We discovered Kilwins when we visited northern Michigan years ago. We were delighted to find one in Gatlinburg. Walking up we could smell the fresh waffle cones they were making. Our group tried several ice cream flavors--mine was Georgia Peach, in one of the fresh waffle cones (still warm)...for me it was nostalgia and deliciousness. I got a "small" which was a very generous portion, much more than you get at say, Baskin Robbin's. They are a bit pricey, but their treats are great quality and a tasty experience. This is the second chocolate shop I stopped at in Gatlinberg. I like that it was brightly lit and there was a little more order. I found an area to kind of queue up to purchase some fudge because they had quite the selection of different flavors. There were probably 10 in all. The person helping me kind of explained how I could make a sampler box and I think she mentioned that if I bought 3 pounds, I would get one free. I don't think I got a free pound, but oh well. It's partially my fault for not clarifying/asking at the end. I bought quite a few other things: salted caramel and caramel apple, etc. They also have ice cream in the back which a lot of kids were excited about. This was just as popular as the other chocolate shop I visited. It felt like more of a business and less family owned, but that's ok with me. Nice clean candy/chocolate/ice cream shop. Service was so AMAZING I would have tipped, but it wasn't an option. We went two days in a row both times the servers for ice cream were so helpful and kind! If you like coconut or almond joys their coconut ice cream is AMAZING. I also got the turtle cheesecake it was super yummy but a whole scoop was hard to stomach. The New Orleans pralines was super yummy as well but a little too rich for my taste buds for a whole scoop too :( read more

While recently in Gatlinburg again, we stopped in here to sample the fudges. I love fudge and will never turn down a sample. I dont know why but I dont remember this place and as with most places they had my favorite flavor, Maple Walnut, but wait...what is this I see? They have a BUTTER PECAN fudge!!!!! Oh my stars and garters! Oh no they didn't! But, ohhhh yes, they did!!! When I stopped here I had already been to the usual places around town and had not seen a butter pecan fudge anywhere! I was excited to try a sample and it was sooooo yummy! We were going to get some but the guy working, well lets just say he is not going to be winning employee of the month any time soon so we left. Next day we all stopped by again and a different guy was working and he was more than happy to help us. He answered all our questions, gave us more samples, told us about all the specials, the company, the fudges, etc. He is how an employee should be and he is who you want behind the counter! I am so sorry I didnt write his name down but he had dark hair and glasses....I THINK! I could definitely pick him out of a fudge line up! Okay, pretty sure. Also, I walk by my own husband sometimes cause I just don't pay attention so there's that. Lol We ended up getting 6 pieces of fudge and ice cream which we would have gotten the day before had customer service been better. I didnt realize til we opened the box a couple days later it had the cutest little wooden fudge knives in there. We will definitely be back. This place has some amazing ice cream! Came here twice on our Gatlinburg trip, and got the turtle , blue moon , and cookie dough ice cream. All the flavors were really good, but I definitely like the cookie dough more. Very fresh and rich tasting. The turtle mainly tasted like Carmel, wasn't much chocolate in it, but it did have nice candied pecans. The blue moon was good too, very unique profile. The waffle cones were also fresh and homemade tasting. The definitely know they are in the best place for an ice cream shop though, pretty high prices for what it is. Kilwins is a mom and pop confectionary shop that was founded in 1947 in Petoskey Michigan. Now the company operates 123 stores in 22 states. We have a bunch of them in South Florida where I live and I visit them for ice cream. They also sell fudge and other confections. Due to Covid you can't walk in this store like you normally would and inhale their sweet scent. Instead you order at a counter that has been created and the cashier is protected behind plexiglass. While walking around downtown Gatlinburg we were enticed by the candy apples in the window. They are actually one of my favorite things to get from Kilwin's. According to their website ""The Perfect" Caramel Apple starts with a fresh & crisp Granny Smith apple, finished with our made-in-store Caramel. Our "Original Recipe" Caramel is still cooked in a traditional copper kettle, a three-hour process that results in a smooth & creamy Caramel, for that "Perfect" Caramel Apple, a customer favorite for 70 years!" They are not cheap, $8 for the pecan caramel apple we picked and worth every penny. They cut it up for you so you can just pull the pieces off the core. One apple was more than enough for two people. I like to think they are a semi healthy treat because of the apple, LOL. When you want to splurge you can't go wrong with a caramel apple from Kilwin's. A trip here can make a sweet memory of Gatlinburg even sweeter. read more

Excellent place for a treat! We have one back home, but have never tried it. The apples peaked our interest, although we didn't get one. The employees were quick to offer my 2 year old son a sample of their Superman ice cream. He was so happy! Very very nice people. My husband went with a scoop of the marsh-mallow s'more in a fresh, still warm, waffle cone. The ice cream was great, but the cone put it over the top. We used to live in MI with a Kilwin's in town and it is one of the places that we miss. My daughter grew up eating Superman ice cream and is disappointed to find that outside of MI it is just vanilla ice cream with coloring. She tries to convince her friends that REAL Superman has a fruit flavor to it. So when we were in Gatlinburg, Kilwin's was #1 on her list of places to go. The Superman didn't disappoint! Another thing Kilwin's does right is fudge, which is no surprise since the UP of MI is known for great fudge. I got half a slice of maple walnut and it was the best! The first time I've had Kilwin's was when I was in Miami. Since then, I have been thinking about it haha. There is a Kilwin's at Atlantic Station but I don't go to that part of Atlanta often.
