If you've done this before, you know how hard it is. Dr Barrett is exceptional. She gave me a whole hour of her time to do a Quality of Life (QOL) Assessment. She never rushed me, gave me so much space and grace to be panicked and scared at what we were facing, guided me with very helpful questions and allowed me to come to my own realization that it was time. She gave me very helpful QOL assessment tools to complete which also really helped with the decision and alleviated a lot of fear and doubt. When the day actually came she was patient and kind and gentle and so deeply respectful. It's the little touches and attention to detail that don't seem like much in the moment but help soften a difficult experience that I am remember with a lot of gratitude now after the fact. That attention to detail made it feel like a final act of love, and not a clinical procedure. Every action is carefully thought of to let you know that your pets crossing will be done with tenderness and care. It was easy to trust that she would treat my little guy the way I would, because she did. There aren't enough wonderful things to say about Dr. Barrett. I wish every veterinarian could be like her. My beautiful Penelope was diagnosed with lung cancer in January 2021. She was only supposed to live for a few months. Devastated, I called Kindred Spirits and Dr. Barrett enrolled her in the palliative/hospice program. Dr. Barrett helped me make her comfortable and ensured that she kept her appetite up. She lived a great quality of life for over a year and I cannot thank Dr. Barrett enough for the extra time she helped me get with Penny. When it was time to let her go last week, I was terrified that it would be another emergency room experience like what happened with my dog Sedona and cat Samantha. I called Dr. Barrett and she worked me into her schedule. This meant the world to me since Penny had developed a fear of the vet clinic over the last year or two. I was able to spend 30 minutes alone with my baby girl before the procedure. Because Penny already knew Dr. Barrett from prior home visits, she was not afraid and was able to drift to sleep peacefully. We needed to say goodbye to our beloved dog, a senior with mobility issues and aggressive lung disease. He was having a good day, a good week even, and Dr. Barrett made it possible for him to pass peacefully and comfortably...without distress or pain...in his usual napping spot surrounded by his favorite people. Our pets have final wishes too, to pass in the comfort of their home with their loved ones. That's why Dr. Barrett was my first choice to help my Dixie girl cross rainbow bridge. She also has a lovely office. 8 months ago we had a really bad week with Dixie and I was able to pull her through. I quickly started my research and found that there were 2 other options which I considered. Size was comfortable in our home, Dr. Barrett was kind and empathetic. My cat, Cargo, watched everything Dr. Barrett prepared, and I think he too approved of the service she provided his best friend. She went peacefully, surrounded by her forever family. We were provided a pamphlet for grieving and that was a special surprise. I received her ashes about a week later, they are in my sons room until we spread them and that gives him comfort since he wasn't present when she passed. The cost to have this type of experience was 100% worth the experience. I had envisioned my cat peacefully passing in my arm at home. Unfortunately that did not happen. My cat was nestled in my arm peacefully when Dr. Barrett gave the first shot. I had repeatedly assured with Dr. Barrett that she was using the orange very small insulin needle and I had given my cat convenia shots with that needle several times without her even realizing that a needle went into her. Not this time, obviously Dr. Barrett just rammed the needle in, without any desensitization or preparation, and my cat jumped up in panic and tried to run away. I was shocked to the core. I was able to catch her and prevent her from leaving the bed, she was standing over me, on my chest, and I saw her panicked face which just showed utter confusion and fear. I thought I'd have 5 - 10 minutes to settle her down again as Dr. Barrett had said that it might take 5 - 10 minutes for the shot to work but my poor cat pretty much in less than 10 seconds was knocked out cold, like a boxer in the ring, she just collapsed onto my chest not falling asleep peacefully but knock unconscious and was gone. Her heart might still have been beating but she was totally out. It was the most horrible experience, for both of us, my cat and me, and I will blame myself forever that by making the wrong choice I failed my poor cat. And my last memory of her will not be a peaceful passing but her confused and fearful face. I truly hope no one will ever have to experience this pain and agony and no pet will be send off in panic and be robbed of a peaceful transition. read more

I unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to say good-bye to my precious baby, Koby. I had originally emailed Dr Barrett to give her the background about Koby's cancer, and she replied pretty quickly. When it was time for Koby to cross the Rainbow Bridge, I contacted Dr Barret by phone, and I was able to make an appointment for the next day. When Dr Barrett came to the house, she was very courteous and polite. I didn't feel rushed or pressured to hurry up, she allowed me to go at my own pace. She sat with Koby and I, and listened to me talk about Koby and his personality, and brag about him for a bit too. When it was time, Dr Barrett explained the process and what to expect at each step. She talked to Koby in a calm, soothing voice as she proceeded. Afterwards, Dr Barret stepped outside and allowed myself and my daughter and son-in-law some privacy so we could say our goodbyes. We even allowed our 2 other dogs to come say their goodbyes, so that they could see that their "Uncle" was no longer in pain. When it was time for Dr Barrett to take Koby away, she brought in a stretcher. She carefully laid a blanket and a pillow down on the stretcher. As she gently laid Koby on the blanket and pillow, she carefully tucked him in, all the while talking to him in a calm, soothing voice. There are not enough words to express my gratitude for Dr Barrett. This was an extremely difficult time for me, losing my wonderful, precious Koby, but Dr Barrett was such a tremendous help. Okay, it has been a good amount of time since I had two of my dogs put down so I have the capacity to leave a review. One was put down a couple years ago and the other about 6 months ago. I had found out about aquamation online at some point and was so happy to see there was a place in town that provided these services. Dr. Barrett was kind and helpful with both of my dog's end of life care. My only complaint would be about the medication management. One of my dogs had a severe reaction (stroke) to a medication prescribed by Dr. Barrett. It caused a lot of unnecessary stress and sadness for everyone during some of her last days with us. I understand that sometimes these medications are a gamble, but personally I don't think they are even worth it anymore. My hope is that there is more care in the future by professionals and pet owners on what medications are appropriate and which ones have too many risks to even bother with. Always read the medication inserts and be informed before making a decision. read more

My boyfriend and I came in today for a very unfortunate and sudden passing of my reptile. They were super nice on the phone and made the whole process of saying our final goodbye very comforting. The whole process was super easy and made it very stress free for the both of us. They let us stay with our lizard for as long as we need to, to say our final goodbyes, before her cremation. I write this review with a heavy heart but wanted to let others know how wonderful Kindred Spirits and Dr. Barrett treated my sweet boy and our family. She personally answered her phone the first time I called and through my tears very kindly walked me through the process. I had questions about my children being present as our sweet boy had been with us for almost 17 years and she offered supportive reading material available on her website. One the day she arrived she was kind and cautious. I never felt anything but complete compassion. Our family was not rushed, and we were able to say the most peaceful goodbye and it honestly was all I could have asked for. She left us with reading material which was very helpful to read in the coming days. She also left with us coloring books for our boys that discussed the passing of a beloved pet. Then she did something that just completely took me by surprise and brought in two stuffed puppies for my boys which they sleep with every night. As she was walking away I said to her "you must really love animals" and she smiled and replied "I really do." She assured me she would take care of my sweet boy until he was back home like he was her own and I knew she meant it. Only a few days later a personal card written by Dr. Barrett arrived expressing her deepest sympathies. When we picked him up a few days later the compassion and kindness were still very apparent. The urn we had ordered was very nice and included was a small package of Kleenex with a memorial bubble release. The note attached to the bubble release was one of the sweetest things I have ever read and really hit home for me and my sweet boy. There was also a certificate of aquamation and a card with all the Barretts family members names. I hope Dr. Barrett reads this and knows how much I appreciate her making one of the hardest days of my life one that I reflect on with peace. I also want others who love their pet as much as I did to know about Kindred Spirits because if you're reading this you are probably as heartbroken as I was, and their services made a world of difference. read more

We had to make that difficult decision that no pet lover wants to make, but our Boston Terrier Max at 15 1/2 had begun to really struggle with his old age. With multiple medical issues, we didn't want him to suffer. He had been such an active dog, it was hard to watch his decline. When we decided time was getting near, I started doing research and decided on Kindred Spirits. I called and talked to Dr. Barrett. She explained the process and options and we made an appointment. We took him to the office and she gave us as much as we needed and was so gentle and respectful. The office is like a living room which I liked rather than a sterile vet office. I held him until he passed peacefully and she again gave us time to say goodbye. I picked out an urn and two weeks later, we picked Max up.
