I hired Simple Fix Home Repair and Remodeling for two large projects and unfortunately had a very…read morefrustrating experience from start to finish. For the first project, they removed and rebuilt a set of egress steps at the rear of a duplex. I provided professional drawings, site plans, and had already requested the permit through the City of Pittsburgh, so expectations were clear from the start. Communication throughout the project was extremely poor. I consistently had to chase down Brad, the project manager, just to get basic updates. He would often respond saying he needed to check with Tyler (the onsite worker), but then I would have to follow up again to actually get any answers. There was no proactive communication, and workers would often show up without notice, which made managing the project unnecessarily stressful. Quality of work on the first project was also disappointing. During the final inspection, several items did not pass. One of the required fixes was to apply silicone between the new deck and the house. The result was shockingly sloppy--silicone was smeared across the wood in multiple areas instead of being neatly applied where needed. It honestly looked like it was done with no care or attention to detail. The second project involved multiple items identified on a borough inspection report, including building a deck, installing handrails with baluster guards, replacing floor jacks with mono columns, and installing a condensate pump to eliminate a PVC drain line that was a tripping hazard. Unfortunately, the same issues continued--and in some cases were worse. The scope of work was clearly defined in the inspection report, yet key items were done incorrectly. For example, the existing basement pipe handrails were removed as requested, but instead of installing code-compliant handrails with baluster guards, they installed simple wood handrails without any baluster protection. Similarly, they were instructed to replace floor jacks with permanent mono columns. Instead, they initially installed new floor jacks again. After I raised the issue, they returned to install mono columns--but even then the work was not done correctly. The posts were installed with undersized screws at the top and were not bolted to the floor at all. When I questioned this, Brad responded that drilling bolts into the concrete might cause it to "blow apart" and said I would need to sign off on any risk if they proceeded. This was not an acceptable solution. I ultimately had to hire another contractor to properly secure the posts with appropriate fasteners and anchoring. A few weeks later, another serious issue surfaced: the condensate pump had been wired incorrectly into the furnace circuit board. I had a licensed HVAC company come out, and they confirmed and documented the improper installation. In addition to the workmanship issues, there are still unfinished items. When the deck was built, piles of dirt were left in the backyard with the promise they would return to clean it up. That has still not been completed. Between the lack of communication, repeated mistakes, incomplete work, and the need to hire additional professionals to correct their errors, this was a very disappointing experience. I would not recommend Simple Fix Home Repair and Remodeling based on the quality of work and overall project management.

When it came time to fix the ceiling, we could not get the previous company to return our calls so we turned to MXCP Construction. We had a consultation over the phone and I agreed for them to start the job the following week. They arrived promptly, assessed the damage in person, and talked me through the repair and patch process. They got to work right away and finished the repairs on the same day including the texture. The ceiling repair had to dry so it could not be completed on the same day. The crew cleaned up and took all the debris with them. The price was reasonable, they were timely, and the ceiling looked good!

Below is full story: My landlord's standard general contractor could not work on furnaces and so he sub-contracted out the work to these guys. We were told that they were coming on Wednesday, February 5, and that I was receiving a call before they came. I was able to work remotely that day from home and was ready for them to show. I went to walk the dog outside, took my phone with me, and came back to an unmarked truck parked along the road. The workers had just let themselves in our house while I was walking the dog. I yelled "hello" from upstairs since the truck was unmarked, and I never got a call that they were on their way, and no one answered my hello. I went downstairs and they already had a panel off the furnace. I was scared since I never got a call and the truck doesn't have any business logo or decal. I asked them, "Do you guys just let yourselves in to people's houses? I was out walking the dog and was told you were calling first, and took my phone with me." They just said that their boss never told them to call and that they were sorry but were in a rush, so they let themselves in after no one answered when they knocked. Then I went back upstairs and the upstairs bathroom toilet had the seat still up with urine on the seat. So, I went back downstairs and asked them, "Did you guys just use the bathroom on your own as well? You left the toilet seat up." The older gentleman denied it but the younger one apologized and said it was him. Afterward, they went outside to make a few phone calls. They came back in and the younger gentleman said he had to go to other calls/make other stops and to go get us a part - a smart sensor or something - and that he would be back later that day. I confirmed with him that I'd be here all day if they came back later. He also wasn't sure if Joe (the landlord's general contractor) was paying for the part or what, and that they will get better and work on their communication. They have never come back to actually fix the part since that late morning they said that they'd be back Wednesday afternoon. It wasn't until they left, that I saw the back of their sweatshirts had the business on it. They were from "Allegheny Plumbing, Inc - Heating Cooling."

They installed 2 new (hot&cold) washer valves which were previously rusted so bad the hoses couldn't be removed. Not only did they give a reasonable price they hooked up the new washer&dryer and leveled them, something the delivery drivers couldn't even achieve! Thanks for the great service! We never had a problem until now. We used Mike for our siding in 2003 and he had done home repairs over the years. He did an estimate for a roof, we accepted, gave him a downpayment and did not hear any update for two months. When I called and asked for some urgency, he sent a crew to deliver materials. They said they would start working in the rain. I told them I felt uncomfortable with that and without any discussion they left and cancelled the contract that I had waited for months to be completed. I am blown away. I couldn't get in touch with anyone. When I finally reached Mike, he decided it was easier to refund my money than deal with an unhappy customer. Imagine. Now I am a very unhappy former customer. I hope I find someone more professional to do my home repairs.
