The Celtic Creamery provides reasonably priced ice cream that tastes absolutely phenomenal!

This review involves both Celtic Creamery and DoorDash. If you order from Celtic Creamery through DoorDash, be aware. My last two orders had major issues. On 6/4, my order arrived completely melted because the ice cream had leaked through a paper lunch bag after the containers weren't properly closed. I figured "mistakes happen" and let it go. However, my most recent order (6/23) arrived with only one of the three items I paid for ( on a $45+ order). I remember not too long ago when businesses took more ownership of problems like this. I know DoorDash can issue a partial refund, but that isn't really the point. I paid for a service and tonight when something went wrong, everyone just pointed somewhere else. The part I can't get past is that LITERALLY no one could tell me where the rest of my order went. Like, hello?! The driver said there were no additional bags. So I called Celtic Creamery and the guy on the phone said they had tried to tell him there were multiple bags as the dasher left (which I have a hard time believing when the dasher was a 5 star dasher with over 1k ratings.) But if that's true...then where did the other $27 of my order go? What surprised me even more was that NO ONE offered a practical solution. If the missing items were still at the shop, I would have gladly driven over to pick them up. Even something as simple as, "We're sorry. Come pick up the rest of your order, and here's a free scoop or a small gift card for the inconvenience," would have gone a long way toward keeping me as a customer. Instead, the conversation ended with little more than an apology and no real attempt to resolve what happened. A lack of ownership is what lost my business. While DoorDash shares *some* responsibility, these issues have happened with different drivers on multiple orders from Celtic Creamery, which makes me question the store's packaging and order verification process. If a business chooses to offer delivery, orders should be packaged securely and verified before they leave the store--especially when signature desserts cost $12 or more a piece. The ice cream itself is good. Our first order was excellent, which makes these last two experiences even more disappointing. Unfortunately, repeated problems with missing items, melted deliveries, and a lack of accountability mean I won't be ordering from Celtic Creamery again. read more

This ice creamery was recommended to us by our Airbnb owner and it did not disappoint. It's tucked in the back of a gift shop, so we hesitated a bit at the door, but found our way. My friends and I had the cookie dough, coffee and blackberry cheesecake ice creams in cake cones and absolutely loved all 3. They also have a cart that passes up and down the beach with select flavors to order from during the day time. The place was cute and family owned. We will be back! read more

We visited today and the gentleman who helped us was a very polite young man with a mullet and a ball cap. He was extremely friendly and offered suggestions and was willing to help. We left him a large tip simply because he was so pleasant and was very generous offering us lots of samples. My wife had regular vanilla with wet nuts sundae and she was in love. There's a lot going on at Celtic Creamery, and all of it is either delicious or interesting. They've got ice cream, and made-to-order mini donuts, and fudge, and hot nuts (that's what she said), and slushies, and milkshakes, and handbags, and t-shirts, and toys for children and dogs. You will walk out of this place satisfied in some way. We visited for ice cream. Typically, I've found that places with the word "creamery" in the name give great ice cream. And in this case, my hunch was proven true. They have some great ice cream at Celtic! One of my kids got a cup of cookies and cream, and the other kid got a cookie dough milkshake. They both loved their treats. Ice cream is not really my thing, but I saw that Celtic Creamery made and sold mini donuts, which are definitely my thing. They make the donuts right after you order them, so they're hot and fresh. They're served with either cinnamon or powdered sugar. I got the only correct choice. (Cinnamon, just FYI.) They were are great as you might think fresh cinnamon donuts might taste! The people who work at Celtic Creamery are super friendly and exceedingly patient. They didn't blink an eye when it took us (meaning, my children) a while to decide which ice cream flavor to choose. I was looking for a dessert after the train wreck dinner my wife and I just had, and I was happy to try Celtic Creamery based on all of the fantastic reviews. It did not disappoint. My wife got a scoop of the Irish Creme, and I got that, too, along with a scoop of the cookies and creme and a scoop of cookie dough. We found Celtic Creamery here, on Yelp, and stopped in last night while on an after dinner stroll around the pier. The ice cream shop is in the back of a fun little gift shop. I got the blackberry cheesecake which was very berry with chunks of cheesecake. Hubs got the coffee chip. Very coffee with big chocolate chips. The ice cream was so creamy and rich and Premium. Parking is tight but doable. Once you get inside, you'll come into a souvenir shop and an ice cream parlor. The flavors are fun. I had Irish Cream. There are the normal favs too - like cookies and cream that the rest of my family picked. It is made with Irish butter and cream making it the creamy place for your ice cream. I love homemade ice cream and Celtic creamery did not disappoint. They offer several varieties of homemade ice cream as well as baked goods and fresh donuts. I ordered the banana split and my son got a brownie. The banana split was really good. I liked how you could customize it. I got mine with coconut and chocolate ice cream with hot fudge. They also top it with shaved chocolate for some texture. You could tell the ice cream was fresh and I enjoyed both flavors a lot. My son loved his brownie. There's also a cute gift shop so he enjoyed looking around well we were eating our treats. I highly recommend checking out the mural on the side of their building. read more

This is still some of the best ice cream we've ever tried. It's truly homemade and absolutely delicious. This time I tried some of their rotating/special flavors - coconut and blackberry cheesecake. Both were outstanding. I got two pints of the blackberry cheesecake to take home, along with some vanilla for eating with pie/cake. My husband had the brownie sundae with butter pecan ice cream. For a lot of the sundaes you can choose your ice cream flavor(s). I am a purist and just enjoy digging into a big bowl of ice cream without any additions. I appreciate that they offer so many options from a single scoop cake cone up to the larger sundaes to share as a family/group. The servers were super friendly both times we went here. My family visits Carolina Beach a lot but had never tried Celtic Creamery. We assumed it was just a gift shop that served Hershey's or another mass ice cream chain - we were very wrong! Celtic had a variety of awesome homemade flavors. It was hard to choose and we ended up visiting twice during our stay! I had a waffle cone with birthday cake and Heath ice cream. Scoop sizes were very generous and the ice cream is not lacking in toppings or flavor. Delicious! The birthday cake flavor had all sorts of stuff in it - I especially loved the marshmallows. On our second visit we split the sundae of the week, which was toffee crunch. We subbed out chocolate ice cream for cookie dough and enjoyed every bite. Such a wide variety of flavors was really nice. Staff served incredibly quickly. Price is affordable. It makes sense to get two scoops instead of just one. So this place was packed so we went there for that and it had good reviews. The flavors seem fresh and season inspired and they had some really creative sundaes on the menu. I decided to get a waffle cone with two scoops and I was really happy with my ice cream texturally and flavor-wise. The waffle cone was really thin though, and it got soggy way too quickly. They didn't really have a good place to sit as the tables were all dirty and sticky so we walked with it to the board walk while we ate which was cool. [Coronavirus review] This place has got to be one of the least locked-down places I've visited since the pandemic took over. There were a bunch of other people and I was the only one masked. Admittedly, the wisdom of these things is an open question and not something I want to take a position on in a Yelp review. What I will say is I chose to explore the area on a terrible weather day with driving rain that made the roads difficult to navigate, and this place had a few parking spaces next to the door, and while I sat in my car more people were constantly flowing into them. It was a popular shop. The store is not just an ice cream store but has some general beachy merchandise. I ordered a peach flavor and their version of mint chip. The peach packed a flavor punch, while the mint was more subtle, but the sweetness of the mint grew on me and it was a different take on the flavor than anything I can recall having. The place had only a dozen flavors or so with some indulgent sundae items; nothing in the dairy free realm and not a world of choice. But this was distinctive ice cream and the place was definitely better than some generic big brand on flavor. read more
