I have been here a few times at parties for other people and other events and this last time is the one that I will review. I booked a team building night with my team of 7 where the theme was the nightmare before Christmas and Muse did not disappoint. The host / teacher was funny and articulate and patient with a bunch of loud folks cracking jokes and having fun. If you are looking for something to do with friends or co-workers at a pretty inexpensive clip, then check this place out and get your Van Gogh on. I also thought the light behind the canvas was genius to be able to keep on track with bringing out your inner Picasso and it helped us to all deliver and make some pretty amazing pieces of art. The only drawback is that I wish that there were some more selections for apps or things. read more

I hate how Muse hasn't expanded to multiple locations in Portland! For those tapping into their creative souls or who want to explore that side, Muse Paintbar is excellent for you. It's also a fun date night to add to your list. This was my second time coming to a paintbar. All the paintbars I know in TX, allow you to BYOB. So, yes, it's always an even BETTER time! Muse provides small bites and drinks, but does NOT allow you to BYOB. Leave those bottles at home! They don't express or sale it out loud, but they do allow you to purchase wine bottles from them. HOW IT WORKS: A creative instructor teaches you step-by-step on how to paint the picture of the night. The class is for 2 hours, you get one break between the two. However, Muse is the perfect place to experiment with my painting abilities! I have been to Muse a couple of times and each time has been a great experience. The instructors are always nice and are very clear with their directions on what to do. With each session, they go through the steps one-by-one, so that it's easy for everyone to follow. They even set you up with the appropriate paint and brushes, and they also allow for variations of colors if you want to do that. Muse also has a bar where they serve beer, wine, and snacks. The Muse concept is great. You get some friends together, you go paint, and maybe even have a few drinks while doing it. Notice I don't mention eating while painting? That's because I'm trying to save you. Go out to dinner ahead of time or even cook some pizza rolls at home. Save your money for painting because it's a paint bar... their top focus is not the food they're serving you. I've been a couple of times now and have to say that in comparison to some other small businesses, Muse is way over commercialized and doesn't focus on the individual experience. If you do a public paint night, you'll be in an overcrowded room with little to no options on where to sit, who to sit with, what kind of music should be played, and how loud the music should be. My most recent experience was for a private party which was much better because we were in a small side room where every seat offered a view to the instructor. The instructor was great and did an awesome job personalizing a Harry Potter themed experience for my niece's birthday and even went so far as to have a Harry Potter soundtrack. The one problem I would raise (and did mention to the business) is that there is a door that leads directly into the private room that needs to have signage instructing others to use the public door. We had multiple interruptions from customers who were attending the public paint night that walked in and had to be instructed to use the other door or who would walk right through our room to get to the other side. Also, with no sound barrier between rooms, the public paint night party was blaring their music so loud that we had to listen to their music and our music. read more

The event was fun, I loved my painting. The drinks were ok. The reason for the lower score was the food. If you're going to microwave food that should be at least air fried, just don't /offer serve it. I was served a hot platter of mush and you could tell, this was their best effort. I wouldn't have served that to the dog I was painting. I lie, I would have I wish he was there to eat it. I will paint again. I will never spend my good money for them to microwave Sam's club pretzels and mozzarella sticks. Seriously mush! Last night was my second visit to Muse (the first was a yelp event). Let me put this bluntly: a blind man without hands probably has more artistic ability than me. So of course I was worried that I wouldn't enjoy painting and would embarrass myself. This is definitely not the case at Muse! The paintbar is set up to resemble a hip art studio (or at least my vision of one). There's a large main room with easels in various configurations. Each easel has a tray of paint in front and 5 paint brushes. There's a smaller back room for private parties. The enthusiastic, skilled and (thankfully) patient instructors are on stage and walk you through the painting of the day, stroke by stroke. They take time to inspect your progress and there's frequent breaks. It's a lively and social atmosphere that is pressure-free. Shockingly, everyone ends up with a very decent painting. I won't be confused for Van Gogh, but I'm proud of my work. Also in the main room is a bar that has a solid selection of wine and beer. The house wines are $5.75 and are definitely more than 5 ounces, so it's a great value. There is a food menu that I haven't tried but looked decent. Muse would be a perfect date night or just a great night out with friends. It's casual and very fun, even for those that are paintally challenged. read more

This is honestly the biggest studio I've ever been to for Muse. Very spacious! And art fulfills the place than any other location I've been to. We had planned our office party back in Dec. Due to a snow storm and the fact that our employees were driving from Auburn, we cancelled more than 24 hours before our scheduled time. Muse had already deducted from the credit card the full amt of over $1,000. Now we have to pay a $125 reschedule fee, ok I get that. But we have emailed them and tried to call to reschedule or obtain a credit for another time. Our employees work hard for their money and they state on their website "they" will determine cancellation in regards to bad weather, . . so they determine what is safe for our staff? We just want to reschedule! They have not replied to the emails and have not returned our calls. $1000.00 is a large amt of money for them to keep for no services rendered. read more

What a fun night out this is! I booked our paint night with 3 other friends and we really had a great time and came home with some cool art and memories. The staff is great. When we got there they introduced themselves and went over the evenings plans. They reviewed the brushes and the art we would be painting. The instructor went through every step giving tips and tricks along the way. We did a pretty entry level fall scene with birch trees and colored leaves. There was plenty of time to paint, and watch the paint dry while having a glass of wine or a beer, chatting with friends. The atmosphere is really chill, fun and encouraging for all artistic talent levels. I did not try the food, but a couple of my friends did and it was "meh." That is unfortunate, but I did not come to eat anyways! I look forward to coming here a few times a year and even bringing the kids! read more

At first I was nervous walking in because I'm not the most artistic, but the staff makes you feel so comfortable and encourages the students to not take themselves so seriously and just to have fun with it! The instructors are so nice and walk you through step by step but also give you the room to paint the way you want your painting to look, they're just there for guidance! I purchased this when I typed in Portland, Oregon for a paint nite with a friend. This showed up and i purchased it, few hours later when I saw the confirmation, it stated Portland, ME. I called the company right away and got hung up on several times and then emailed them. Finally got a text response but they aren't willing to refund even within 24hours. I don't want an online class bc that's not the experience I wanted. No business has ever done this and I'm pretty upset that they give a crap about customers. The first time I went to this place it was great. I had a lot of fun. I wanted to go back. So I asked my son if he would like to go with me for his birthday. I called way ahead and they told me I was all set and signed up. There was no mention that I had to pay in advance to keep my spot. So you want to paint. And you want to drink. Maybe you want to paint while you're drinking with your friends. If so... Muse Paintbar is the PERFECT outing. Doesn't matter how creative or how artistic you are, it's impossible not to have a great time here because chances are you're coming with people you like, you're channeling your inner artist, you're enjoying a little drinky drink and snacky snack, and in the end you get to leave with a keepsake: a one of kind, entirely original and never to be duplicated painting YOU MADE. It's very cool... and if you live with the people you're painting with, it's even cooler to then go home and hang up the alike, yet different pieces of art next to each other. After visiting Muse Paintbar with a huge group of some of my favorite people, I thought I'd come back for a more quiet, intimate experience. We had so much fun the first time, that we were excited to repeat the outing despite it being on the more expensive end of things. Thankfully, Muse often has coupon codes online that will knock off anywhere from 10% to 15% percent of your total, so for the two of us to paint on a Friday night it was around $75 (plus we spent an additional $40 for six drinks... not bad, right?). However, there were some things that kind of bummed us out (FYI, we were here on a Friday night from 8 to 10:30ishpm; and, I honestly think this is why we had some issues): - There were around 50 people in the room; only 2 of those people were men (my counterpart being one of them). The median age of the women there that night were "early twenty-somethings" or "middle-aged". We felt a bit out of place, especially since: - You don't get to choose your table mates. The two women we shared an area with abhorred men, and spent the entire time loudly bashing them. It made the person I was with feel very small and unwanted. - You don't get to choose your seat, either. We had possibly the worst seats in the entire room - sardined in the very back corner by the windows where the lighting is poor. At 5'2, I couldn't see the stage at all through the throngs of people or the easels. I frequently had to kneel on top of my steel stool to be able to see anything. Eventually I just gave up entirely and listened to her instructions. Segue... - Not every instructor is amazing. The first time I came, we had Brianna and she was PERFECT - engaging, helpful, patient, encouraging; this time around we got someone who didn't seem like they wanted to be there and also didn't explain what or how she was painting (she also erased parts of her painting only AFTER dictating to us what to do so she could start over... that just didn't seem right to me). - Beware the bar: our bartender this time around seemed to get frazzled extremely easy. At one point he was confused as to why we were standing there "in the way" after taking our money... he had never given us our drinks but was already on to the next people in line. And then, when we ordered a $9 prosecco the drink we received was either: a) the oldest, most stale prosecco I've ever had in my life or b) not prosecco at all. Unfortunately, because of our seats and the large number of people, we couldn't get back to the bar to ask about it. Do these things make or break the night? They don't. But they can be unpleasant if you don't know what to expect - and, if you think you're going to get the same experience twice... you're wrong. If we were to go again we would definitely not come on a weekend night, we would triple check who the instructor was, and we would only order drinks that came in bottles. Still - we had a great time when we focused on just each other and why we were there. And now we've got two fabulous paintings with funny stories from that night, so yay! read more

This is my second time I've gone here and I still am in love. It's so much fun to go with family, friends, date night and just melt some stress away. There is a different picture everyday. They have an instructor at the front of the class to walk you through the painting, but your allowed to add or not add whatever you like. It's nice to see something different in portland!! I decided to surprise my wife with a date night trip to Muse Paint Bar. Considering she is an artist... I figured this was something she'd love. And boy... was I ever right. The atmosphere inside Muse is energetic, hip, vibrant, and bright. And the other painters there were all VERY nice, polite, and fun to hang out with. In the next room was a very lively and fun group of women having a bachelorette party. There are colors and paintings everywhere... the exposed wood and pipes fit right in as how you'd expect a place like this to look. Definitely adds character. The drinks were not outrageously priced... I paid $4 for a beer and my wife $5 for a small glass of wine. We didn't have food, but the menu was unique and had options for any palette. We looked at the menu and decided we would eat there next time.... but really, it's more of a place to meet with friends, have a drink, and paint your masterpiece. You get a pretty large canvas, paints, and everything else you need... and can take the painting home with you. All in all, we were VERY happy with our experience at Muse and would definitely go again and recommend others who want something different to do in Portland... this is definitely different. read more

Had my first paint night here a couple days ago. Carrie taught the group and she was awesome. She was engaging easy going energetic and bubbly. She was always around to help guide all of the artists there and offer suggestions with technique and color. The painting I did was the hazy forest. There was a small bar and kitchen to buy beer wine or some snacks. The bar tender also does classes and was able to offer some tips if asked. They also took lots of pictures if you wanted both posed and candid shots and posted on facebook for you to see. Everyone had such different paintings from each other and from the master copy that we were replicating. Creative differences were encouraged and they all came out looking great. I've been here twice now and both time have been very enjoyable. Both time I have one with my wife to do a couples painting. The instructors make it easy to understand how to do the painting and explain that everyone's will be different The setup in the room seems a little unorganized and it seems some people have a bad view of the instructor. When you arrive you have to walk around trying to locate your name on an easel. There seems like there must be an easier way. I feel the instructor really makes the event. The instructor we had on Sunday was a little fast as he explained how to do the painting. Other than that, if you're looking for a fun evening out, give this a try. read more

My mother loves to draw, so when we took a weekend trip to Portland, I knew I had to take her here. I've heard of Muse Paintbar in Providence RI, but had not been before. I'm not much of an artist myself. We had a wonderful time here! We ordered a couple of appetizers and beers, and got started right away. They walk you through the entire painting at a good pace, especially for beginners. You can move with them or go ahead if you know what you're doing. You can also take some creative license with the painting - it doesn't have to look exactly like the model. A couple of hours later, my mother and I had wonderful souvenirs we created from our fun trip. I will definitely be taking her back here. Came as a family Xmas outing to do a painting. We were highly disappointed at the false advertising. The website discusses a free drink for everyone but upon arrival only select paintings were provided a free drink. Mind you, we were painting wine glasses which cost more than the other paintings. When asked further about it, the people at the bar were incredibly short. Overall bad customer service and a horrible first impression. Literally "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" I've been two times and it's always been an amazing time! From the atmosphere, bar/snack scene, attentiveness of the staff, music, supplies, subject of the work, instruction, accommodation, etc, etc. Everything was on point! And, side note - though my second time had been unexpectedly canceled soon before the event, we were reimbursed immediately, and given a 50% discount for another time. Because I had such a great time the first time, I jumped at the chance for a second time - especially because of the generosity of a 50% discount for another day. ...Customer service at its finest. People: this is a fun activity for any age, ability, reason for an outing - (good for company outings too!). So far, I gather, based on personal experience - this is a great company that understands the value of customer service and the value of customers leaving happy about their experience. I followed this place via Facebook while it was being built and when it opened I couldn't wait. So far I've been 3 times this summer Each time was unique, fun and lovely. Its a great place to go with friends or family and recently we went for a date night. You get to keep your painting after too, which turns out exactly right every time. The staff is so nice and sweet, willing to take your photo when your done, help out with ideas, or even help you paint something completely different!
