I wanted to like this place but I've decided that is impossible. Only come here if you want to be ignored by too cool for you acting staff. This place charges much more than your typical barbershop but fails to deliver the service or expertise that the price should command. The guy who's been cutting my hair for the past couple of years left Hollow Ground (excellent shop on Bloor) to open up his own spot at College and Bathurst. Not as close to my hood as before, but I will make the extra trip down here and maybe get some Sneaky Dee nachos after my appointment. The shop just opened up a few weeks ago, so it's a work in progress. The space is huge and they have about six antique chairs ready to go. I got to sit in the first chair which has a great view of College Street through a fairly large window. Nice TV hanging from the ceiling, classic funk and soul beats on the radio. Definitely makes for a good hair-cutting vibe. I can already tell a lot of work and love have gone into this place thus far, considering I think it used to be a questionable massage parlour (I could be wrong on that). They have great-looking mirrors, beautiful chairs, and lots of classic barbershop tools. Solid place to get a cut or shave. Quality work. And you get a Blow Pop when you pay at the cashier. I tried this place finally since it's close to where I live and have walked by it many times. I wanted to like this place too but after waiting half and hour with employees who pretend you don't exist I can't. I finally had to walk up to them and say something before they took me in. All of this could have been overlooked if they gave an amazing haircut but sadly the guy didn't deliver. I told him to take just a tiny bit off the top but he took almost 3 inches off and told him just a bit of a trim on the back and left me with almost nothing! He had me facing opposite sides of the mirror for most of the time so I couldn't see the progress being made...he was also quite rough while cutting my hair and was talking and cussing to another barber next to him. (He didn't even attempt to start a convo with me). I was very unimpressed by his behavior as it was very unprofessional! That being said the haircut I got isn't terrible but definitely not worth $27! Most I would pay would be $17 for it! So my verdict is there are much better barbers you can go to in the area for much cheaper!! read more

I came here a few months ago for a beard trim and it was great. Then today it felt like the barber gave up half way through the trim, cut way too much off. She must've known she screwed up because she sent me on my way quickly. Too bad. Lost a good month of beard growth. And it's uneven. I can't believe I tipped. read more

Love bringing my dude here for his monthly groom-ups! His beard and long hair can get quite rugged and sometimes crosses the line into making him look a touch dumpstery, but the Barbers at Kings always snazzy him up real nice. They truly do an awesome job on trimming and shaping his patchy and unruly beard and basically make him look a little more like a runway model and a little less like that weird dude that picks through your garbage for bottles and cans to trade in at the beer store...Speaking of beer, King's landing now offers Sapporo and Red stripe! I have been coming there for last 6 months. I was happy of my first haircuts but the two last ones were not that good. I have had some spot of hair longer than the others. Not really visible but really not professional.. It happened two times in a row. The staff is really terrible, barely talking to clients. They are just chatting together planning their night out.. Really too pricey for the service and the staff. I will look for a new place. read more

I didn't realize how bad my experience was until the day after my cut. On first look my haircut was alright but I was never asked how I felt or if I wanted anything else before being pushed out of the barbers chair to make room for the next customer. He never even showed me the back with a mirror or anything. I just feel like this place isn't very service oriented and is more of a machine designed to cut hair fast in order to get through a ton on walk in customers. That being said, really nice guys with a cool vibe to their shop. I don't think I'll be going back though.. And now I have to live looking like a hipster version of Josh Donaldson until I go somewhere else to fix it. read more

Do you want a good haircut but waste half your day, go to Kings Landing! I was a dedicated customer for 2+ years until last weekend. They do good work but managing clients is disappointing. I drove 45 minutes to get there and waited 1 1/2 hours for cut. My name was on the list and I was told to go for a walk. I returned and waited another 25 minutes and was again told to go for another walk. My name had been bumped on the list for other clients that the barbers knew. Wake up Pernell, the customer experience is part of the haircut! You lost a heavy tipper (30%) customer. read more

Was traveling from out of town, and got suggested to go to Crow's Nest. Crow's Nest was booked up for the entire day and they told me to check out King's Landing. Little bit of wait but was able to walk in and get a nice clean cut. Barber was attentive to detail and the location was a nice place to hang out for an hour. Highly recommend this place! read more

I really needed a hair cut today so I called Hollow Ground looking for Pernell. A couple months back he gave me one of the best cuts I've ever had and I've remembered him since then. Turns out he opened up a shop of his own, so I booked it over to Kings Landing and was really happy with the whole experience- which I kinda figured would happen, since Pernell did such an awesome job last time. It's a convenient location, a block or two West of Bathurst and College. The space itself is clean and classy but chill/laid back at the same time. It has a giant window (great street view), flat screen TV (we watched The Price is Right, it was a good time). The chairs are old school Barber shop chairs so you feel kind of bad ass sitting in them. Pernell and the dude at reception are down to earth and easy to talk to. Pernell knows what he's doing with cutting hair, so I could just take it easy and trust it would turn out alright. He asked for feedback and listened to what I wanted and also incorporated his own ideas. He never tried to sell me any product. Overall this is exactly the cut I wanted so I'm happy. I'll definitely be going back and I highly recommend checking it out if you need a cut. The cut came to $27 which is really affordable to me. I appreciate the top quality experience at such a good price. Two thumbs up. read more

Overall - great. I just arrived from Vancouver and am used to paying $14 for a simple haircut at Nick's, $19 with tip. I love Nicks because they're quick (15 minutes), don't chat much (10% of the time), do good simple cuts, and are cheap. King's Landing has a much better vibe with great music, the cut was better than Nick's, and they have beer. I wish it were quicker (wait took 15 minutes, cut took 30 minutes, but the person was very kind in moving me up the line because I had called in earlier), and cheaper ($27 net of tip, $32 with tip), but Toronto's a larger city so both these things are expected. In the end, I'll be a return customer, and it's worth you checking it out. read more

Weeks ago my partner went and got a cut from a guy that scraped up his neck very badly because he was distracted talking. But, since there aren't a ton of options in TO, he went back today hoping to get cleaned up again by someone else. He waited nearly 2 hours and got then got bumped when the dudes' buddies walked in.
