I said how much do you get an hour? $400/hour! AND $450 for 8' pipe. We said, no way!" Had job done with new pipe - and inspected by gas company - for $800. Buyer beware of these guys. They also offered to replace our "stack pipe" - drain pipe from upstairs fixtures - for $14K! Why? Because of a leak at the bottom of the stack in the basement. To be fair, though outrageously expensive, they have done decent work for us in the past.

Most recently, they replaced a broken shower valve, fixed an outdoor hose hookup that burst a leak last winter (and had been shut off ever since), fixed a leaky shower, and adjusted our home water pressure, all for the minimum cost of a single service call because the replacement hardware I grabbed at Lowe's last night worked. I actually live outside what Yelp says is their service range, so if you're within about a half hour or so from them it doesn't hurt to give them a call.

Friday, it was the cold water pipe, which took seven hours of work to unfreeze. We thought we were in the clear and counted our blessings as we kept the cold water running overnight Friday -- only to discover Saturday around noon that the hot water pipe was now frozen solid. Twelve straight hours of effort with hair dryers, space heaters, boiling water pots, heating pad wraps and everything else we could think of did not work and we went to sleep Christmas Eve defeated, wondering how we were hosting the rest of my family on Christmas with no hot water, dishwasher, etc. (Our efforts did eventually pay off with the hot water coming on at 8 a.m. Christmas morning and no pipes bursting. So grateful.) During this nightmare I called a number of plumbers who list themselves as emergency 24/7 plumbers, but only Gary from Brickhaas called back. He called during the span of time that I thought everything was under control, but I asked if we could be booked for later in the week to unclog a bathroom drain I've had a problem with lately. He called with a 20-minute heads up on his arrival, efficiently took care of the clogged sink and an aerator that was limiting water flow, installed a new kitchen sink trap assembly (which he said I could honestly take or leave; I appreciated the honesty but opted to replace for my own peace of mind), and offered solid advice about what we might do if plans to better insulate those water pipes in the future didn't work out re: rerouting the pipes from their current, poor location. Next day machine was coming between 7 am and 7 pm. They showed up at 9 am to help. We have used them many times at my mothers and mother in law's house which are both from the early 1900's. Any problem they have run across (and there were many), they were able to handle easily. I've used this company since the owner was doing calls. They even saved us over 7,000 dollars by running the second sewage line through the basement rather than under the house. They are professional, friendly, and always clean up after themselves. When they say they are going to show, they always make it in the window given. I've even had them remove an old gas line from a chandelier so we could put up a new one (he had to find the ancient parts to use), which he did so promptly and finished the same day.
