Not only is it my first day back living on the glorious Gloucester Road after a 9 month hiatus, but I finally got round to trying Dain Korea, a new(ish) Korean restaurant just up from the arches. From the outside I'll be honest, it looks a bit tacky. It certainly doesn't look less than 12 months old, which it is. But it looks interesting, which is why I'd been looking forward to coming. Inside was a bit of a surprise. There was the expected plain tables with chop sticks, but with a wooden, thatched style hut over the counter. It didn't really fit, but I loved it for its character. It was pretty funny! On to the food: very good! Unfortunately I don't know much about Korean food. Bristol has some superb Asian restaurants, but we're not quite as developed at London or Birmingham - so Korean food is something of a welcomed new coming. That said, i thoroughly enjoyed the noodles. They were very wet but with tons of flavour. They actually brought me out a little plate of pickled vegetables and a small plate of yellow beans to start and the noodles came with a delicious Miso soup. The miso was darker than any I have had before and probably tastier than any other as well. This is a great little spot. Not that it needs to be plush to be good, but it a little polish around the edges and this place would be great to eat in as well. I'll be back (no Arnold Schwarzenegger voice attached here)

Very bad experience. Rude waitress. Anyway, is real Korean…read morerestaurant, but if you wish a high quality service, better don't come and choose another restaurant.

I have tried to get into SKK for lunch a few times over the the last couple of weeks, but they had sold out of everything every time I tried. So even after a big breakfast, I decided to head down early to avoid disappointment. Now, from the outside, Sky Kong Kong doesn't look that appealing. The sign above the door looks like my 2 year old nephew did it with some crayons, but I really like it. I like being unenthused walking into a restaurant and then blown away by the time I walk out. Inside can only be summed up as quirky. There are 3 long tables with around 10 chairs on each and a few books about Asian food and art. It looks as if its been put together in a few hours, and it probably was. But again, I really like it. It works! Now onto the food: wow! They have a two course bento menu that changes daily and today it started with a tomatoes an cherry dish. Unfortunately I didn't get all the details of this dish, but essentially it was sliced tomatoes, cherries and a delicious olive oil dressing. It was really refreshing and for somebody that doesn't love tomatoes, I demolished it! Unfortunately, but in true SKK fashion, they had run out of chicken for the main. So I had pan seared salmon instead: oh, go on then ;) That came with a courgette & parmesan pancake, cabbage with chorizo, wild rice and another cabbage dish. It was seriously good. For £6.50 it was amazing! This is definitely a five star lunch if ever I've had one!

Excellent value lunch - had bento with kimchi, tuna maki some California rolls all delicious and…read morefresh. All organic too! Hidden away behind the bus station and the premier inn - wasn't sure what to expect, but really impressed especially as the bento was only £3 Think I'm going to be lunching here a lot more

As for the grill, I waited for our garlic, witch complement the meat, until we finished two dishes. And we received cold dish starter that we did not order, I assumed it should be a free gift(this case for most Korean restaurants). The waitress questioned me while we were eating, and took it back. The entire meal is not worth the money.

She asked me a series of questions to see what dishes I might like. She helped me pick a starter and some side dishes. I am a massive fan of Bulgogi, which is why I came here. She recommended that I try the Bulgogi barbeque style. Korean Grill refers to the Korean method of grilling beef, pork, chicken, or other types of meats and vegetables. The meat is grilled right at you table. They apparently use the latest technology grills, which is an electric bio ceramic table barbeque which retains the taste, but at the same time, drains the fats and extra oil out of the meat. With my Bulgogi barbeque, the matron recommended that I also ordered the Sangchoo & Par moochim (lettuce and seasoned spring onions), pajori (spicy scallion, spring onion salad) and ssamjang (a spicy paste made of soy bean paste mixed with chili paste). The the traditional Korean way of consuming BBQ is to wrap the a slice of the meat, vegetables, a dab of chili paste sauce, rice with lettuce and immediately eat with your hands, in one bite the matron advised me. The Korean Grill offers over 60 dishes, inluding 13 side dishes. They also do fresh Kimchi, which has officially been announced as one of top 5 world's healthiest foods. The next time I am in Bournemouth, I will definitely visit the Korean Grill again. It's a real gem.
