The room is set up with different aspects of the real Ninja Warrior course (the tic-tac jumps, the ledge, the warped wall, the invisible monkey bars, the pull-up bar jump things--can you tell I don't know the real names of this stuff?). They also have vaults and crash mats so you can just play around. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable and fun. Our group of 10 had a blast in the space, even if we couldn't really do many of the things, we had fun trying or even just jumping from high spaces. The more athletic/better shape you are the more you'll be able to do, but I highly recommend renting out the space for a party or a group--it's very reasonably priced and you can work the obstacles that match your fitness level! Would definitely visit there or take classes if I lived in the area!

If I recall correctly, they only offered us the rate for unlimited time. We spent about 2.5 hours there and the girls seemed to have had a fun time. They did all they could. One of them was tall enough for the zip line. When we were there, there was an empty beer bottle on one of the benches. Thought that was a turnoff. It appeared that there was a number of people working there but no one seemed to have noticed that anomaly. Just not a good look for a place whose main clientele are kids. I also can't help but think how much time they spend in keeping the place maintained & cleaned. Somehow, I don't think they do and it makes me cringe when I think about it.

Although the bouldering section is relatively smaller (compared to the Portsmouth location which is entirely bouldering), there is a good variety of problems and wall angles, plus an additional smaller wall on the upper level. Price wise, I'd say it's a little steep especially if you only want to boulder (or only ropes- I wish gyms offered discounts for one type of climbing but I understand that would be difficult to track/enforce). And amenities are a little older/dated, but they do have showers, foot rinse stations etc. And a nice retail/merch section of front. For first time visitors - I know every gym has its standards/procedures, but the entire mandatory walkthrough and explanation of all classes/events offered is a bit overkill in my opinion. I think that is something that should be announced/posted on flyers and elaborated on in person on a case-by-case basis. His hope was that "The Oaks" would be "a public breathing space". Over the years, the park has evolved - in 1883 the bandstand was built, in 1887 the duck house and fountain were installed, in 1894 the Castle was built (as a hut for ice skaters to warm themselves), and in 1902 a playground was built. Fast forward to current age and Deering Oaks is the home to farmers' markets, the Festival of Nations, performances of all kinds, Twilight in the Park, and a whole host of other amazing events. We've truly done an excellent job at making it a unique-to-Portland area where people truly can decompress and enjoy nature (I almost touched a squirrel here once, but he realized I had no snacks and quickly lost interest; next time... next time...; it was also the home to our rare great black hawk for a spell). Yes, there parts of the park that might be "a little rough", but all in all it's BEAUTIFUL. Spring and summer brings on a million shades of green and wee ones playing in the wading pool; autumn is positively ablaze with orange and red hues; and during winter you'll see the tree with long arms covered in lights, along with hockey and ice skating on the pond! For me, it's one of the best representations of the seasons that Portland has. Here's my suggestion to you: if you see there's trash in the park, be a good citizen, and pick it up. Let's continue to make it the space that Wiliiam Goodwin had planned for us 'lo those many years ago!

They communicated with me regularly before the event - checking in to make sure I had everything and to see if there was anything they could do. There were fun options to occupy the kids before the "main event" - a fun, explosive mix of science experiments and theatrics. Corey was SUPERB with the kids; when things didn't happen the first time (as can happen with science!) he rolled with it unflappably and kept the kids happy and engaged. The owner is dedicated to his customers, wanting to be sure the experience is a great one that we have always known to have at Happy Wheels. The location is off the main road in Westbrook. It's interesting, because there doesn't seem to be any signage, we just mapped to it. The parking lot is ok, but seems small for when this place would be full. Again, I haven't been here for skating. The sound system is great, the floor is great and the lighting is fun! I would highly recommend this location if you are a skater or Zumba-er or a Roller Derby person - yes, I saw Roller Debry peeps after a Monday Zumba class.
