The best Japanese restaurants, in my opinion, aren't the ones found in shopping malls. It's nice to see places like Akira around though, that at least gives mall goers an option for decent sushi and teppan.
I've been to Akira several times (Shangri-la Plaza and this Robinson's Magnolia branch). For a mall Japanese restaurant, the sushi and sashimi selection is better than the usual. Part of the selection is ikura (salmon roe) and hamachi (yellowtail), two of my favorite varieties aside from the usual uni that most mall Japanese restaurants already carry. The teppanyaki table is also a nice addition. With all the tricks and moves up the chef's sleeve, having someone prepare teppan for the party never gets old. You might want to try Akira's bottomless iced tea as well, as it's a notch above the usual mall Japanese joints' too. read more
