Tempura

Food is good but tempura is not like the tempura they serve before before. Fried rice is not the same as before, its kinda malabsa but food is still good.

Michael Anton E.

Teppanyaki room is a bit small. The chef told us that, with Unimart's impending relocation to its big new building, Kimpura itself might be moved as well. Service was on point, and the teppanyaki set was very filling.

Review Highlights - Kimpura

I haven't tasted teppanyaki as good as the ones at Kimpura so that's what I keep coming back for.

It's 8 pieces and after 6 I'm already full. Tempura was nothing special. Came with 4 pieces of shrimp tempura and one piece of okra tempura and miso soup. The food isn't amazing but it's not bad! Definitely satisfies my futo maki craving. I think it's a great place for big groups. It's not the cheapest Japanese restaurant maybe it's better even just go to a buffet like Sambokujin. But it's location is easy to get to and I'm satisfied after the meal. I'll be back and hopefully I part ways with my futo maki and get a different dish. :)

Castor, it's across the 24-hour Family Mart and is near Afters Espresso and Dessert. Parking is a little bit difficult. It seems like they don't have the same valet service as the Makati branches. Compared to the other branches, this new one is definitely more brightly lit and spacious. They still have the bar seating and booth seating on the first floor. Then there are more booths on the second floor, along with some private rooms for groups. If you're having a hard time choosing your order, the bento boxes offer great value for money and allow you to try a handful of dishes. I'm always a fan of their shrimp tempura, fish tempura, their soba and the spicy tuna maki. I did notice, however, that the spicy tuna maki in this branch seems to be smaller in size than the Makati branches. In any case, it's still really good stuff. This branch also offers the grilled items that you can grill at your table. I personally like the US Karubi and US Rosu. The restaurant was quite busy on a Saturday night so make reservations or prepare to wait in line. It's worth it though!

Upon checking the menu, the price points is almost the same and even the plating shares the same look. I confirmed that the two is part of i Foods Group including Ichiba Japanese Market in Resortsworld. The setting is really esteemed. There are salient points on food. The takoyaki is overcooked, ramen is ordinarily prepared, and the spicy salmon maki is not at all spicy. There is nothing special on the broth of the ramen soup. The price points can be reasonable though. The commendable ones are Tempura, fresh salmon sashimi and yakitori. Service is also efficient. As a mother's day treat, they serve a free dessert for customers that reaches Php1500 food orders.

Ambience and Experience Our good friend Diane invited us to…read moretry the Kamameshi Rice at this restaurant where her brother works as a chef. Of course, this got our entire group pretty excited and I'd go for treats anytime if I can! It was great that they already had a table ready for us when we arrived. :) Wide spaces, seat options, and bright lights made the place look really exciting. Their restroom had an amusing sink knob located at the extreme lower right, away from the sink. California Roll This is an easy default for any Japanese roll to try. Theirs was good, refreshing in the mouth, simple, and tasty! Salmon Sashimi This tasted slightly different from what we usually eat at other Japanese restaurants but it was as good as always. With just the right amount of soy sauce and wasabi, I was all set. Takoyaki This was nearly a tie-breaker for first place in my book. It was SUPER GOOD! Texture and filling were just amazing! Tori Teri Kamameshi It's basically teriyaki chicken on kettle rice. This restaurant taught me that there is actually a name for the burnt rice at the bottom, and it's called "Okoge." I've had lots of good burnt rice experiences elsewhere (not only Japanese) but I'm not sure if the reference would still be the same since they weren't kamameshi. Tori Teri was pretty good with tender chicken and flavorful sauce. It can get addicting! Yakitori Everything essentially came smothered with teriyaki sauce. We tried the Baby Octopus, which was slightly chewy and very similar to eating squid. Quail Eggs were, well, eggs! I can't say much about it. Eggs! Chicken Liver was my favorite for the texture and flavor. I'll always try Chicken Liver if the restaurant has yakitori. Service Overall experience was good since we arrived. Lester tried to convince Diane that the Baby Octopus, which she resisted to try, was "kyut kyut." :p Big thanks to her bro Chef Von and the restaurant's other staffers for good food and service! Prices are VAT-inclusive and expect service charge.

It isn't usually where you'd expect to find a traditional Japanese restaurant which makes you question the quality of the food they offer. One night, I decided to give them a shot and I was so not disappointed. Yutaka Izakaya actually has a very intimate setup. The chef hails from Japan and he has brought with him the simple and authentic flavor of our usual favorites like the different kinds of sushis and makis. Their tempura is also topnotch, bathed with the right amount of batter, making it light and delightfully crunchy. I would recommend their sukiyaki don which is pretty much a bowl of your fave hearty sukiyaki poured over rice and topped off with a raw egg. If you're in the mood for some Japanese food in the Q.C.-San Juan area, this place is a definite must-try!

How crazy is that? I also like their Tempura with rice. For three pieces and a bowl of rice, it was only Php 186! Lastly, I tried another sushi dish which was basically rice topped with lots of salmon sashimi bits. This was good and cheaper than an entire serving of salmon sashimi (which was too much for one person anyway) so I opted for it instead. The restaurant is very simple, a hole in the wall type. But they do have good and affordable food. The choices aren't that crazy or out of this world, but are rather simple, yummy, Japanese food. There's a lot of parking space outside but it can get pretty dark at night because of the lack of proper lighting so be vigilant when getting in and out of your car.

You know the feeling when you crave for Japanese food and you just really want to be satisfied and fulfilled with your meal? That is usually what I get from eating at Kimono Ken. My favorites would have to be their Beef Tepenyaki, Epi Tempura and Japanese Fried Rice. These three staples would definitely satisfy my Japanese craving. Unfortunately, Japanese food does not come cheap. So when I'm low on cash, I end up ordering their Chicken Katsudon which is equally satisfying. Make sure to ask for an extra serving of their special sauce to make sure you get all your rice soaked in that yummy sauce.
