I'll ask for nine, she gives me six, and if I ask for more, she hands them over with attitude. I've even offered to pay for extra salsa just to avoid the attitude, but it still feels like a hassle every time. Another issue is how unprepared they are. On Mondays, Saturdays, Sundays, and sometimes even during the week, they don't have basic vegetables like rabanos, carrots, or pickled onions -- things they've always offered. When I ask, they tell me they don't have anything and that they "only for sure have them on Tuesdays." How does that make sense? These are basic items they should have all week. The food has gone downhill too. I've tried pretty much everything over the years, but the biggest problems are with: * Tamales -- Big, but mostly masa with barely any meat. And the meat they do add is full of nerves and fat. * Tacos -- Same issue: tons of nerves, barely edible, and the tortillas are drenched in grease. * Tortas -- I pay $2 extra for beans and they never add them. The Taco Boy on Euclid is way better -- they have salsas, onions, carrots, radishes, and more available for you to grab yourself, and the food is consistently good. We had our in-laws with us, so there were four of us. Parking is a little tight, but they do have additional parking available next door. We were lucky enough to find a spot. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and seated right away. The service was excellent from start to finish. Our busboy came over almost immediately to take our drink order, and we ordered the café de olla--WOW! It was so delicious that I had FOUR cups! That alone is worth coming back for. We also ordered molletes, made with Mexican telera bread with butter and sugar, which paired perfectly with the café de olla. For breakfast, I had the chile relleno plate, my husband ordered the El Rey plate, which is HUGE and comes with steak, eggs, rice, beans, potatoes, and chilaquiles. My father-in-law had the menudo, and my mother-in-law ordered the chile verde with rice and beans. Everything was delicious and the portions were generous. They also brought chips and salsa to the table, and when we asked if they had other salsas, they brought us three different, spicier salsas to try. One of them was a spicy green salsa that looked almost like guacamole, but had a delicious kick. Our total for four people was about $144, which we felt was very reasonable for the portions, food, and excellent service. Beautiful Mexican inspired aesthetic with nice decor.
