The real estate biz is hard at work gentrifying the few remaining fragments in the area, perhaps with names like VaHo (Varick and Houston), HollaBack (the general region in back of the Holland Tunnel) and NoFiFo (north of Film Forum). So it's nice to see an old-timey Chinese takeout spot here, one with tables available and late hours. Shrimp chow mein had a pleasant white sauce while sesame wontons in hot oil offered more of a kick, in both cases providing a respectable size/price ratio. I believe I enjoyed the ribs here several years ago, but there's enough misinformation on the internet so for the moment let's call the ribs non-canon, but I'll try to revisit and confirm. read more

Not somewhere you go to eat inside and have a date. My bf likes the boneless spare ribs, so I guess that's good. But it's the worst soup I've ever had like wonton or hot and sour and I've honestly never gotten anything here that I enjoyed. Sorry to say. A decent go to restaurant when I'm looking for lunch in the area that I don't want to be expensive! I ordered the lunch special shrimp and broccoli with white rice. You can choose a different side if you want but I didn't want any fried rice or lo mein. The flavor was decent I prefer larger shrimp in my shrimp & broccoli. The food was prepared really quickly which was great because I was in a rush. You can order online or you can order at the restaurant itself. They move really quickly so you can get your food in less than 10 minutes. This is my go-to Chinese takeout spot, even though it's not the closest one to me. The chicken and broccoli is solid and flavorful (with plenty of tender chicken!) and the lunch special really packs in plenty of food. The fried rice could be tastier but it's fine. I tried shrimp toast for the first time here--how could you go wrong with a shrimpy filling on top of toast that's then deep-fried? You can't. It tasted like unhealthy dim sum in the best possible way; definitely a guilty pleasure. I've heard good things about their lo mein and some of their other dishes but I'm guilty of always ordering the same thing. Food is cooked quickly and they seem pretty good about customizations. Prices keep creeping up, but you know, inflation. This spot is great for your Chinese American food cravings--I'm looking forward to actually trying some of their other dishes! Could have used a little more sauce, but a little soy sauce took it to where it needed to be. However, if you happen to order from here, you won't be disappointed simply because it's very standard. For this review, I ordered the fried dumplings and the yat gat mein soup. The soup lacked elevated style vegetables, and was missing staple ingredients. It was as basic of a soup for this dish as you can get. I was hoping that this old time Chinese takeout restaurant would be better than all of the cruddy newer pop up Chinese places that are so terrible. But alas. It is cheap for a reason. They use very cheap ingredients and lots of sugar. General Tso's chicken had some uncooked inedible broccoli buried under the goopy messy sauce. At one point I could almost taste the memory of this dish but in the end it was just very bland and the chicken stringy. The bean curd and veggie soup was ok but none of the veggies were cooked. They must have just been thrown in the container raw with the hot broth. Very disappointing altogether leaving a bad stinging aftertaste in my mouth an hour later, and destroying my delicate tastebuds and giving me a bad headache.
