Following his examination, he performed a biopsy which revealed it was basal cell carcinoma and thankfully not the more deadly melanoma. Surgery was scheduled for July 23rd, outpatient with general anesthesia. Skin in the scalp is very tight and it is a marvel to me how Dr Byrne was able to close a quarter- sized excision of skin (to get clear margins) with a very tidy 2" seam held together by 8 staples.
