Been to the Kilwins in Williamsburg before. On a off and on rainy Saturday evening we walk by the Kilwins in Willmington after dining on the River. Kilwins is half a block from the River. It's ambiance is that of a 1920's/30's candy store with ice cream and fudge counters. They have a range of ice cream and fudge flavors. I needed some gifts from my trip and chocolate seemed like that would please the folks I was buying for. So I stopped into Kilwins in Downtown Wilmington. The store is larger than most Kilwins so that means more variety in everything from caramel apples to chocolates to fudge to ice cream. I think there must have been 18 flavors of fudge. The other Kilwins I've been had 5 to 6 selections. The pre-packaged chocolates worked for my gift needs and the fudge and shaved drinking chocolate was for me. I am sure the hot chocolate will be amazing. I had never seen the shaved drinking chocolate before. I got German chocolate; maple walnut and chocolate peanut butter fudge. They gave me some samples too and one piece was free of the three :-) The store was busy with most opting for ice cream or waters. Service was friendly to everyone whether you were spending a little or a lot. I was happy I was given a sturdy enough bag too, little things make my day. read more

I went there yesterday because I had to have one of their delicious caramel apples and I like how they will cut them. First time I tried the chocolate dipped marshmallow, it was delicious. I also brought peanut brittle; I have not opened that yet. The reason I am giving only three stars instead of the 4 or five deserved is because I also paid for chocolate fudge, I could not wait until I got home. Mouthwatering for the sweet delight. My heart sunk when I was not able to cut it with a steak knife, it was harder than a cement brick. I am going to call the store when they open to see if they can give me some advice on how to soften it up. I was so excited to show my husband and 9 year old son the store as I had tried it almost 10 years ago on a military wife retreat. When we got up the counter, we picked out our chocolates and then we moved down and around someone who was being served ice cream to make room for more people, and one of the male servers (had a hat on with lighter hair). I think either thought we took cuts or was with the group we went around, so I just said excuse me, we were next. And he got VERY LOUD And said mam you are being/ will be helped. The entire store heard him. I was so completely embarrassed and mortified. I didn't know what to do. I wasn't going to reply with anything as I didn't want to make a scene. I was only trying to help make room and let him know we hadn't been served. I wasn't yelling or rude. It was completely unnecessary and rude. A young lady stepped up and tried to make an excuse as being busy but he should have apologized. We did end up spending about $50 that night on ice cream and chocolates. However, My husband was so upset he didn't even get an ice cream (which is his favorite). My son was asking what happened and why was he yelling and I said, he must have had a bad day but I own a business and would want to know if one of my employees treated someone like that. read more

I absolutely loved it. My wife got Chocolate Toasted Coconut which has Creamy coconut-flavored ice cream with chocolate-covered toasted coconut. (The ice cream ingredients are Kilwin's description). While we were in Wilmington and visiting historical downtown, we stopped here for some ice cream. I had a single strawberry waffle cone and my friend had a pistachio single waffle cone. The ice cream was good but nothing extraordinary. I enjoyed it but felt it was very over priced. The chocolate candy available can cost as much as $40 per pound. So we were a little embarrassed to walk in and then our empty handed so we got an ice cream cone instead of chocolate like I hoped for. I knocked off a star cause I think the pricing is outrageous and didn't find anything about their product to be extraordinary for a reason to spend so much. Our $15 and change checkout for our ice cream was enough and the experience was ok. The place is nice on a great historical street/area but IMO, too expensive. They Definitely could've put a tad bit more of ice-cream on the cones, but overall the cones were good. The initial guy that started taking our orders, was about two orders in (it was about 8 of us getting ice-cream), when he asked his co-worker could she finish taking our orders because he wanted to go to break, of which she did but her attitude and demeanor showed that she wasn't happy to take over for him.
