Japanese sushi restaurant, Obento sits on the commuter run between the centre of town and Temple Meads Station. The interior is eye-catching, brightly coloured if a little tacky, but it's great for families. Whenever I go in here, it's really empty, which does detract from the fun mood. This place does have it's moments. They are also a karaoke bar - you can hire a small room upstairs to hold your karaoke function. If you're not up for eating in, you can also take their delicious sushi away and munch by the river or on the train home.

I've come to Obento to avail of their half price sushi offers! I love my sushi very much and the sushi here is not bad. It is however not brilliant, especially given the price. I would never go here for sushi if it wasn't half price. The bento boxes are not bad and fairly reasonably priced but again they didn't blow me away. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also less traditional Japanese and more wagamama canteen. I wanted to order zaru-soba and tempura but couldn't see it on the menu. I was amazed when they told me they couldn't make it. They have the soba, they already do tempura. Zaru-soba is easy peasy to make, I should know, I'm a dreadful cook and zaru-soba is one of my favourite quick easy dishes to make. I was a little bit gob smacked that they just said 'no, its not on the menu' and that was 'end of discussion'.

When obento fist opened it was a breath of fresh air Well breath of fresh raw fish. But something must of happened a year or two after they opened. It seems that they have lost quite a lot of their food quality. I have not been there for nearly a year now after I was served some not so high quality sushi. They might be better now but I don't think I would go there again.

Some may find it intriguing to have plates served to you through a conveyor belt and I can see why. To satisfy your curiosity, walk in to check it out but save your money and spend it elsewhere. DON'T EAT HERE. After having been seated, we rang the bell multiple times because we needed glasses, saucers for soy sauce, chopsticks, etc. It took a good 15 minutes before someone came by on the other side of the belt with an annoyed look on his face asking what we wanted. Like he's been so troubled by us, he mutters all the stuff we need are at our table. But they weren't that's why we rang. Duh. We finally got to eat when they found time to give us what we needed but unfortunately, every single plate we saw were either blue like the tuna or looked really old and stale. We asked if we could order from the menu so it could be made fresh and again, it took forever for someone to come see us. It also took forever for the food to come and to add insult to injury, they were no different from what was on the belt. Terrible! Late that night, a few of us got diarrhea and so we complained about it days later when we were back in California. They had Shield contact us and said they couldn't do anything more. And what was asked from us? A stool sample. Isn't that wonderful?

Her face lit up as she talked about the conveyer belt of plates that go whirling past the tables, and the array of tiny dishes you have to choose from. As I am also a lover of conveyer belts - how could I resist. A perfectly nice place to go for lunch - very bright and shiny, good if you're looking for a bit of a visual pick-me-up. The sushi, although a bit on the bland side, is made in front of you which if a fun sight. The prices are fair for such freshly made produce, and the service is quick and friendly. For a touch of the orient in Cabots Circus, I'd prefer to go to the equally priced Tampopo. A fun place to go - great for sushi virgins, but lacking an authentic sushi atmosphere.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the bar staff and a waiter took us to our table. The view was really nice as it overlooked the busy street of Bristol. We ordered 2 half pints of Asahi dry beer as they were out of Kirin; the waiter was the only one on the floor and it seemed understaffed but he was very nice and didn't seem too stressed. I ordered the Salmon Bento Box with the chicken Gyoza and tuna Sashimi and my mum ordered the traditional Ramen. The food was quick to come out and it was elegantly placed, the miso soup was part of my Bento Box and was traditional and tasted exceptional. it's important for the rice to be perfect as much as the protein and every element was prepared with care and tasted really good; the salmon hand roll however included the salmon being a bit squished which diminished it's structural integrity but with it being freshly prepared, it was a factor I could overlook. My mum's ramen was spiced well so that it was not overpowering and they even included chilli paste on the side in case she wanted it hotter but there was no need. Ultimately, this place was a lovely surprise and I would definitely return!

Imagine my shock upon finding a sushi place that does amazing crazy American-style rolls in Cardiff! A firm recommend from me. *NOTE: You MUST book in advance. The restaurant is tiny and extremely popular. We booked in advance for my birthday meal and it was filled to the brim. We witness the host needing to turn away quite a few people who showed up without a reservation. If you don't have a reservation, you might end up disappointed. --- ~ Atmosphere: It's a tiny little restaurant with cramped seating. It's nice and clean, but I wouldn't recommend it for large groups at all. ~ Customer Service: The only downside. Don't get me wrong, everyone was very nice but I think it was understaffed when we showed up. There was only one waitress and she acted as a host/server/waitress for an entire filled-to-the-brim restaurant. She was always busy with something that it would take quite a while to flag her down. It took quite a while before our orders were finally taken but from that point the food didn't take too long to arrive. ~ Food: Fantastic. We ordered a selection of different Maki Rolls which came on cute bridges used as platters. My recommendation would definitely be Yellow Dragon, which is a roll of salmon, avocado and cucumber topped with melted cheese. For £7.80 it was well worth it. The prices were fair so it was fun to order a bunch of rolls to see which are the favourites. I left full and without a massive hole in my wallet. Will definitely be making a return trip! TIP: Don't skip the mochi for dessert!

Itsu is a Japanese and sushi type takeaway fast food establishment. Seems big here in the UK and I really don't get why the US, especially spots like LA don't have more spots like this. It's so easy for on the go work and travel meals without feeling like you have to settle for greasy fast food. Prices were actually pretty reasonable and service was super fast. Ordered on a large screen my meal, paid by card, and it printed out my order number/receipt. Waited near the main desk as a gal was pulling together the orders. They did have sit down seating but post common was people taking the food away. As I waited I was impressed by their little stand that had different options of paper bags, utensils, and sauces. Once my number was caller my food was packaged on the counter, put it in my Togo bag and headed on my way. Ordered salmon sushi (six pieces) and double chicken teriyaki bowl with an easy soft boiled egg with a fancy water, all for $20. I was really impressed because I'm easily spending about $10-$15 on gross greasy fast food in the states so getting sushi and a nice rice bowl for $5 was well worth it! Also the additional sauces and condiments were cheap so worth it too. The sushi slices are really thin but honestly tasted pretty fresh for fast food Togo sushi. Good flavor from the wasabi. The teriyaki chicken rice bowl was super filling and impressed with the perfection of the egg. Loved my lychee peach water, light flavor and refreshing. All in all the taste was about a 3.5 but that's pretty good for Asian takeaway (white wash food), saying this with no offense intended! It's not authentic is what I mean but definitely good and filling. Super happy to have stumbled upon this spot and worth a quick meal on the go while traveling and wanting an easy introverted style meal.
