I don't typically write reviews, but after the experience I just had I felt I had to. I was contemplating getting my toes done for graduation and saw the sign outside of Kim Nails advertising "Spa Pedicure" for $28. I get there pick out a color (Fiji by Essie) and sit in the pedicure chair. When the guy comes over I tell him I want a pink French pedicure and show him pictures of what exactly I want so he knows what I'm talking about. There might be a language barrier but I figured the picture would communicate what I wanted. He looks at it for a few minutes and then says okay, hands me back my phone and gets started.(Picture is inserted). He gets started and midway I start talking to the lady next to me about different things and about how I'm graduating next week and wanted to splurge on myself. Very nice lady. I'm not paying attention to the guy working on feet. Then he asks me what I think and I look at my feet and see this (Picture attached). My big toe is filed so short (and now hurts because of how short it is) the nail is round, the line is thick and not even straight or an even thickness, and there is no pink. I was just confused and stunned and I hate confrontation so I was debating saying anything. He sits me at a chair where my feet are supposed to be drying and forgets about me. The lady who was sitting next to me finished her toes and got her nails dipped and I'm still there waiting for this guy to come back to me. The lady sees me and goes "Damn your still here?" And I said yep. I check my nails myself to see if they are dry, turn off the fan and go to put my shoes on. Looking at my feet I saw that my one toenail still had green polish on the side of the nail from what was on my nail previously. Put my shoes on go to register and go to pay. He finally comes over to me and charges my card $33. It's sad because I've gone there before for my nails and this was my first pedicure and it left such a bad taste in my mouth. I showed him the picture of what I wanted and I'm confused at how I got what I got. My big toe nails are so short and painful and are probably not going to look any better for my graduation. I'm so disappointed and frustrated, if he doesn't know how to do a French pedicure than he should have switched with someone else or vocalized that and I would have just gotten a plain color. Also he should have asked how short I wanted it before filing away my nails. And to forget about me for around 20 minutes is not good customer service. There is nothing I can do to fix my toes now as the nail is so short that if I tried squaring off my toe I might as well just remove the whole nail. read more

I went to this salon because my regular place did not have any openings and some ladies i work with suggested it. I called them to ask if they did Gellish Polygel Manicures. They told me yes. I was ELATED. I was a walk in, the gentleman that would be doing my nails asked what was one them I told him gellish polygel, he told me that it didn't exist and that's not what was on my nails. He filed all my polish away as I was standing there checking in, and said "no. we don't do this. this is bad." he talked me into getting Dip Powder. I'm new to nails so I agreed. My nails looked great, they felt super strong and he went all the way to the edges with polish (a lot of nail techs don't do this for WHATEVER reason). When I returned for a second time, I felt like I was an inconvenience to the staff as a walk in. They took me right away, the girl that did my nails mentioned to another customer that they had 2 people missing and were short staffed. She was doing 2 womens pedicures, another womans nails, and removing tips all WHILE she was doing mine. She filed too deep and caused a big divet in my nail and cut my cuticles all very short, one bled. Props to her for being able to do 100 things at once but it really made me uncomfortable, I felt like I wasn't important at all and that she didn't really care about whether or not my nails looked good or were healthy. When I told her I wanted an almond shape she made them very oval, I told her I wanted it pointier like almonds (almonds have round bottom and pointy top) she rolled her eyes, grabbed my hand and filed my nails to a VERY sharp point. Then before she finished my manicure she asked for me to pay. That's fine, I didn't mind much but I just felt like I was being rushed out of the door. I ended up breaking a nail pretty badly in NYC and I waited for it to grow out. I will be returning to my regular salon, I don't think dip powder and this style of nail place is what I'm looking for. They do a pretty decent job, though I'd like more nail color options. read more

Disappointed they didn't do a nail soak and cuticle care/trim or even hand lotion with the manicures my friend and I got. They also messed hers up by forgetting a certain coat and then tried to blame her before realizing their own mistake. I rarely write reviews but I had to leave one for Lena and my dip manicure. It might be the best dip manicure I have ever had (and I've had a lot, trust me, all over the country). It still looks good 2 weeks later (I don't mind the look of grow out when my manicure still looks so amazing!!!). I had to wait a little bit but Lena was apologetic and gave me updates. She was so kind and so great!!!! Lena is definitely the best manicurist in Pittsburgh! Would not go back. Had gel done by a male there - was not even to my cuticles, peeled in three days, and he gave me a terrible attitude about nail shape. Recently went to have my acrylics filled - left with air bubbles, ridged acrylic and wrinkles in the paint. Wanted a refund she said she wouldn't give money back but would redo them. She had a terrible attitude the entire time and blamed it on my nails as she filed the acrylic paper thin and applied thick gooey paint. The male also yelled at me for asking her to redo them. I now have two nails that are a completely different color. I will never return. She also overcharged me for the fill even though the sign outside clearly states a lower price. I have been getting my nails done for over a year now at Kim Nails and it's about time I write a well-deserving review. The services I have received include pedicures, gel and dip manicures. I have received these services by nearly every employee and only have high praises for their attentiveness, cleanliness and desire to please. Jimmy and Nikki, co-owners and husband and wife, take great pride in their salon. Once Nikki shared with me the advantages of getting a dip manicure, I have been hooked and in the salon every 3 weeks for this fantastic mani and regularly receive excellent pedis as well. First, the vibe there wasn't welcoming. Second, my appointment was at 11 and before the guy that does acrylic serviced my hands he smoked a cigarette.... so I wasn't started until 11:15. The quality is mediocre. And for $30.00, I expected more. He rushed the work and instead of letting my nails dry between coats, it was slapped on. Then when I sat under the dryer, my polish started to wrinkle. Oh, and he never even used cuticle oil which is essential. So another woman took the polish off and redid them. Never going back again, got my nails done yesterday they look almost a week old. I wasn't pressed by the wait which is Normal for any nail spot but the person who did my nails rushed to do mine and my friends.. I supplied her with a reference of my nails which in the photograph they are long she automatically assumed I wanted them short.... I wasn't bothered by the length as they grow out after fills...what i did have a problem with was the nail themselves.. the paint is sloppy and she rushed to get to the non black customers who were waiting after me.. This is a neighborhood nail salon for us. We have tried it several times. The tech you get dictates your level of happiness. Don't walk in, especially on a Friday. They will rush and you will walk out with less than acceptable nails. My first two visits were wonderful, my third OK and now the fourth a complete disaster including damage to nails and nail beds and a manicure that looks like a child did it. Literally I left the salon and saw a friend and she said, "you need your nails done!" They were just done...this is how awful they look. PRO: They have a ton...a TON...of colors for all types on manicures. The prices are reasonable. The equipment and establishment seems clean. Some staff are wonderful at their jobs...meticulous, nice, proficient. My first two visits were a great experience. Expertly done nails. CONS: Having experienced 4 different people at the salon now, I can tell you who you get makes all the difference. About 50% of the staff are not qualified to do nails. That is a big chance walking in...50% chance you will get someone who can do the job well. When it is not done well, like this time, you have bleeding cuticles, sloppy polish, dip onto your skin and cuticles, very rough areas where she was did not smooth out the dip (areas that catch cloth rough), completely uneven filing and random nail cutting that will make my toes nails prone to in-grow (they hurt in some places today). The bigger concern is I don't think they care. I get the impression it is your tough luck...which is sad. They are in a prime spot and have a lot of walking traffic. I will shop around now if I can't get an appointment with my first two girls. If you don't have a good tech, this place is not worth the trip. read more

Friendly in a bright, yet relaxing space. The pedicure chairs are new and so nice. Especially with the massage features! I enjoyed my visit today. I was able to be seen as soon as I entered. It probably helped that I went during a weekday around 10:30am when most are probably at work. Main reason for going was a pedicure. The water in the basin was very cool (hence the four stars); I was asked if it was alright but I figured everything was already set up so I'd just go with it. I had a very bad experience here last week. As soon as the shop became busy, they started cutting corners and did a sloppy job with no attention to detail. For the dip manicure, they applied the dip only with minimal filing- that was it. The pedicure was the poorest polish application, and well, it looks like I did it myself. Went to this place in May and treated my friend and myself for her birthday. I was immediately happy with the fact that we could get in immediately, no appointment needed. The women who did our toenails were nice and attentive for the most part. I picked out a reddish orange gel color that I liked and thought would look good. When she started actually painting my toe nails I realized that the color she was painting my nails was not the actual color I had picked out but chalked it up to me not looking at it clearly. A couple minutes later she got up and grabbed the original color I wanted so apparently I was right in my observation. She didn't start over or say anything, she just tried to paint over it. Now, I was willing to let that go but the finished product on my toe nails was kind of uneven and peeled a bit plus there was an obvious spot on my big toe where she didn't apply enough polish. The store being so close makes me feel like I may go back at some point but I will definitely be looking for another alternative before doing so. read more

Got a gel pedicure and not even a full 24hrs went by and the polish peeled off of two toes. Went back the next day to get it fixed and they told me to come back after 4pm so it can die down. I drove all the way back home to come back for them to try to brush me off and tell me they will fix it tomorrow which is a Monday. I work a full time job and have class after work wouldn't have any time to come during the week until the following weekend. They weren't willing to try to accommodate me or work with me to just fix two freaking toes. Paid $45 to walk around with 8 toes polished smh won't spend a dime there never again. read more

Went to get my nails done. Tried the new "nexgen" dipping method. Don't get me wrong, the nail polish was great. However, I requested to get coffin nails on. I'm not sure if the girl that was doing my nails has a bit of a lopsided situation but these nails are the worst nails I have ever seen. I paid $55 for this and I am so disappointed. My words will not do it justice. Please look at the images so that you are able to understand and see that this not worth $55. They're not even worth a fraction of that. I couldn't even get the chance to complain to this girl because of her incessant push out the door to get the next girl in. But keep in mind, the place was empty. Most unusual, at times I haven't had an appointment , they let you know as honestly as they can how soon you'll be taken. Technician applied my acrylics at an angle pointing up. They looked terrible but I didn't have time to have them fixed right then and left for vacation the next day. I took photos of the nails and showed them when I returned from vacation. They initially agreed that it was a poor job and said they would do my next set for free.
