is okay. I haven't had an experience this poor in quite a while. How is the Chinese spot that boast Chinese fusion out of fried rice? There are three cooks back there and no one can fry rice? Also, no dumplings? Still we made the best of it. The wait was ridiculous for a slow Friday night. The cashier was all over the place. She's on the phone, can't keep order numbers straight, and poorly packing orders. At one point the cooks looked at us and said "what are they waiting for?" That's when the cashier realized and started packing our order. She still managed to leave out some of the order. Now we are at home with a partial order, dry oxtail Rangoon, and oxtail lomein that is cold, has little to no oxtail, and is only 3/4 full in the container. I decided to try this spot after seeing some Instagram reviews. It's literally on the corner of the block, and when I walked in, the place was clean and not too crowded. I was there with a friend, and we got our food pretty quickly. We ordered the collard green egg roll, and wow--paired with the mango sauce, it was amazing! We also got the cabbage rolls, but unfortunately, they weren't good at all; I even had to spit it out, which was disappointing because I usually love cabbage. The oxtail lo mein was decent, but it could use a bit more seasoning on the oxtail. The seafood fried rice was really good, though! The mac and cheese, however, could definitely use some improvement--I'm hoping for better next time. We also tried the sweet potato dessert; it was okay, but not outstanding. Finally, I got the hibiscus drink, but it was way too sweet--I had to add water to it at home to make it more enjoyable. First, kudos to the team! They're operating in a small space with a lot of demand 4 days in and I felt it was pretty seamless. Every staff member I encountered today was pleasant-appreciate that! From walk up to food in the car took me about an hour and a half. For a new business with a lot of hype, felt reasonable to me. Give them grace, y'all! To the food- Gumbo lo mein : 10/10 This was gooood and had a good amount of shrimp and chicken sausage, as well as a whole crab. *chefs kiss* Crab rangoon: 7/10 This just wasn't what I expected. It was filled with real crab meat, salted and seasoned. Go for this if you want something savory, not sweet. I found them a little too salty, but the sauce helped. Oxtail rangoon: 9/10 My girlfriend tore these up! I didn't taste them, but she described them as slightly sweet and tender. Yaka Mein: 6/10 By the time I got this home, the soft boiled egg was hard boiled so that affected my rating. Broth was just okay. Collard Green Egg Roll: 9/10 Greens were good! Only thing keeping it from being a 10 is the texture of the egg roll. It was a little soft/soggy. Chrysanthemum Lemonade: 10/10 Tastes like it's name and it was good! BUT, getting to the dining activity is not for the faint of heart. The shop is on the corner of a residential street opposite a hospital. Good luck finding parking on the street. Then I had to wait in line in the store for 10 plus minutes to ask for my prepaid order. Fortunately it wasn't a hot evening and the hungry crowd was patient, but simmering. At the counter were the slowest attendants I have ever encountered. While I enjoyed the food, I am amazed that this place is still in business, since it was good, but NOT worth the aggravation or the elevated price, which is a shame because with a better location and better service staff, this place could be great. The store experience is the typical take out experience except the kitchen sometimes gets backed up to the point where they stop taking orders. At that point, you will have to wait until they start taking orders again. The food is on the saltier side but the wings were pretty good. read more

Not sure what the hype is about. I purchased a pu pu platter to sample a little bit of everything: Rangoon - crab + oxtail. Chicken fried rice. Dumpling - mac & cheese + curry cabbage. Curry steak skewer. Soul Roll. Not at all impressed and I won't be returning. Everything basically was greasy and salty. A bunch of sauces came with platter but had no idea what went with what. Where do I start? Placing my order was easy, I waited 50 minutes for my food, and when I got it, my soulfood egg rolls were missing. I spoke with the cashier about my egg rolls, welp smh she forgot to add them to my order, I waited another 6 minutes and left, so you do the math of my wait time. When I arrived home, I begin to check my food out, I ordered the roscoe general chicken, which was disgusting, the chicken had to be super old, it was hard as a brick, and the white rice was super sticky, I instantly discarded, my next item was the shrimp fried rice, it was very bland, large shrimp with no flavor at all to the trash it went. The only think I e joyed were the soul food eggs rolls, very tasty and flavorful. I spent around 62 bucks with a decent tip of 8 dollars just for my order being taken. This was my first time visiting this place, and it will be my last. I'm an advocate of first impression,should always be your best impression, but apparently this food joint don't follow such. Tik Tok led the way in encouraging us to check this spot out on a Friday evening. The line wasn't out the door as stated in other reviews, but I can see how that could happen. It's pretty small inside, pretty much every still was taken but we all fit quite comfortably. There's also space outside of folx don't want to wait inside. The menu is a lot of fun, but we were quite disappointed with our menu items. We tried the Soul Egg roll and the Collard green egg roll. I enjoyed both, but the roll was missing the crispiness and crunch of traditional Chinese takeout egg rolls. The cheesesteak egg roll was a different story. Took one bite of this and put it down. There's plenty of cheesesteak egg rolls in the city that are far better, you don't need to try this one! The Lomein noodles were thick and doughy, but the gumbo lomein came with an entire crab which was pretty neat. The entire dish also included about 5-6 shrimp and 1 piece of sausage. Mac n cheese was pretty basic. Salmon fried rice was pretty tasty and a pretty large serving size.
