Buyer Beware - Bait and Switch:…read more I was looking for a place to get highlights in my hair. There is a salon close to my home. When I stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon, I was told partial highlights would be 95.00 and I made an appointment for that Saturday. When I got home I told my husband I had made an appointment. He asked if it was Bishop's Salon. He mentioned our neighbor went there and liked the salon. I called Bishop's and asked how much the cost was to do partial highlights. The woman I spoke with said highlights done by the associate would be $90, or an appointment with the owner would be 140.00 because of her experience. I made an appointment with the associate and I then canceled the first appointment I made with the first Salon. I arrived for my appointment at Bishop's at 9 and Zaynab took me back right away. She did a nice job and the highlights looked good. As I was checking out, a woman named Frederica, said the total was $150.00. I let her know that when I booked the appointment they quoted me $90.00 with Zaynab or $140.00 with the owner, Mitzi. Frederica told me $90.00 was for color, not partial highlights (although I specifically requested partial highlights when I called to ask the price). I paid it since the work was done and there was no price list in the shop to refer to, only my telephone conversation. When I got home I told my husband about the change it price, we decided to go back and speak with the owner. The girl that checked me out was at the counter and I asked her to explain the $60 price difference again to the two of us. She said it was for color, not highlights. I asked to speak to the owner. When Mitzi came to the counter, I explained that I was quoted $90.00 and that I canceled the appointment with the other Salon because the prices quoted were close. She said: "No one at Bishop's would have said that." and asked "Don't you I think that $140 was a fair price?" I told her she could charge whatever she wanted, but I was quoted $90.00. Mitzi said, "I don't believe you." At that point we left the salon, there would have been no point in further discussion since she essentially called me a liar. If they would have quoted me 140.00 for the partial highlights, I would have just kept the appointment at the first salon. Zaynab did a fine job with the highlights of my hair. My complaints are with the price charged vs what i was quoted and secondly the rude way I was treated when discussing the situation with the owner.

Look, if Hair World is surviving the rent in Maxwell, Nashville, TN in the year of our Lord 2023, they have to be doing something right -- and had to have been doing it for quite some time because they've been at the location for a minute and we all know that rent isn't cheap. More power to them. As with all things in life, change is constant. The change I have been experiencing is with my hair- specifically, my hair texture/grade. As a young(er) man, I didn't value and take care of my really awesome hair. I didn't investigate proper care. I didn't care about products. I didn't educate myself on techniques to make it shine. I lucked into some good styles and let the very basics do the rest. Fast forward to now and those glory years are well behind me. I needed to invest in what the kids are calling 'protective care.' I set off to Hair World and found the people, products and advice I needed to enter into this new phase of hair care. Useful products. Helpful people. I will return (if needed).

There's definitely an ambiance of Southern hospitality! My stylist (Amber) not only found a way to cut through my overgrown sheepdog mop of hair, she managed to pretty much replicate the style in the photo that I brought in for guidance. So yeah, I liked the haircut a lot. More importantly, my wife thought it looked good. I appreciated Amber's good humor, her attention to detail, as well as the hot towel treatment and scalp massage she administered while washing my hair after the cut. I felt like the cut was excellent value for the money (men's cuts start at $25, women's cuts starts at $40, per the salon's website). My only quibble? It would be nice if there were a coat closet or rack or something in the waiting room so that customers don't have to try to hang winter coats on small hooks next to the styling tables. I did like the fact that there was both hot coffee and cucumber water on offer in the waiting room, although I did not have a chance to try either. Overall, this salon is a great addition to a burgeoning downtown Nolensville scene (and just a hop, skip and jump from quality meat-and-three cuisine at Nana's, where I'll be trying the catfish on my next visit thanks to Amber's recommendation).

I asked for babylights through the transition part of my hair, a silver gloss, and a layered haircut. After 4 hours and this putrid color, the stylist hadn't even gotten to the cut yet. I left without the cut or blow-dry/style. Anyone who has ever gone through the process of trying to grow color out of hair knows this isn't just about getting a one time bad color. Even if I was refunded my money, I'd still need the fix for the immediate hair plus 2 years of ongoing maintenance color. This is literally a cost to me of over $1k plus the hours and hours I will have to commit to it again. My hair feels like straw, when it was very healthy going in. Plus, there's just the fact that I'm old. 2 years is significant. I am furious. More so at the management than the stylist. This was her first day...part of the reason for 4 hours. I stopped in to CoCapelli mid June because I was searching for someone that specialized in platinum blonde color. I found Alivia on their website and stopped in to see if I could get a consultation scheduled. I was informed that she was out with a broken arm and a different stylist was recommended. I told the receptionist that I have complex hair, need someone very well versed in platinums and I wanted to make sure the stylist I got had over 10 years experience. She assured me the stylist she was recommending was the right fit, scheduled an appointment for my hair to get color on July 19th. I reached out to this stylist and requested a consultation in advance to make sure she fully knew what I was wanting done and could see why I was letting my natural light brown color grow out since last year. She texted me back that a consultation was not necessary, I was going to be her last appointment that day and we'd have plenty of time to talk. Red flag #1. I did send her pictures of my current hair color, and the pictures of what I was trying to achieve with putting some platinum in it but not wanting a lot of that because I had to have very low maintenance color, I could not come back every 8 weeks to get my color redone. I wanted to have it mostly my natural light brown color with some platinum added in for dimension and high contrast. So I get to my 1:00 appointment and meet her, very sweet, but I find out that I am no longer the last appointment, she is saying I was booked for foils and should have been booked for balayage and we have to get going. Red flag #2.... I did ask if I should reschedule, and she said no no no, we can make this work. I once again showed her the pictures of brown hair with some streaks of platinum worked in but a lot of the base color was still there and there was a lot of contrast between that and the platinum. When we got back to the chair after color, wash and rinse, she had a heck of a time brushing out my hair. It was very snarled from all the back combing and she wasn't hurting my scalp pulling my hair so hard but I was concerned it was stretching freshly colored hair and damaging it (later I find out I do have broken hair!). We finally got it brushed out and then started talking about a cut but by now we were quickly running out of time. She cut the back in a V like I asked her to, trimmed the sides but after talking about point cutting my bangs, never got around to it. She started blow drying my hair and just kept saying "oh it's so pretty" over and over - Red flag again. When I looked in the mirror, I commented about how much blonde there was and she said "all I did was follow what your previous stylist did". My heart sank. If I wanted that, I would have gone to my previous stylist and that's not at all what I asked you to do. By the time she got the blow dry done, I was speechless. Most and I do mean most, of my light brown hair was all gone. She put so much blonde in my hair and then all of my bangs are now bright yellow and there is this lovely (NOT) orange glow on the top of my head that I couldn't hide if I wanted to. I tried to like it, for her sake. She put a lot of work into it and a lot of time but it's not what I wanted, I've had the overall blonde look before, many times, it's not what I wanted at all and not what I waited 10 months for. And then she was in such a hurry to get out of there that she didn't even tell me about the product she recommended at the start of the appointment that would help take care of my hair after she did it. I had a trim scheduled for September but by the time Tuesday rolled around I was too upset after having to look at this mess all weekend. I called Tuesday to cancel that appointment and the receptionist that answered is the same one that was there when I got my hair done. I told her to cancel my cut, I'm not coming back. She asked why and kept pushing until I told her. She said they are very customer service oriented and truly care about their clients there and their happiness and that she'd have the owner call me about it and try and fix it. Well it's now been over 2 weeks since that phone call and there has been no phone call from anyone and no text messages so it's obvious they don't care about their clients. They got my money once but it will never happen twice. Now I have to start all over again trying to get my natural color to grow back out with all this blonde, it's going to look awful!
