When in Brunswick, this is a MUST. For every birthday, Easter, valentines, etc. this is my GO TO…read morefor those thoughtful, unique gifts. It's gone through a change in ownership since my last review. While some of the items have changed, most has remained the same. The inventory has definitely grown and there's not as many "local Maine" items as there was. But it's all high quality, hand picked special things that need to find a home in your house. I just know whomever does the shopping to stock this store, is living their absolute best life when they go out on the hunt to source their products.

Well if this isn't the most charming store!…read more From their website: "Hatch On Maine is a clothing and gift shop offering an assortment of items selected with quality and individuality in mind. We love sourcing handmade and locally made treasures whenever possible. If you're looking for a new outfit, a present for a new baby and young ones alike, or a thoughtful gift for that hard to shop for person we are ready to greet you with a smile!" There's Maine-themed stuff, Maine-made stuff, ocean themed stuff, baby stuff, kitschy stuff, women's clothing, books, bags, candles, mugs, jewelry, and so, so much more. From my limited experience, they also really bring the holidays to life here, so if you were to visit around Easter it would be "dressed-up" differently than if you visited around Halloween. It makes you want to come back because... what seasonal gifties might you find?! A tiny chick-still-in-the-shell stuffed animal or an adorable bat print onesie? Depends on when you come. When I first came it was just to browse (I get the sense that if you wanted to visit, and reeeeaaaaally take your time just looking around, that would be totally okay!), but ended up buying 1) a really sturdy metal hair clip (that I was promised wouldn't break like all the plastic ones do) in white pearlescent and gold, and 2) *the cutest* retro, 90's-like, multi-strand necklace in pink cord, gold chain, and little cubes. Hard to describe, but it gives Taylor Swift Friendship Bracelet vibes. This warm and inviting place is one you really have to come see for yourself. Say hi to owner Hannah, she's positively lovely!

There are also classes and workshops that are offered at The Mix, including ones that support other local arts organizations, such as ArtVan. The Mix is one of my favorite spots in downtown Brunswick. Next time you are in need of some new paint, shop local, and give Leslie and her crew a visit!

That's The Mix. A totally non-judgemental arts and crafts store that appreciates you trying to make art and do crafts in a world increasingly not built for beauty, but for zeros and ones. I found everything I was looking for and so much more here: really sparkly embroidery thread that I never knew existed, gold pens that write oh-so-smooth, and locally made glittery watercolor paint (no gatekeeping here, it's Antimadder Art if you want to look it up). Genuinely, my partner had been craving colors exactly like these! Loving their new space; it's a big, old building with loads of windows to flood every nook and cranny with natural light! Be sure to sign up for loyalty points! There are workshops and product demos now! And in the summer they have live music on their porch! Go. Get your supplies. Say hi to Leslie; she's the art teacher you're missing in your boring adult life. #heartemoji

This is a collective where individual artists with various special needs create, display, and sell their work. Big wooden loom in operation onsite. She carries frustrations with her that are connected to the challenges she faces every day, and going to Spindleworks relieves that frustration for her. She enjoys creating art or fine crafts, but more than that, she expresses herself through her art in ways she cannot verbally. When she first began, she only created one simple form of finished work, but they encouraged her over s long period of time to branch out, and now she creates art in many different ways: painting, weaving, ceramics and more. And on the more practical side, Spindleworks has a store that you have to visit. The products are unique and expressive, and a good percentage of the purchases goes to the artists, as it should be. A new twist is that after you are done shopping in the store itself, you can explore the entire artist facility, as they also have items for sale on display in all the art rooms.
