As the queen of denial, I responded with a complete shutdown. I crawled into bed, pulled blankets over my head, curled into a ball and sobbed until I fell asleep. By the next morning, my adulting card had been revoked, the water had abated, and pale gray fuzz sprouted in places it clearly did not belong. I was suddenly the landlord to millions of mold spores who were officially squatters and not even attempting to pay the rent. The owner of this business, Bob's Junk & Scrap Removal, reached out to me and offered his help. I'm not sure I would have had the energy or emotional bandwidth to make the initial contact. I could see the forest, but the trees were a blur--I couldn't break down all that needed to be done into manageable steps. Now whether this gentleman, owner of Bob's, has an equally unhinged female in his life or he possesses innate empathy, he knew exactly what I needed. He drove to our home, offered a shoulder, then got to work telling me what I needed to be doing. Much of what was on that list wasn't even in his wheelhouse, but he took the time to explain each step. He made clear the dangers of allowing any additional mold growth, the emergent need to spray an anti microbial, and the importance of removing the still dripping insulation. He walked our property line (on one side of which is a debris filled culvert that, due to the torrential storm, showed a clear line which delineated the height of the water and the dam of trash, sticks and mud that had blocked the path to the drainage pipe). He stayed for over an hour, interacted with friends and relatives who were helping us get jump-started and pitched in to move some of the heavier items. Whilst that day I clearly failed Adulting 101, Bobby was the one who could have been teaching the class. Bobby was professional, compassionate and business oriented whilst also displaying what appeared to be genuine empathy. Service this amazing is far from today's norm, and Bobby provided a much need calming effect on this high-drama mama. Do not hesitate for a single second to hire this company. Hell, I'd even be tempted to just hire him for weekly adulting lessons. He is beyond five stars and a brilliant light in a field of ordinary dross. It just doesn't get any better.

A contractor I hired in spring for a large hardscape project including concrete work ripped me off, and destroyed my property in the process. They left ripped up concrete under the front porch and between the garage. Wherever they could offload debris they did. Weeds grew, and I was completely depressed by the situation. On Thursday I called Bob, and he scheduled me for Saturday. He removed all the junk, weeding (he actually pulls the weeds out when necessary), cut the grass twice, weed whacked, cleaned out the window wells, inspected my gutters, cleaned up the leaves and debris, used a leaf blower in my garage to make it tidy. He had a helper as well, who also is very experienced. They both treated my property like it was their own, and understood what the mission was, they were knowledgeable and conscientious. I have renewed hope that there are ethical, hard-working and good humans on this planet, and you cannot go wrong with Bobs Junk & Scrap Removal. The company completed only part of the work and then left the rest--specifically insulation and drywall--unfinished. This left my attic without insulation during the coldest part of winter. When I followed up to have the work completed, my calls went unanswered, despite being told they would return. One day, I came home from an appointment to find the workers packing up after completing only the mold remediation portion. They had the owner on speakerphone. At that point, the owner demanded additional payment before proceeding with the remaining work. This had never been discussed and was not reflected anywhere in the written agreement. I calmly pointed that out. The owner then proceeded to yell at me for an extended period of time over terms that simply did not exist in our contract. The interaction was aggressive, unprofessional, and completely out of line. During that conversation, I even tried to de-escalate and discussed possibly separating the remaining work due to his behavior. However, I made it clear that my preference was for the job to be completed properly and with care, as originally agreed. That never happened. After that interaction, the company stopped responding altogether. I ultimately had to hire someone else to finish the job. To be fair, the employees I interacted with in person were kind and professional. However, they also did not respond to my follow-up attempts, which I can only assume was direction from the owner. If you are considering this company, make sure every detail is explicitly documented and be aware that the project may not be completed as agreed. Additionally, the owner's conduct alone should give serious pause before entering into a contract.
