The Axe Pit was SO fun. The people working were very helpful in giving pointers on form and throwing to ensure you were safe and landed some bullseyes! I also liked the projection games-- they had a good range to choose from and they projected right onto the wooden targets. The bar/lounge was awesome too! We're in town for a funeral and were looking forward to spending some time with family who are home from the military. We made a point to plan responsibly, including having designated drivers, especially since there's a bar on location. We started the evening with a beer and lobster rolls elsewhere, then arrived at your establishment around 2000 hrs. We paid $25 per person, per hour, and ordered four drinks for our group of four. About 20 minutes later, we attempted to order another round and were told we were cut off. We respect management's right to make those decisions -- no issue there. However, what didn't sit right was that the group next to us, who appeared far more impaired, was then offered "last call" by the same manager who told us the bar was closed. That inconsistency is hard to ignore. We're more than capable of paying for a full night out, but when a group of civil servants -- including military family -- comes in to unwind responsibly and is treated this way, it's disappointing. We wish your business the best, but we won't be returning. We'll also be sharing this experience with others so they can make informed decisions when visiting from out of town. We attended a company event where we had the whole place to and it was really. The whole staff was very friendly accommodating and made us feel like we're in a big giant clubhouse with friends. Both inside and geared for fun. Bonus they had ninja stars, in addition to all kinds of battle, axes, and other weapons to throw. read more

We walked in on a Saturday around 5pm without reservations to see if they could accommodate. Luckily they had space but judging from the groups before and after us I would recommend booking ahead of time as it can get busy. We got our instructions as a big group and then split into our own parties. What was nice was that each set up (two targets) had about 6 different axes to utilize, all in different weights and sizes. This was nice! I tended to gravitate towards the smaller axes as they were easier to throw while my bf used the larger ones. The interesting part was that the axes can come apart (handle and head can become loose while throwing) and just need a couple taps to secure into place. This is so that they can change out the axe heads that are dulling, or resharpen them. However we frequently had to tap the axe heads into place to keep throwing the axes we liked, which would stop us from time to time. Overall this was a lot of fun! The staff don't give much insight while you're throwing but said they'd answer any questions you have. If you're looking for something really hands on with loads of instruction, go elsewhere. If you're looking for a place to throw, have thrown before, and want a more private experience, this was great! read more

We had a decent time throwing axes but overall the service was awful. I know you have to give safety instructions before but he talked for 15 mins of our hour time and he swore excessively. There were children there he shouldn't be swearing it was very unprofessional. It's also pretty pricey at $25 per person for only an hour and like I said it's really only 45 mins. The boards also were in not that great condition, seems liked they need updating. You can buy drinks there, and make sure to wear closed toed shoes. Overall not the best experience. read more

Any enjoyment we had during our time was dampened by the front counter staff. The unfriendliness of the guy bordered on combativeness. He seemed to be annoyed with everyone and everything. Although I liked the actual atmosphere but I would not recommend this establishment to friends for that reason. This place was a lot of fun. We came over here on a snowed in day with our 9 person team from work. We signed up online, filled out our waiver forms on line before hand, listened to a safety session then we were axe wielding champions. The staff was funny and friendly and you Doris also grab a snack out a beer during the hour long session of chucking axes. The layout is great, you could be as loud as you wanted and have fun along the way. We will divinely be coming back again!! read more

LOVE this place! I came here over the summer with my boyfriend on a whim, and we absolutely fell in love with this place. We have been back about 6-7 more times since then, and thoroughly enjoy our time every visit. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and super helpful. I usually check in with Orion (I think that's his name) at the front desk, and contrary to someone else's experience here, I have ALWAYS been pleasantly greeted upon entry, have been explained all rules right up front, and have been treated with the utmost respect and courtesy. Booking your appt is super easy, either online or over the phone. When you book your appointment, if you book online, it is VERY clear that you need to fill out a waiver. You go to the site to book, and the directions state very clearly that you need to fill out a waiver prior to your appointment. Once you book your appointment, you get an email confirmation which again, clearly states the waiver needs to be filled out (and if I'm not mistaken, it is either attached to the email or there is a link). If you book over the phone, they always are sure to mention that you need to fill out the waiver prior to your appointment (which is very easy to find on their website). There should be NO complaints about needing to do this as you are LITERALLY THROWING AXES. Of course you will need to fill out a waiver. The guys are just trying to do their job and make sure everyone is safe. When I initially started coming here over the summer, we needed to wear masks inside, but could remove them at our own stations. It was pretty slow the first few months after they re-opened so social distancing and sanitizing sufficed, but since it has become a lot busier, they have had to make adjustments to their policies, hence needing to wear your masks the entire time unless you are taking a sip of your drink. They wipe down each station and the axes between parties, and I have NEVER had someone approach me to say my mask was down for too long. If you follow the rules, you are fine. Again, they just want everyone to be safe. I have had such a wonderful time here, and have clearly come back several times for a reason, and will continue to do so. I know these are tough times, but you are doing the best you can and we are grateful to have a place to come to like this where we can blow off some steam and have a little fun. Rude, condescending, angry staff, who clearly have an issue with women and customers. Absolutely would not recommend this facility. We give the service a 2 and the facility a 3. To say these dudes are miserable is an understatement. They truly seemed annoyed by us, especially that we arrived a few minutes late. We already paid for our lanes, not sure why they are so annoyed. We were a group of 10 girls and there was a group of 5 guys next to us. The safety monologue was targeted towards us, never once did he glance at the guys. Not appreciated. When buying drinks, the bartender kept his hands in his pocket, also seeming annoyed by us. Overall with a little charisma, maybe some axe games like I've experienced in other axe bars, they could land themselves some tips. 7/10 would not recommend. If you have a group of 4 you only get one target so I wish that was not the case. I get if it's busy but maybe when there is less people you can get 2. If your a group of 5 or more you do get 2. I love going here, it is very enjoyable to throw an axe and have it land in the board, incredibly satisfying. But one particular employee can go screw himself since he thinks that it is a smart idea to blow an air horn right when I am about to throw an axe, only for the reason that we were a minute past our hour we paid for. It is completely unsafe to me and the people around me since I almost hit my friend with an axe since I was startled by the sound of the horn. Next time, smarten the hell up, actually take the time out of your apparently busy schedule, and tell us that we've passed our hour limit instead of risking the lives of me and everyone around me. read more

This was the first and only time I will visit The Axe Pit in S. Portland, ME. To start, this was a group I was with for a birthday party, so we were very well aware and prepared for COVID precautions/rules to follow while there. This was understandable. The immediate confrontation and general annoyance of the employees that will not be mentioned (not by name since I don't know them) however, was not predicted. As soon as we entered we were not greeted, just asked for a name and what time our reservation was for. We were then asked if we filled out our waivers online. We were not aware of the waivers, so we proceeded to do them online upon checking in. One of the members of our party was unable to pull up the waiver on her phone, even though all directions were followed as to how to get there. When my friend mentioned she was unable to get to it, the same employee who did not greet us and was visibly annoyed that said waivers weren't filled out, extremely condescendingly asked her if "she was spelling the word waiver correctly." During the process of checking in, another member of the party asked if we would be able to buy drinks while there. He was told "we will get to that" and received the same response when requesting to pay for an additional zombie target. We finally got through the horrendously rude check in process and proceeded to observe the lesson we were given. (Still no questions about the drinks or targets had been answered , even when we requested info about that two additional times) once we began to throw, it's unclear why, but all employees were hovering around our group, scowling from behind the bar, yelling out corrections that needed to happen (not even with the throwing techniques but where we were standing even though previously told we just needed to be behind our individual counter when not actively throwing). At this point, myself and some others from the group decide it's time for a beer. One because we've just paid 20$ for a hour of being babysat by pissed off grown men, and two because that clearly is all that's going to make this experience worth while. We buy the beers after figuring out how to go about that since again we were told "we'll get to that" but in fact never did. I've overheard these men tell another group that they can pull their masks down when actively drinking and otherwise it needs to be up. Again, understandable even though we shouldn't have to eves drop to get the info that was due to be explained . In between my first sip of my beer and the second , one of the men approached me and told me that he "just counted 15 seconds in between my first sip and second" and that I "needed to pull my mask back up." The bottom line is, each and everyone of us works in a public setting where COVID rules need to be followed. We get it , and furthermore did not set out to push boundaries. We simply did the best we could with the minimal info that was given and then were made to feel like a pack of assholes for trying our best to understand the rules that were not explained to us even when requested multiple times. These guys were ungodly rude and acted like a pack of teenagers angered by the fact that they were at work. Ten out of ten would not recommend. read more
