This is a beautiful assisted living & continuum of care facility that is located in a somewhat…read moresecluded spot. They have Medicaid beds that look just as nice as the assisted living apartments, and secure memory care. This is not, however, a great place for seniors who are active and mobile, especially if they have memory issues. It's fairly sleepy and quiet, and if your loved one is very active, they will be bored here. They do not allow smoking anywhere on the grounds. Ask a lot of questions. They were not forthcoming with me about what they could handle, and as a result my father was forced to move again, which was very difficult. Appearances don't tell you everything. But if your loved one needs a lot of care and is not ambulatory, this place is worth a look.

If I could rate this place negative stars, I most certainly would!…read moreOur loved one arrived from a local hospital and they were not able to shower for close to a week (due to back surgery that had complications). Caught staff aids/nurses lying among themselves. They place "pass the buck" game here, heavily. Their favorite line "I'll be right back" and if you see them again that day, you are lucky. They are on average (so far) 90 minutes late with pain medications and other necessary medications. That right there is UNACCEPTABLE! Our loved one has pushed the call light while we were visiting (has happened numerous times now) and approximately 45 minutes of time would pass before someone would come check on our loved one. Some of the nurses have no idea what they're doing (are they even fully licensed?) as they suggested it was OK to take Norco/vicodin at the same time as a muscle relaxer! This happened the first morning and it almost sent our loved one into CODE as the blood pressure went to a very very low level! Nurses aids kept telling everyone our loved one refused to shower (which is not true as we were all sitting in the room)... and, in addition, one of those that was lying, told our loved one that they 'had two ahead of them'. (this was before they told everyone they were told 'no' by our loved one). The heat is ON in the room... it is middle of summer time.... and there is heat blowing out of the ceiling vent. Temperature outside is almost 90f and HEAT is blowing in their room. We complained and were told "we'll notify maintenance".... it has been 72 hours later... is maintenance in another state? Another aid took our loved ones gingerale and said 'i'll be right back' (said she was going to get a cup with ice)... that aid never came back that night. Food tray was dropped off around 6:20pm... picked up at 4:30AM. There is sooo much more I cannot even begin to elaborate. I am filing a formal complaint with the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), Provider and Consumer Services Unit (PCSU). DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE (unless you want them to be neglected, lied to, treated like they're invisible, or otherwise mistreated... ie... strapped to a wheel chair (big article write up in toledoblade about that incident) or unsupervised adult who drowned in the pond out front and died. (those two are facts).

From the wide variety of social activities, to the nice layout of the apartments, to the dining room and food, they were happy there. It was hard for them to make this move after being so independent all their lives, but WPP allowed them to retain that sense of independence while benefitting from no longer needing to worry about cooking and being on their own. Once my grandma died, my grandpa lived four more years and seemed to feel like he was part of a caring community.

The length of their stay should indicate how pleased we have been with the facility. Staff turnover is VERY low which gives my parents a sense of stability and friendship. My blind father is not always the easiest man to get along with and the WPP staff interacts with him in a patient and understanding manner. It is not a huge establishment which makes it easy for an elderly person to navigate. Being only "assistant living", one never sees medical carts in the hallway which is nice. My sisters and I feel like we can call the front desk at anytime and be greeted with recognition and they are eager to answer questions or concerns we have. The staff is incredibly friendly. The dinning room's ambiance is one of an upscale restaurant. The waitstaff is wonderful. They have a nice variety of food. I 100% recommend WPP. If you are struggling finding a place for your parents I would consider touring. It is never easy moving a parent from their home to assistant living. There will ALWAYS be an uncomfortable period where they are sad or complain about the food or other residents wherever you go. Time spent there and relationships established change those unsettled feelings. The WPP staff work very hard to make that transition go smoothly. Remember a low turnover in staff is IMPORTANT! You want your parents surrounded by employees who like their job. Good luck and don't forget to stop by the kitchen and ask for a chocolate chip cookie!

I love Heritage Corner Health Care Campus!…read more My mother-in-law has been a resident there for over 7 years, and they do a great job taking care of her. No place is perfect, but Heritage has many loyal employees who really care about their clients, and it shows. The nursing staff is awesome. I also love that they have all levels of care from independent living all the way to memory care and hospice. This is important, because as you grow older, the only thing you really have left is your friends, and having all levels in one facility allows Mom to continue to see her friends even when they need a higher level of care. Heritage also has a daycare, so they bring the kids in to interact with the residents on a weekly basis, which the residents really enjoy. In addition, they have lots of activities and bus trips, which the residents enjoy. I would strongly recommend checking out this facility for anyone looking for independent or assisted living.

I felt the patient rooms were visually stark and cold -- to the bleak extreme. (Oddly, the common areas were much better.) People die here but no need for the patient rooms to remind you of it any sooner than necessary. There was no welcoming program to acquaint us with the room. We kept having to ask questions like "what is the phone number to the room," "can she get a glass of water," "where are more blankets and pillows," etc. It was a stressful time, of course, but some of the nursing staff seemed notably distant and disconnected. The intake social worker was above average and the hospice doctor was very good. It wasn't all bad. Bring low expectations about the accommodations and consider hiring a private nurse. In my opinion, this is what lowest common denominator corporate hospice services looks like.

Some medical staff are also very attentive to resident needs and observe standard of care requirements as implemented by adequately educated professionals. Deficiencies on the part of other staff are not due to staffing volume but could be remedied by doing what you were trained to do with quality and care. Money may need to be managed in a way better to meet resident basic needs; for example use some of the money spent on landscaping extras to fix non-functioning bathroom fans, attach bedside light cords/bed controls to the bed so within reach instead of hanging loose, falling onto floor, etc. Allow for resident to watch/listen to their own TV by providing audio via remote or another device that does not disturb roommate and others in adjacent rooms. It would also help to have staff wear ID badges so the resident know who is delivering a service.

Our family personally had a horrific experience that could've resulted in the DEATH of my father. A nurse came to give my father an insulin shot.... Except my father is NOT diebtic or has ever been diebetic. My father had a stroke and needed PT to gain strength and get back home! My poor father was confused when the nurse came in (he has a bit of dementia.) Thankfully a family member was there when the nurse came in with a needle of insulin and spoke up for him!! From that moment on, we decided to have our family members rotating for 4 nights - staying with my father for fear of him being yelled at, neglected or given life threatening medication. Thankfully his insurance was finally approved and we left to a much better, safer and cleaner facility! PLEASE DO NOT NOT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONES TO ARBORS AT SYLVANIA!!! My heart breaks thinking of the precious elderly people still stuck there being neglected and mistreated. They deserve so much better and so did our family. Our experiences at Arbors at sylvania are law suit worthy!!!!
