Michaels is my second option when I'm in this area and need something for my event planning or crafting needs. I think the thing that makes me bypass them for their nearby competitor is the price. I'm always quite taken aback when I purchase something simple - like a bag of glittery sand - only to find it costs what it does. I do appreciate the random and unexpected deals Michael's seems to offer. The first time I shopped there, the cashier kindly hooked me up with some insane percentage off that had to do with their emails (which I wasn't signed up for, but maybe this was their way to entice me?). Since then I've been back and looked for other great deals, but they're always for something hyper specific (all the 2x6 canvas you can shake a stick at, giant wooden letters but only T's and W's, brown colored yarn with red swirls). From marketing booths to super cool themed events, though, Michael's has come to the rescue (not without some creative thinking on my part, a big budget, and a cup of delicious coffee to accompany me into the lion's den that is the place!). read more

I stopped in because I needed foam board. I found it and it was on sale for $2.99, I shopped around and then saw some higher priced and went back to where I originally found it and it was indeed on sale. I got to the register and it came up at $5.99. I pushed the ask for assistance button and the person who was supposed to assist, just stood there daydreaming doing nothing. She looked over once and then looked away. I tried to get her attention but she was busy drinking and just standing there leaning on her computer. I waited and then just left. If you do not want to have registers to wait on people, at least have the person who is supposed to help do more than just stand there and ignore customers. No wonder everyone goes on line to buy things. read more

Logan cashed out my youngest daughter (age 10) a couple of weeks ago on August 11 with her gift card and was incredibly kind and patient all while showing her the ropes on how to use the card swiper for her first time. I was in route heading to a wedding, stopped by this store to grab some bubble rap. I had a picture that was framed with me at the store. I didnt have scissors or tape or anything to rap around snd secured on to the frame. Ky , the Cashier who was ringing me in was very generous and assisted me in cutting ,rapping and tapping the bubble rap around my frame. Keep in mind this is a time when shes very busy, having been blown off by the framing dept supervisor a few minutes earlier. I really appreciated her attentiveness. A whole lot of stuff The first Michael's Arts & Crafts open in Texas around 1976. Since then it has spread throughout the country and into Canada and now operates over 1,000 stores. This Michael's is similar to the rest with zillions of different items for every conceivable arts or craft project. Most of the stores are also very seasonal and during the holidays offer special items and weird things for just about anything you can think of. I like this particular store because it is large, clean and has very friendly and useful staff. There is just so much stuff that it can be difficult to find certain obscure items, but the employees that were asked always knew exactly where to find what we were looking for. A wonderful store for crafty and creative people. If you can't find what you need for a project in this store then it probably doesn't exist. read more

I have been a frequent visitor to Michaels over the past several years and have always found what I needed at a very reasonable price. Today I was looking for the perfect contemporary frame for a project my wife is working on. She has been opsessed with taking photos of letters that are formed by objects. Then her plan is to use these photos as a way to create words, names or even phrases. She really is crafty like that. The store is well organized and has a large frame selection. I was impressed by the sales associate who was very helpful and even scanned an additional coupon that saved me even more money on top of the 60% coupon I already used. I was able to scan my coupon using my phone, which was a huge convenience. In the past, I have found this craft place plentiful with scrap booking items. read more

I can usually find what I need here, although there have been times I've had to go to Walmart for basic products they don't carry or better pricing. This store definitely needs a facelift. The floor is always dirty, the shelves are always dusty and all of the shopping carts are broken. The frames look like they all came from the bargain bin, even the more expensive ones. Many have chips, dents, broken pieces and damaged packaging from shipping/storage/customers? I don't know. I only come here for a select few items now like paint or craft paper. Everything else I can find at other stores for a better price and better quality. The employees are always very nice though..... if you can find one. read more

When I take a vacation now, I tend to buy some local artwork and then bring it by Michaels custom frame counter. I've done this several times now, and am always happy to see Robert as he is wonderful to work with in selecting what frame would look best with my new paintings. Michaels typically gives 2 weeks to get the work done, but it always seems to take less time than that. I would not hesitate to recommend Michaels for custom framing. read more

I have been to our local Michael's several times, about two or three times a year. Allow me to sum up my findings. Selection: Michael's has a large selection of craft supplies for just about any craft you can think of. Baking, scrapbooking, photography, painting, floral decorations... EVERYTHING. Their store has a very good selection of commonly used and needed items, and it's almost always in stock. The store also has MANY of the items you find online, so you can go in and put your hands on something you scoped out online. Pricing: Eh, not bad, not great. You can get most things cheaper online (not the Michael's website), but they do have coupons in their sales flyers frequently up to 40% off one item. However, they do not have any sales flyers in the store, so if you don't print it out ahead of time, you're screwed. Employee knowledge: If you can find an employee, they generally don't know enough to help you. Granted, there are more activities in one building than a single person can be expected to have mastered, but shouldn't they at least be able to find someone who can answer your question? Customer service: I always have to wait in a line, but the cashier is generally friendly enough. A for effort on their part. As a whole, the store is great (if you know exactly what you need) and affordable (if you plan ahead and bring your coupons). read more

I left a 16 x 20 acrylic painting to be framed at Scarborough Michael's 2 weeks ago and was told it wud be ready Aug. 17. First, "Karen" told me it couldn't be done (staple the painting over a cheap blank 16 x 20 canvas, then insert into a half-price16 x 20 wooden frame w/out glass). When I told her I've done this 6-8 x at Michael's in OH and FL for all my grandchildren, she changed her story and wrote it up - for $112. I drove 20 mi each way to pick it up last night and it hadn't even been started. They are understaffed and over-priced. After waiting an hour to learn it was not even started, I got my overcharged money back and framed it myself back at home in 20 minutes last night with the canvas and frame I'd already paid for. Hardest part was finding a roll of hanging wire around my house. But - no ripoff and it looks fine. Skip Michael's! read more

The woman at the framework counter at Michaels in Scarborough was one one the most lazy people I've had the displeasure of trying to do business with. She made up every excuse as to why she could not do something as far as cutting a Matt for a frame. Was told it would take at least 2 to 3 weeks when it would have taken 10 minutes to do. Don't waste your time at this store.... 20 minutes of my life I will never get back. Ugh read more

Just lost my business today. If you expect to get waited on for framing, good luck. Invariably, you will be stuck behind the ONE person who is basically hanging out for an hour hemming and hawing over their frame and mat selection for a poster. And since there is only one staff person, you wait and wait and finally walk out. There was not even any acknowledgement from the one framing person on duty (example: "Hi. This may take another hour if you'd like to wait," probably would have been appropriate.) read more

Had a very positive experience with Michaels and their framing. I don't think they handle anything in house as far as assembling frames. The women behind the counter really helped me find the best and most cost effective framing option for me. I really appreciated their time and ideas. I also loved that they were always having a sale. I know you can get express framing with a 2 day turn around but you have to pick the frame or the whole assembly in about two weeks read more
