By recommendation of many I drove over to Garland from Rockwall and saw Dr. Kevin Kia for my annual skin check. Dr. Kia was kind and thorough. The office staff were friendly and my appointment was on time. I had two skin scrape biopsies and the process was quick and, other than the numbing shots before, painless. read more

Dr. Kia is quick with patient interactions and prescriptions, moving from patient to patient. This is probably how a rapid dermatologist works, however the support staff doesn't have the patient care aspect to support the physician. Phone calls are not returned in a timely manner even when requested for work time frames. Voicemail is used frequently even when staff is present in the office. Clearly the office is understaffed or unable to handle the volume of patients. The practice manager should be aware that customer service in all aspects of the practice is what brings referrals. Procedure explanations and diagnosis sheets are needed for elderly patients. read more

This office will require you to book an appointment every time you want a refill so that Dr. Kia can line his pockets with cash. He has no regard for customer service or true patient care. The staff is rude, too. Take your business to a more deserving office. read more

Do not waste your time and money on this place. I never do reviews but the service I got here was completely awful. From office staff to the doctor , just terrible. I had to pay near $200 for a office visit that did not even last 10 minutes AND was misdiagnosed. Dr Kia was very dismissive and would not let me explain myself. He just continued to talk over me and tell me that nothing was wrong. That the massive bump on my head that was causing me so much pain was "just a bone". After getting a second opinion sure enough it was a growth that I had to have surgery to remove and have it biopsied. Do better. read more

I've only came here twice to fix a problem I was having with my skin. Dr. Patel was extremely nice and informative to me so no worries about that. But I had to give this business a one star. I'm sorry but if you're running a business make sure your secretary isn't rude. Why should I give my money to you when I can't even make a simple phone call without receiving attitude. I much rather have problems with my acne than come back here and be spoken to poorly over the phone. Disgusting. It was my first visit to this dermatology clinic, the reason I went there because I needed to see the dr ASAP, so I called some places around and surprisingly they were able to see me the same day, other places were available at least 1 or 2 weeks of wait. I was a new patient, so I asked over the phone how much it would cost, they told me one price, and when I was there they charged me a different price. (Not Cool) Doctor's visit was really quick, Dr. Kia looked on my skin condition for a second or two, prescribed me a cream and left, I felt like he was in a rush. When he left I still had so many questions to ask, so I had to keep asking a administration person all my questions and she had to go back and forth to ask a doctor. I felt like it wasn't nice to make a patient feel like they just wanted to get done with you as fast as they could. So that's why minus 1 Star for a false charge amount, different from what was told before. Minus another Star, for not taking care of your patient as a doctor's visit should be. read more

Really enjoyed my experience with Dr. Patel. Took a while to get an appt., but once I arrived as a new patient, I has quickly in a room. Dr. Patel listened thoroughly and advised of what would be needed to assist. Really enjoyed his demeanor and his down to earth approach. I have been going to Dr Patel for over 3 years and highly recommend him. He starts with the least invasive procedure and only goes to biopsy if needed. He also removed a large spot on my mother's forehead and recommended an excellent doctor for MOH's procedure. His quick action probably saved her life. Dr. Patel is an amazing thorough doctor. I love that i can get a 7:30 am visit. He's efficient, kind and very thorough yet fast. Please know that i have only minor skin issues and now only go once a year for a check up. During my initial visits a few years ago, Mr. Patel was great about explain all of the details and took his time. I never have to wait long to see the doctor. I trust him to take care of me. I've now been to this office a total of three times. I've been to two other dermatologists in my life, and this office is my favorite. I see Dr. Patel and he is extremely nice and has excellent communication skills. He explains things very well without talking down to me but at the same time not getting too technical. He really seems to know what he's doing. I waited over 30 minutes for my first visit, and about 25 minutes for my second visit. My last visit was a shocker - I did not wait at all. I walked straight from the lobby to the exam room and Dr. Patel came in. The nurse told me that they try their best to run on time, but they do run late if there are complicated patients in front of me. In regards to prescriptions, Dr. Patel really pays attention to cost. He wrote me for generic medicines, but one of them was very expensive even though it was generic. When I called back to speak with the nurse, she walked me through GoodRx and I was able to get the medicine for $35 when my insurance wanted to charge me $100 for the same thing! I saw the prior review by Sue T. about the paperwork for this office. I downloaded all the paperwork on from their website and it made it a lot easier when I showed up for my first visit. I have a high deductible, and amazingly they did not collect everything at the first visit. The other doctors I visit collect the balance in full, but they only took $50 and billed me the rest later. The office is old and is in an older part of town. The building is old as well, but it is fairly well-maintained. This office does no cosmetic and it shows. I have no interest in fancy artwork or fancy electronic toys, so I was very comfortable. It's a very simple office, but very nice and homely. The staff is very nice and seems to enjoy working there. I see the same faces every time, so I do not think they have a lot of turnover like some other medical offices. I've been pleased with all my three visits and definitely give Dr. Patel and his staff 5 stars. read more

I had a new patient appointment with Dr. Patel. He car in and was nice. But I felt like his intro and everything was scripted. Not very personable, very scripted. He did address my questions although very quickly. I'm not even sure he knew I was a new patient, he came in and told me and my husband "nice to see you". While we were waiting on a quote for a procedure my husband asked it could be done the same day. The nurse, said she was his surgical nurse, quickly said "no, I've been here since 7am". Well, that wasn't the question and I don't care how long she's been there. You are providing a service, she could've and should have answered that differently. OFFICE REVIEW ONLY My husband went in this morning for his first appointment and got the paperwork packet for new patients. They do not call to check with your insurance company, but have you sign a paper that you are responsible for finding out before your appointment if their lab and procedures are covered. We had looked up that the provider was in-network, but did not ask what lab they use before our appointment, or what procedure codes they might be utilizing for a skin cancer screening. Below is the actual list they gave this morning, with a final sentence stating that you might want to find out your insurance coverage before your appointment. But they tell you while you are there for your appointment. We are in our 50s and have never been to a medical provider that did not check for us. Also, if we do call and check that these codes are covered, they could always say later that we misunderstood so it is meaningless. "precancerous lesion destructions 17000, 17003 benign lesion destructions 17110, 17111 incision & drainage, (simple) 10060 or (complicated) 10061 excision/closure of skin cancers or cysts 11401 - 11606, 12031 - 13132 biopsies 11100, 11101 pathology 88305 skin tags 11200, 11201 You may wish to review these procedures with your insurance company before your visit." read more

Stay away from Dr Patel!! He is fake friendly, but SO arrogant! I thought he cared, though he always seemed rushed. He tried to make super quick small-talk but then super quickly checked me smiled and rushed out. I had a basal cell carcinoma on my scalp and he referred me to a mohs surgeon for treatment. When I called there was a long wait to get in but his associate who was a dermatologist mohs surgeon and a plastic surgeon had an earlier opening, so i scheduled with him. I felt more comfortable with that dr anyway since it was on my scalp. When the nurse called from Dr Patel to see if I had scheduled with the referred Dr, I explained the wait, and told her i scheduled with the associate. She proceeds to REPRIMAND me like l was a child and say that Dr Patel would not like that. They don't seem to understand, while I appreciate the referral, I AM the patient, and it is ultimately MY CHOICE!!! So after he gets upset AT me, I changed my appt and made it with his referral. Then an even WORSE incident happened, when he found a spot on my face, I chose to have a doctor who was a family friend and plastic surgeon who has MAJOR skin cancer reconstruction experience do the removal. I had the complete records transferred to him. When I went back to Dr. Patel for my next screening, he proceeded to tell me (while smiling his fake smile) that he had PLENTY of patients so he did NOT need me as a patient, and while he received the records, he did not care, that I should just leave and see someone else. I have tried to please him like the child i was treated as, and have been in health care (dentistry) for 36 years and we always respect the patients decisions... and encourage them to make their own choices , while we treat them in a caring way and give our OPINION, we realize it is their health and final choice, fir example if we refer them to a specific orthodontist, and they go to a different one, we would NEVER kick them out of our practice!! But he has PLENTY of patients so really YOU are not needed either!!!!!! Most arrogant doctor EVER!!! read more

Dr. Kia was really impressive in his diagnosis and treatment of my condition and his bedside manners were off the charts! Very, very friendly and kind. He teaches at UT Southwestern Medical Center also. I would definitely recommend him to my friends and family! I also asked him about some old scars that I wanted to be less noticeable and rather than trying to fatten his wallet and try treatments he felt would not be sufficient enough, he recommended I go straight to a cosmetic dermatologist for more advanced options than what his office offered. I was also REALLY impressed by the fact that he called me himself (while most drs have their nurses relay msgs instead of talking to them, themselves) to discuss my options and give me the referral (since I forgot to ask him during my visit). My first office visit went ok. Dr Kia seemed knowledgable and was very down to earth. He came in the room and within 5 minutes diagnosed me and sent me on my way with 3 prescriptions and a list of daily skin care, one of which had a $150 co-pay! I picked up the others and started my treatment. Within two days of treatment my face was the worse it had ever been and more sensitive than ever. The worst part is that when I called the office to get recommendations or help there is no way to talk to a person only leave a message on a generic answering machine. After 3 attempts on 3 different days of leaving messages asking for help, I never received a call back. I feel like the only way to get a call back is if you say you want another appointment leading to money in their pockets. To top it all off Dr Kia said I would be dealing with the problem for the rest of my life and to just get used to it, also he gave no in detail instructions on how to use the medication I was given and the do's and don'ts. ***BEWARE*** read more
