I remember when this place first opened - a friend of mine worked a sales executive for a radio station selling air time and this was one of here clients. So to show a bit of support a few of us went along and I don't know why but I wasn't expecting much - of course i was wrong (probably the 1st time ever!). The food is plentiful and very tasty indeed. I say plentiful but its still one of those places where you feel you could have eaten a lot more. It's also one of those places where you feel like approaching the chef and saying - how did you make this? It's not a huge place and due to its popularity can get quite full at busy times so call a head evening and weekends and especially weekend evenings.

One of those experiences that changes your perception of food. The first time I went here it was mind altering in the sense that I really enjoyed the raw fish which a lot of people still have issue with. Ask sushi restaurants go, prices are at a good low level and the only way you could get better is to compromise on quality and taste and go to an all you can eat buffet restaurant. I wouldn't choose to go here for noodles as I generally wouldn't eat noodles in a restaurant. If you want a real authentic tasting sushi experience Tenkaichi provides a great menu to choose from. I have always been a fan of all things Janpanese and here is another great export.

This just has to be my favourite Japanese place in all of Cardiff. The menu is vast and offers something for even the pickiest of eaters. It's tiny and usually packed full of people so if it's a Friday or Saturday night probably best to phone in advance to avoid disappointment. There is a rich menu of noodles, sushi and rice dishes but I inevitably always opt for a bento box. For under £12 you can get a choice meat, fish or Veg fried or otherwise served with miso soup, salad, a few pieces of sushi, dumplings and a mound of steamed rice. It's really filling but doesn't make you feel lethargic, just satisfied. I'd probably have one every day if it wasn't so far from my house.

Imagine my shock upon finding a sushi place that does amazing crazy American-style rolls in Cardiff! A firm recommend from me. *NOTE: You MUST book in advance. The restaurant is tiny and extremely popular. We booked in advance for my birthday meal and it was filled to the brim. We witness the host needing to turn away quite a few people who showed up without a reservation. If you don't have a reservation, you might end up disappointed. --- ~ Atmosphere: It's a tiny little restaurant with cramped seating. It's nice and clean, but I wouldn't recommend it for large groups at all. ~ Customer Service: The only downside. Don't get me wrong, everyone was very nice but I think it was understaffed when we showed up. There was only one waitress and she acted as a host/server/waitress for an entire filled-to-the-brim restaurant. She was always busy with something that it would take quite a while to flag her down. It took quite a while before our orders were finally taken but from that point the food didn't take too long to arrive. ~ Food: Fantastic. We ordered a selection of different Maki Rolls which came on cute bridges used as platters. My recommendation would definitely be Yellow Dragon, which is a roll of salmon, avocado and cucumber topped with melted cheese. For £7.80 it was well worth it. The prices were fair so it was fun to order a bunch of rolls to see which are the favourites. I left full and without a massive hole in my wallet. Will definitely be making a return trip! TIP: Don't skip the mochi for dessert!

I was super excited to see Korean fried chicken on the menu... Then I was super disappointed when my order came out. It was just their karaage with what tasted like barely-doctored bottled Thai sweet chili sauce. The worker who was in charge of our table was an absolute nightmare. She was a short Asian woman--I didn't get her name. She was extremely rude to the group and very short. It got to the point where we didn't even want to flag her down to order more because her attitude towards us was so bad. I won't be back. But if you do decide to go, they have a Unidays discount. At least that softened the blow of this awful experience.

Itsu is a Japanese and sushi type takeaway fast food establishment. Seems big here in the UK and I really don't get why the US, especially spots like LA don't have more spots like this. It's so easy for on the go work and travel meals without feeling like you have to settle for greasy fast food. Prices were actually pretty reasonable and service was super fast. Ordered on a large screen my meal, paid by card, and it printed out my order number/receipt. Waited near the main desk as a gal was pulling together the orders. They did have sit down seating but post common was people taking the food away. As I waited I was impressed by their little stand that had different options of paper bags, utensils, and sauces. Once my number was caller my food was packaged on the counter, put it in my Togo bag and headed on my way. Ordered salmon sushi (six pieces) and double chicken teriyaki bowl with an easy soft boiled egg with a fancy water, all for $20. I was really impressed because I'm easily spending about $10-$15 on gross greasy fast food in the states so getting sushi and a nice rice bowl for $5 was well worth it! Also the additional sauces and condiments were cheap so worth it too. The sushi slices are really thin but honestly tasted pretty fresh for fast food Togo sushi. Good flavor from the wasabi. The teriyaki chicken rice bowl was super filling and impressed with the perfection of the egg. Loved my lychee peach water, light flavor and refreshing. All in all the taste was about a 3.5 but that's pretty good for Asian takeaway (white wash food), saying this with no offense intended! It's not authentic is what I mean but definitely good and filling. Super happy to have stumbled upon this spot and worth a quick meal on the go while traveling and wanting an easy introverted style meal.

Now, I'm a massive sushi lover... whether it be traditional nigiri or the modern maki, I'm a seasoned fan (especially from growing up in SF, where not liking sushi is a form of blasphemy). Yakitori #1 definitely scratched my sushi-itch. ~ Customer Service: Where it ranks down for me - not with the waiting staff, they were lovely. But my food came way before my partner's. I initially waited for him, but my food started getting cold so he told me to just eat. We ended up sharing my plate of Chicken Katsu Curry because he was starving and I felt really bad. Right before the last bite of my meal was finished, his ramen came. Obviously, that doesn't make for a pleasant dining experience. ~ Food: Absolutely delicious! For starters, we ordered the Soft-Shell Crab which came with a spicy mayonnaise (£8.95) and a Salmon and Avocado maki roll (£9.50) - both really delicious and reminiscent of the excellent sushi of my childhood. If you're planning on going to Yakitori #1, I'm just going to toss my recommendation out there... DEFINITELY get the soft shell crab; it was divine! I had the Chicken Katsu Curry as my main for £10.50 - came with a side of rice, salad, and a tempura-battered sweet potato chunk. Not out of this world, but a tasty and satisfying dish nonetheless - the chicken was cooked perfectly and went very well with the rice. My partner ordered the beef fillet ramen for £14.50. All I can say is... if you're a ramen lover like we were, do not go for the ramen. Tasty noodle dish, but nothing like an actual traditional ramen. To be fair, unless a restaurant specialises in ramen it's a difficult thing to get right. --- The food was delicious, but I do feel as though it wasn't exactly worth it for the price, which is why I'm dragging my review down to 3 stars (the food quality itself is probably 4 stars). I get that seafood and sushi is expensive, but for the cheaper-quality dishes such as the curry or the ramen, the portion sizes was just too small for what you pay. That combined with the awkward wait time in between my chicken and my partner's ramen, I won't exactly be running back. Don't get me wrong, the food is amazing and I wish this business all the success in the world, but my search for the best Japanese restaurant in Cardiff is most definitely still in progress.

I ordered the chirashi and my friend ordered the spider roll and sushi set. The chirashi had some good bites of fish, fresh and tender, but for the most part, the bento was half crab stick and tamago (egg) for filler. For 9 pounds, it was a little light on the fish, which made me sad. The sushi set looked good, with a good amount of tempura to fill you up. The spider roll, however, was very heavy on the rice, packed so tight and not recently, so that the rice was dense and a bit chewy. If my meal were a half priced meal, I'd totally rock the place with a three star review. The portion sizes were good and the quality sufficiently okay to eat there regularly. But to get what we did on a full price night, with no additional perks or service? Sorry. Two stars.

When I got my sushi, I was so happy with it. They really put thought into the presentation of my food, eventhough I only ordered off the half price sushi range, which I really appreciated. Now the taste - fresh, light and clean. Their half price offer was only for a few months, but it seems to always be extended, which works fine for me!
