Before mentioning about the food, I have to say the interior decor of this Thai restaurant is a piece of art itself. It captured a lot of the Asian element and colour that excites your appetite, yet kept the originality of the historical building insight demonstrate the beauty of east meet west. I've purposely ordered an authentic dish - Larb Gai & I love it. Reminded me of Thailand. The minced chicken is kept very juicy with the mint flavour and give you a kick at the end with the spicy. Glad I ordered it mild. If you are looking for a non-alcoholic drink don't overlook the homemade lemonade, not that many Thai restaurant offer it and it is one of the authentic drinks you can get in Thailand. read more

We were so happy to find this restaurant open on a Monday night! The staff was fun and friendly, and the food was delicious!!! We had yellow curry with tofu and it was the best yellow curry I've ever had! If you live nearby, definitely give it a try! read more

Kin Khao is so cute and is serving up great Thai! I ordered from the early bird menu, you get a choice of starter and main to choose from a preselected menu. I went with the chicken satay and panang chicken curry. The berry fizz was also a good adult beverage selection. The only complaint here was the service, it could have been more welcoming. read more

Was here for an engagement party celebration with a good bunch of peeps. Had a great night and this place really started us all off in good form. In my somewhat limited thai experience, this felt the most authentic thai that I've had the pleasure to have!! I went for the crispy wonton wraps as my starter which were the best bad boys I think I've ever had. I followed this with the paneang curry. Absolutely delicious and about as hot as I can tolerate. I had major food envy (hate when that happens, grrr!!) at my partners yellow thai curry. Again, the best of that dish that I've ever had. Feeling stuffed and fading, I finished with a double espresso. This got the heart ticking again haha. When back in Athlone, I'll be back here :) read more

Excellent Thai food and certainly up there with the best that I have had. Located not far from Sean's Bar down a side street but you won't miss the colorful walls that are adorned with awards and plaques. I did eat here before around 20 years ago when La Chateau used to be here - so we have now moved from traditional gourmet French to Thai cuisine. The prawn and mango salad was spicy but very good and the prawns were sweet and well cooked. The jungle curry wasn't as hot as I assumed but was still nice. Wine list is small but serves its purpose and they have some craft beers and ciders. Finished with homemade icecream that was very creamy and a good end to a meal like this. Why not a 5? Best Thai food I've had in a long long time!! Starter I had won ton wrappers that came with a fab plum dipping sauce. My main was Thai green chicken curry. Lovely kick to it. There was peas in it. I thought they were a v nice addition. I loved it when the chap that looked after us offered more rice to mop up the last of my sauce. The crockery is v pretty. Had a glass of white wine with our starter then red wine with the main. Funnily enough we had the same a couple of days later in an Italian restaurant in Dublin :) I tried two scoops of their homemade coconut ice-cream for dessert. It was DELICIOUS!! Lovely setting, tables aren't that close together. Service was a little reserved but the food is just incredible. Good Thai food but over priced. I am not sure why they have such an expensive menu, Thai food is cheap and cheerful. There is nothing fancy about it. Living in London, there is obviously loads of competition, so the price is usually low. But Thai food is particularly cheap, as it is no frills food. This Thai restaurant is good, food is good. Fantastic gluten free options (nearly the entire menu) and they are always willing to advise based on the level of spice you feel like. They even have gluten free ale! Have eaten here on a number of occasions sampling various dishes. The starters: have tried the prawn cakes which were a perfect mix of spice and prawn flavour with an almost meatball like texture, they are juicy and just melt in the mouth. The szechuan chicken skewers are also a nice light starter option with mild spice and a separate sauce with a peanut crunch. The fresh spring rolls are always filled with yummy crispy vegtables but would definitely be a starter to consider sharing as they are quite filling. Now for the mains: I have tried the green curry, the lamb curry and the yellow curry. The yellow curry comes with lovely chunks of potato in it and isn't that spicy but full of lovely flavours all the same. The green curry is a nice spice that leaves a slight zing on the lips once you've finished and very satisfying. The lamb curry was made to the level of spice I felt like both times so well worth a try for something different. The sweet pumpkin desert is an amazing treat to finish off the meal as it compliments the spice throughout. Book a table well in advance (about a week) if you're planning a night out as it can be quite busy. They do their very best to accommodate everyone and their staff are always very friendly! read more

Okay where oh where do i start with this one......... 1) NOT authentic enough but i do get this is a thai restaurant in Ireland where food is normally colourless, tasteless, saltless, all in all BLAND! No need to change your food THAT much to suit the local palate (and call it authentic thai)!!! I asked for VERY hot and spicy food and what do i get? The bare minimum heat!!!! Perhaps that's where you, Janya and your staff could ask how spicy as for example on the 10 star, 20 star scale etc...don't forget ppl do travel these days! 2) You Janya are RUDE!!! Learn some customer sevice skills please. I realise that your background was not as a restauranteur but you did know how to please customers in your motherland........try a bit more of that if you want customers to return. The last thing you want to do is leave a bad taste in people's mouth (yes pun intended)! And perhaps others will run back because of the hype but when the owner is so rude, i for one have too much respect for myself to NEVER be a patron there again!!! 3) Glad that you do cater to coeliacs as well but for the food to take 1 1/2 hrs!!!! PLEASE do yourself a favour and stop being so money hungry and get more staff!!!! Did you notice how claustrophobically long your takeout queues were?! So much so that patrons could barely get in the place. And yes we heard you telling customers without a reservation to go to your new restaurant around the corner...........jeepers how greedy are you woman!!! read more

What a pleasant surprise! We each had a curry dish. While they were each very different, the flavors were rich and balanced. We weren't sure what to expect having Thai in the middle of Ireland, especially expecting the quality we are used to from the major east coast cities in the US, but we definitely enjoyed this! read more

This was the best, most authentic Thai food I have had to date! In the middle of Ireland! My parents and I visited Athlone on our way to Dublin. Everything about Kin Khao was excellent. The atmosphere and interior design was great, the service was superb, and our meal was amazing! The menu is quite extensive, and we loved how it explained from where in Thailand each dish originates. The owner came to our table several times which made us feel very welcome. To top it off, the owner gave us a complimentary dish of their homemade ice-cream! All in all, an excellent experience and if I am ever in Ireland again, I will definitely be returning to Kin Khao. read more
