Today we retrieved the remains of our beloved senior pups, Dude and Patti. It was a "joint" euthanasia as both pups had various health issues that could not be fixed with another visit to our local vet. Anyone with a pet, faces the inevitable and it's not an easy decision but most of the time, it is the only decision one can make and the most humane and merciful. Such was the case with my pups. Dude was 18 years old and Patti was 15 years old. Both were rescues. I love them dearly and miss them every day. When it came time to let go, we chose Kindred Spirits. I had never used a service in home and always went to the vet's office. This time, I decided that I did not want to subject my pups to a 20 minute drive which was always stressful to them, causing them undue anxiety. I wanted their last moments to be at home, surrounded with their family and in a place that was familiar to them...not antiseptic with other dogs barking and the chatter of strangers. I am so glad we went with Kindred Spirits. From my first contact with Alice, who set-up the appointment to meeting Dr. Kellie Barrett, DVM who handled the pups with warmth, kindness, compassion and gave us as much time as needed to spend the last moments with Dude and Patti. It was the last thing I was able to do for my loving, dear pups and it was the best thing for them. I will never regret the decision. I only regret that I couldn't have them with me longer. My thanks and gratitude to both Dr. Barrett and Alice. read more

Kindred Spirits and I were in constant contact regarding the passing of our loved one. They were/are always compassionate and thoughtful. Dr Barrett came to our home and was very conscientious of our needs and emotions. She gently performed the procedure when we were ready. She stepped out so that we and our other loved one could grieve. Then she explained again the next steps. Dr Barrett and Alice (who was also wonderful), kept us up to date and sent a paw print in a card along with handwritten condolences. We will also be receiving the ashes and additional services soon. Having Kindred Spirits come to our home was the best decision for our loved one. Thank you Dr Barrett and Alice for what you do and how you do it. read more

Very compassionate, understanding and your pet comes home in a beautiful bag and with a paw print

I would recommend in home euthanasia again and again but more so, Kindred Spirits. Dr. Barrett was so kind, gentle, and respectful. She quietly followed our queues when it came to giving our sweet boy the medicine. He was in no pain and he went so quickly. He was ready to pass. Prior to and after her visit, she gave us so much material to help us cope and understand what happens during and after euthanasia. None of the information was overwhelming in any way. I have so much closure and peace surrounding my baby's passing. So much of that peace comes from Kindred Spirits but more importantly, Dr. Barrett, thank you‍. It's never easy to have to say goodbye to a beloved animal. This was a serene experience although sad. The Dr. Was gentle and respectful of our grief. Lots of supportive details. A comfortable couch to say goodbye. Treats for one last spoiling. Something for any animal lover. Highly recommend. read more

I simply cannot recommend Dr. Barrett enough. Nobody is excited to make the decision to say goodbye to a family pet. Our vet recommended Kindred Spirits when we knew it was time to let our 14 year old lab go. Dr. Barrett was so incredibly professional and compassionate, allowing us to take all the time we needed to say goodbye and collect ourselves. She explained the process step by step and we felt completely comfortable having her there for such a profoundly personal moment. Our sweet girl was able to pass peacefully in her home with her family surrounding her. We are so grateful for Kindred Spirits for providing such loving and compassionate care. read more

There aren't enough wonderful things to say about Dr. Barrett. I wish every veterinarian could be like her. My beautiful Penelope was diagnosed with lung cancer in January 2021. She was only supposed to live for a few months. Devastated, I called Kindred Spirits and Dr. Barrett enrolled her in the palliative/hospice program. Dr. Barrett helped me make her comfortable and ensured that she kept her appetite up. She lived a great quality of life for over a year and I cannot thank Dr. Barrett enough for the extra time she helped me get with Penny. When it was time to let her go last week, I was terrified that it would be another emergency room experience like what happened with my dog Sedona and cat Samantha. I called Dr. Barrett and she worked me into her schedule. This meant the world to me since Penny had developed a fear of the vet clinic over the last year or two. I was able to spend 30 minutes alone with my baby girl before the procedure. Because Penny already knew Dr. Barrett from prior home visits, she was not afraid and was able to drift to sleep peacefully. As hard as it was to let her go, I would not ever want to do this any other way with my other babies. Thank you so much, Dr. Barrett. Penelope passed with dignity and respect because of you. read more

Our goofy, beloved George was slipping away from inoperable liver cancer. Over the years, he developed a fear of going to the vet and not returning home (loss of previous dogs?). I was determined to not let him face this. Our vet provided a list of trusted in-home EOL vets. In investigating each, Kindred Spirits stood out as not only having a vet with the most extensive end of life and grief training, but also focusing more on the loss we were facing and the difficulty in making such a crucial decision. Dr. Barrett and her assistant, Alice, were able to schedule an appropriate time at our home and were both caring and professional. They made sure we understood the process and that we were in control of each step. We never felt rushed. They demonstrated total respect to George and his comfort. It was beautifully done. The memorial options were appropriate, appealing, and they never felt like over-the-top monetary opportunities. The cremains were put together with care and attention. I wouldn't hesitate to contact Kindred Spirits again when facing this decision and highly recommended them. read more

If you've done this before, you know how hard it is. Dr Barrett is exceptional. She gave me a whole hour of her time to do a Quality of Life (QOL) Assessment. She never rushed me, gave me so much space and grace to be panicked and scared at what we were facing, guided me with very helpful questions and allowed me to come to my own realization that it was time. She gave me very helpful QOL assessment tools to complete which also really helped with the decision and alleviated a lot of fear and doubt. When the day actually came she was patient and kind and gentle and so deeply respectful. It's the little touches and attention to detail that don't seem like much in the moment but help soften a difficult experience that I am remember with a lot of gratitude now after the fact. That attention to detail made it feel like a final act of love, and not a clinical procedure. Every action is carefully thought of to let you know that your pets crossing will be done with tenderness and care. It was easy to trust that she would treat my little guy the way I would, because she did. In addition to her amazingly kind soul and services, she and her team are communicative, responsive, organized and reliable. Pricing is very transparent and posted on the website so there are no surprises. I never had to track anything down or ask for clarification or follow up on anything. Kindred Spirits Pet Services was a gift to us. I cannot thank them enough or recommend them more highly. We needed to say goodbye to our beloved dog, a senior with mobility issues and aggressive lung disease. He was having a good day, a good week even, and Dr. Barrett made it possible for him to pass peacefully and comfortably...without distress or pain...in his usual napping spot surrounded by his favorite people. While this was a difficult decision, we have no regrets and that is of so much comfort in our time of grief. I can honestly say I can look back on the day our dog left us and be sad but also comforted by the knowledge we did the best we could and he was treated so well, not only in his life, but in his last moments and afterwards. We could not have asked for a more compassionate experience that the one Kindred Spirits gave us. Dr. Barrett is clearly skilled and compassionate and we will be forever grateful for her. The memorial items we received were also wonderful, tasteful, and meaningful. Dr. Barrett left us with the paw print impression in a lovely leather folio with space for a photo of our beloved pup. The ink pawprint on a little canvas and easel arrived a few days later with a personal note and while we all sobbed again, it was most welcome. This experience was worth so more than the price. The comfort and relief we all have as a family is beyond measure. We are so grateful even as we grieve for everything Kindred Spirits did for us. read more

Our pets have final wishes too, to pass in the comfort of their home with their loved ones. That's why Dr. Barrett was my first choice to help my Dixie girl cross rainbow bridge. She also has a lovely office. 8 months ago we had a really bad week with Dixie and I was able to pull her through. I quickly started my research and found that there were 2 other options which I considered. Size was comfortable in our home, Dr. Barrett was kind and empathetic. My cat, Cargo, watched everything Dr. Barrett prepared, and I think he too approved of the service she provided his best friend. She went peacefully, surrounded by her forever family. We were provided a pamphlet for grieving and that was a special surprise. I received her ashes about a week later, they are in my sons room until we spread them and that gives him comfort since he wasn't present when she passed. The cost to have this type of experience was 100% worth the experience. Had I owned a home now, we would have hAve buried her at home too, but spreading her ashes at her favorite spot will be a great way to honor her. Thank you. read more

Dr. Barrett is the most kindest & respectful veterinarian you will ever come across. Thank you for helping Brutus cross the rainbow bridge.

I unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to say good-bye to my precious baby, Koby. I had originally emailed Dr Barrett to give her the background about Koby's cancer, and she replied pretty quickly. When it was time for Koby to cross the Rainbow Bridge, I contacted Dr Barret by phone, and I was able to make an appointment for the next day. When Dr Barrett came to the house, she was very courteous and polite. I didn't feel rushed or pressured to hurry up, she allowed me to go at my own pace. She sat with Koby and I, and listened to me talk about Koby and his personality, and brag about him for a bit too. When it was time, Dr Barrett explained the process and what to expect at each step. She talked to Koby in a calm, soothing voice as she proceeded. Afterwards, Dr Barret stepped outside and allowed myself and my daughter and son-in-law some privacy so we could say our goodbyes. We even allowed our 2 other dogs to come say their goodbyes, so that they could see that their "Uncle" was no longer in pain. When it was time for Dr Barrett to take Koby away, she brought in a stretcher. She carefully laid a blanket and a pillow down on the stretcher. As she gently laid Koby on the blanket and pillow, she carefully tucked him in, all the while talking to him in a calm, soothing voice. There are not enough words to express my gratitude for Dr Barrett. This was an extremely difficult time for me, losing my wonderful, precious Koby, but Dr Barrett was such a tremendous help. She is such a kind and compassionate person. I highly recommend Dr Barrett if and when it is time for anyone to have to say goodbye to their "furbaby". Thank you Dr Barret! read more

I had envisioned my cat peacefully passing in my arm at home. Unfortunately that did not happen. My cat was nestled in my arm peacefully when Dr. Barrett gave the first shot. I had repeatedly assured with Dr. Barrett that she was using the orange very small insulin needle and I had given my cat convenia shots with that needle several times without her even realizing that a needle went into her. Not this time, obviously Dr. Barrett just rammed the needle in, without any desensitization or preparation, and my cat jumped up in panic and tried to run away. I was shocked to the core. I was able to catch her and prevent her from leaving the bed, she was standing over me, on my chest, and I saw her panicked face which just showed utter confusion and fear. I thought I'd have 5 - 10 minutes to settle her down again as Dr. Barrett had said that it might take 5 - 10 minutes for the shot to work but my poor cat pretty much in less than 10 seconds was knocked out cold, like a boxer in the ring, she just collapsed onto my chest not falling asleep peacefully but knock unconscious and was gone. Her heart might still have been beating but she was totally out. It was the most horrible experience, for both of us, my cat and me, and I will blame myself forever that by making the wrong choice I failed my poor cat. And my last memory of her will not be a peaceful passing but her confused and fearful face. I truly hope no one will ever have to experience this pain and agony and no pet will be send off in panic and be robbed of a peaceful transition. read more

Okay, it has been a good amount of time since I had two of my dogs put down so I have the capacity to leave a review. One was put down a couple years ago and the other about 6 months ago. I had found out about aquamation online at some point and was so happy to see there was a place in town that provided these services. Dr. Barrett was kind and helpful with both of my dog's end of life care. My only complaint would be about the medication management. One of my dogs had a severe reaction (stroke) to a medication prescribed by Dr. Barrett. It caused a lot of unnecessary stress and sadness for everyone during some of her last days with us. I understand that sometimes these medications are a gamble, but personally I don't think they are even worth it anymore. My hope is that there is more care in the future by professionals and pet owners on what medications are appropriate and which ones have too many risks to even bother with. Always read the medication inserts and be informed before making a decision. read more

My boyfriend and I came in today for a very unfortunate and sudden passing of my reptile. They were super nice on the phone and made the whole process of saying our final goodbye very comforting. The whole process was super easy and made it very stress free for the both of us. They let us stay with our lizard for as long as we need to, to say our final goodbyes, before her cremation. Their prices are very fair compared to other places I've seen. The whole setup they have in their building is very warm and comforting, and a beautiful place to say your final goodbyes to your beloved pet. I definitely recommend this place, very respectful staff, and great atmosphere for you and your beloved pet to say your final wishes. read more

I write this review with a heavy heart but wanted to let others know how wonderful Kindred Spirits and Dr. Barrett treated my sweet boy and our family. She personally answered her phone the first time I called and through my tears very kindly walked me through the process. I had questions about my children being present as our sweet boy had been with us for almost 17 years and she offered supportive reading material available on her website. One the day she arrived she was kind and cautious. I never felt anything but complete compassion. Our family was not rushed, and we were able to say the most peaceful goodbye and it honestly was all I could have asked for. She left us with reading material which was very helpful to read in the coming days. She also left with us coloring books for our boys that discussed the passing of a beloved pet. Then she did something that just completely took me by surprise and brought in two stuffed puppies for my boys which they sleep with every night. As she was walking away I said to her "you must really love animals" and she smiled and replied "I really do." She assured me she would take care of my sweet boy until he was back home like he was her own and I knew she meant it. Only a few days later a personal card written by Dr. Barrett arrived expressing her deepest sympathies. When we picked him up a few days later the compassion and kindness were still very apparent. The urn we had ordered was very nice and included was a small package of Kleenex with a memorial bubble release. The note attached to the bubble release was one of the sweetest things I have ever read and really hit home for me and my sweet boy. There was also a certificate of aquamation and a card with all the Barretts family members names. I hope Dr. Barrett reads this and knows how much I appreciate her making one of the hardest days of my life one that I reflect on with peace. I also want others who love their pet as much as I did to know about Kindred Spirits because if you're reading this you are probably as heartbroken as I was, and their services made a world of difference. read more

I don't usually leave reviews, but I feel as if people in the same awful circumstance as my husband and I were would benefit from our experience. Our beloved boy Murphy had been suffering from valley fever, and after we did everything we could while considering his quality of life it was apparent that calling Kelly was the right thing to do. She was very patient, kind and informative about what we were to expect. She sat down and spent time petting and talking to Murph. She was truly a blessing when having to deal with such an awful situation. She sent a condolence card with a donation in Murphys name. And when we picked up his ashes there was some beautiful things that were included with them. Things to help us heal. Thank you Kelly for being so kind, and helping us through such a trying time. This is my second attempt at posting a review of our experience with Dr. Kellie Barrett of Kindred Spirits. Apparently Yelp's computer decided to take down my first review (you can see it by clicking on "Not Recommended" at the bottom of this page). I am not affiliated with the business in question: my review is independent and unbiased, based on my actual experience. I can't speak highly enough of Dr. Barrett's compassion and professionalism. Her prompt response and gentle presence made a difficult situation so much less painful than it would have been otherwise. Because of Dr. Barrett, our beloved dog passed peacefully and painlessly on her own bed in her own home. read more

We had to make that difficult decision that no pet lover wants to make, but our Boston Terrier Max at 15 1/2 had begun to really struggle with his old age. With multiple medical issues, we didn't want him to suffer. He had been such an active dog, it was hard to watch his decline. When we decided time was getting near, I started doing research and decided on Kindred Spirits. I called and talked to Dr. Barrett. She explained the process and options and we made an appointment. We took him to the office and she gave us as much as we needed and was so gentle and respectful. The office is like a living room which I liked rather than a sterile vet office. I held him until he passed peacefully and she again gave us time to say goodbye. I picked out an urn and two weeks later, we picked Max up. I am so happy with the way everything was handled and the urn is beautiful. I would highly recommend Dr. Barrett and Kindred Spirits. read more
