TL;DR Even though this place is in an amazing location, it is not worth risk of not getting insurance papers processed correctly. Beware of this front office staff!! I was told a referral from my doctor is required to make an appt. No problem - I made a special appt with my doctor to get the referral. I then made an appt with Innovative Dermatology. Now, six months later, my Insurance is refusing to pay my claim because "no referral was obtained"! I contact the front office staff to forward the referral (that I figure they MUST have received, since I was able to schedule the appt). They tell me there is no referral on file, like it's no biggie. It took me 25 minutes, questioning them, while they double checked nothing was on file, had NO Explanation how my appt was booked without a referral, and then they gave me the number to Billing. What's that going to do? I'm sure there is 'fine print' that put the responsibility to pay on the PATIENT. Honestly, Innovative Dermatology was so bad with handling insurance / any paperwork, I actually paid out of pocket to go back to my OLD dermatologist. read more

I have been seeing Dr Desai to keep abreast of the spots and bumps which seem to come as we age. Front office staff is excellent with praise to Crystal sh is great. I would have given a 5 star review but as others have said he seems to a bit quick to leave the room. First of all, I asked a board certified doctor specifically and they booked me with Dr. Tim Webster who is not board certified and he is not experienced and educated enough about skin cancer. I tell you this from my experience with visiting him. I went there for full body skin cancer check , melasma, and suspicious spot concerns. He found a suspicious mole that is evolving but he said he doesn't want to biopsy it because I m too young to have a cancer ( I m 30) . Mind you my close friend died at the age of 25 from breast cancer , 19 years old coworker has had cancerous moles removed and my grandpa has skin cancer. He doesn't know how to treat melasma because he told me that I will be just fine by putting a sun lotion which I already do. His cancer screening was really superficial, wasn't thorough at all. He didn't seem to care or treat my skin concerns . Also , his eyes appeared to be red and the front desk office area smelled like weed which I found super unprofessional. Disappointing first (and last) appointment. While PA was very sweet, doctor was rude and unhelpful. He spent approximately 15 minutes with me, told me that if I wanted a "magician" I needed to find another doctor and then had the gall to charge me $340. Dr Seemal R. Desai is an outstanding dermatologist. His office staff Venessa and the other working the appointments desk our very friendly. Most importantly is there Prescription lady. This review is recounting my wife's visit with Dr Desai today: I have never dealt with a more unprofessional/rude doctor in my life. I came home crying to my husband because I felt so terrible from this appointment. I will try to recount my visit as best as possible. A bit of background as to why I went to see Dr Desai. I currently have severe hives that I have been suffering from for over a year. Its very frustrating, my current allergist has given up on me and has said for me to find a different doctor. So I went to see a new allergist that said that he would send in paperwork to Dr Desai's office and they will call me to schedule an appointment to possibly get a skin biopsy done. I printed and filled out the new patient paperwork before arriving to my appointment. Unfortunately, I forgot to fill out what medications I'm currently taking Nurse took me to exam room 3 and did not take my vitals. The nurse said to remove my outer garments leaving under garments on and to wear a paper apron that was handed to me which is open in the back and the doctor would see me shortly. Dr Desai walks in to the exam room and does not greet me nor introduce himself. Then he speaks very rudely and condescendingly with a raised voice asks "WHO SENT YOU HERE?", "WHY ARE YOU HERE?". Then I reply and stated that Dr Douglas sent me and told me that he would send all the paperwork to your office and your office would call me for an appointment, which is what happened. Dr Desai's office called me to schedule an appointment, so clearly they should be aware as to why they are contacting me for an appointment. There is no reason for Dr Desai to behave rudely and ask me "WHO SENT YOU HERE?". I was taken back by why he was so rude. I immediately felt extremely uncomfortable for the remainder of my appointment because I was being put down by a man that never even bothered to introduce himself and his job is to sympathize with me and make for a comforting environment. I've been dealing with these hives and its a very frustrating situation for me as a patient, the last thing I need is someone to be so vile, rude, and inconsiderate and the lack of empathy is pathetic. I told Dr Desai, Dr Douglas sent me here for a skin biopsy. I would think Dr Desai would already have known that from Dr Douglas. I went ahead and told him that Dr Douglas said a skin biopsy needs to possibly be done and Dr Desai proceeded to say we can do one. I'm amazed that he didn't first try to qualify the need for one, but he just agreed to it because I said it. Then he took out the patient paperwork that I filled out and held up the paper (shaking it) and points to the medication section and once again raising his voice and literally scolded me stating "WHAT IS THIS?"(pointing and shaking the paper) "WHY DIDN'T YOU FILL THIS OUT?" Who does he think he is??? You don't aggressively charge your patient like that!! He puts me down, by saying "What is this?" I filled out the form, I can read English. I am also human and can make a mistake by forgetting to fill out that section. Someone that can behave this horribly to a patient, where his job is to care for a patient should not be practicing medicine. I don't care how smart you are, but your job is to take care of me and not to be intimidating, rude, and to put me down. I feel he saw that I am a soft spoken, shy woman so he took advantage of that and behaved so rudely. He never even asked what is my medical history. What is bringing on these symptoms? and everything leading up to why I was in his office. What kind of doctor is this??? His license should be revoked. He is not fit to practice medicine. For the biopsy, the nurse came in and injected some sort of fluid to raise my skin, then Dr Desai took a blade and cut the raised skin. However, after removing the skin, he did not put any type of antibacterial creme/ointment, he just put some vaseline on it. I don't understand why you wouldn't put Neosporin or some kind of anti-bacterial creme/ointment after cutting a layer of skin off someone if not atleast to help with the burning sensation that I've been experiencing since coming home from the appointment. After the doctor left the room, I asked the nurse "Is he usually rude like this or is he just mad today". The nurse replied "Nooooo, this is just his personality". That is the most unprofessional response and excuse I have ever heard in my history of doctor visits. This is unacceptable. I have never felt this humiliated by someone who I am entrusting to take care of me. I believe he realized that he was being a completely asshole with me and before I left, gave me 9 .35oz sample tubes of Eucerin Eczema relief. Most docs give a couple of samples but he gave 9, I think to makeup for his behavior. IT DOESN'T MAKE UP FOR ANYTHING. No individual should have to deal with a doctor with this kind of poor behavior. I was recommended to this Derm by my primary care (Dr. Hewitt- Legacy Medical Village). Had some challenges booking as I was left on hold for 10 minutes and had to call back. They were to get me in before the year was up so I can use the balance on my FSA account. It's a nice office and the staff seemed friendly. I was scheduled to see Heidi at 10:30 (PA) but waited just over an hour. I even came early to complete any required paperwork. I almost walked out I waited so long. Heidi apologized and spent time answering all my questions and seemed to genuinely care and not be in a rush. I appreciated that. I did schedule a follow up, but my time is valuable - hence the sightly lower rating. I will update after treatment and follow up appointment. read more

Horrible. I had an appointment with Dr. Desai a couple of weeks ago. I scheduled my appointment due to severe acne that popped up within the last few weeks. I have never had acne before in my life, and considering I'm almost thirty now, I was mortified. I've been struggling with my self confidence enough without Dr. Desai's insulting remarks. For a 'professional' to walk in and say 'ew' upon seeing my face is completely humiliating. On top of that, he forced me to start accutane, which world require testing once a month. I explained to him that my current position would not let me off one afternoon a month for testing. It's just not possible. He continued to try and shove the product down my throat for several more minutes, then told me he would prescribe me antibiotics and said 'good luck' in this sarcastic tone. I left his office in tears. Fast forward, I get the prescription filled. At the office, they instructed me to take the antibiotic twice a day. When I get the bottle, the bottle says once a day and it is past business hours for the Dr. office AND a Friday. The following Monday, I call the Dr. office to confirm how many antibiotics a day I'm supposed to be taking. They confirm two, but my insurance only covered one bottle a time. They said when I run out (in two weeks), I'll be able to get a refill no problem, because they confirmed with the pharmacist. I go to get my refill yesterday, and I am told by the pharmacist that they STILL DIDN'T have the correct prescription and I CAN'T get another refill since the first one was supposed to be for thirty days! And guess what?? The office was closed AGAIN. I will be calling them today, and will update with the ludicrous tale they give me this time. ***update after many calls between the pharmacist and the office (which I could only leave voicemails because they refuse to answer the phone), the horrible drs office finally understood my prescription issue. They called in a new script. It's now between my insurance and the pharmacist. So happy this terrible experience with Dr. Desai's office is finally over. read more

To update this review more than 3 years later, I am still mortified and have PTSD because of this doctor, Heidi Cook. I never went back for my check-up, as I had to see other doctors due to the trauma I was put through. I went in for an acne concern for my FACE, and ended up leaving with my mole on my BACK gone (I've had that mole since I was an infant and has never been a concern) because Heidi demanded we inspect my whole body due to my place of work at the time, store manager at a tanning salon. I would never recommend this practice to anyone. read more

Walked in today for a first appt. Seemed a little crowded and disorganized. Walked back with the assistant and she indicated I didn't see you put anything down on issues list. I said it was too long for the sheet. She said "well we have to know what we're going to see you about" (with attitude). I started down the list and even brought medication from previous dermatologist, she interrupted me and said we have many other patients to see and we can't be worried about the little stuff. Scheduled my appt. a month ago, received a call Sunday evening the day before saying the Dr. Desai had emergency and they would need to reschedule. Fine, I understand things come up. When I spoke with the office staff the next morning they offered me a 9:30am appt. with the nurse. I told her that I would need to check with my boss and I would get right back with her. After confirming with my boss, I called right back and the girl on the other line said that may not be open any longer. I said "well she just offered it 10 minutes ago". She asked me to hold on, thinking she put me on hold she said "Crystal, the new patient wanted to take the 9:30 appt. and said you offered it 10 minutes ago?" Crystal began talking and saying that it was way longer than 10 minutes but whatever, then the phone suddenly went to hold music. The young lady came back to the line and said that the appt. is not open anymore but there is a 9:40 open, I took it but did tell her if she was going to talk about clients to make sure they were on hold next time. I apologized to her that I was wrong it was 20 minutes. Once I arrived at the office the staff was nice and the nurse even gave me a hug, but told me that she could do the extraction of the cyst on my shoulder in the office but would feel better sending me to a surgeon. No blood pressure taken, no weight taken, a flash light was used. As I was rushed out to the waiting reception, she said that will be $75.00. WHAT!! Are you kidding me? I was here like 5 minutes. They could at least gave me some Vaseline with it. Bad taste in my mouth with this office. Can't say I will be going back. read more

Unfortunately my experience with Innovative Dermatology was an expensive waste of time. I lost my toenail due to trauma and the skin around the nail became itchy and there were tiny bumps appearing around it underneath the skin. The doctor didn't listen to the reason behind the skin irritation and he didn't even take time to examine the skin. He just felt it for 2 seconds and then spouted off some wrong diagnosis. The steroid cream he prescribed made it worse and when I went back for a follow up, he said "oh it's getting better! I'll want to see you again in a couple months to make sure it's healing, but make sure to schedule soon because I will be on vacation for a few months".... Yeah...2 co-pays later and expensive steroid cream and still no sign of improvement. Generally, he was in a rush to get me out of his office. When I went to a different dermatologist who actually took time to examine the skin and listen to how it happened, she told me that the steroid cream was making it worse and gave me something that actually worked. And instead of insisting I make a follow-up appointment, she just told me to call if it worsened or reoccured. I really wanted to like this place, it was close to home and convenient. All three dermatologist are very caring and knowledgeable, Dr. Desai, Dr. Carter, and PA Hedi Cook. I've been seen by all three. Dr. Desai is very straight forward and to the point. He does not sugar coat anything, which I love, but someone people may get offended. Dr. Carter is very caring and always has a smile on her face. Amazing bedside manner. PA Heidi Cook is the smartest PA I've ever met. She goes above and beyond to figure out what's wrong even if it not related to Dermatology. read more

I won't be going back for additional treatment. I was referred by a friend to who recently had a chemical peel that cleared her skin. She was seen by Dr Carter. I had minor breakouts but wanted to brighten my skin. The chemical peel burned my face in 4 spots and left chemical burns on the left side of my face. The nurses didn't seem to care that much and said it would go away in a few days. It's three months later and I'm dealing with the discoloration on my face. I paid for 3 treatments up front and after the first one burned my face and didn't go away in a few days, I called back for a refund of the two future treatments and they are giving me the run around. I will dispute the charges with my credit card company but I'm quite irritated that my face looks horrible and on top of that they are playing games with my refund. Again, I won't go back. read more

We were here to check skin infection for our 5 year old.Dr.Heidi Cook helped us solve our problem.On first look her diagnosis was quick and very apt. We were recommended with our medication and nurse took through next steps. Doctor spent ample time with our questions and checked on our youngest one too. I highly recommend Dr. Desai. I have been procrastinating about going to the dermatologist to have some bumps looked at on my face for years. I finally decided to go in and his office fit me in within the week for a Dec 23rd appointment. I wanted to take advantage of having fully met my medical deductible if possible. He stayed late the Friday before Christmas so I could be seen. Most doctors "shut down" the month of December, but not a caring physician like Dr. Desai. I ended up having 46 bumps lasered off. I would only trust Dr. Desai to work on my face. I already gave his name out to two other friends and my husband is going for a consult as well. I came here to have a small procedure done. From the moment I walked in the door the staff was friendly and courteous. They definitely lightened the mood. Cheryl went above and beyond explaining my insurance and what would be and wouldn't be covered. As for the procedure, it went flawlessly. It's only been a few weeks and there is almost no noticeable scar or mark. I would highly recommend visiting them for any problems you have. Do not make the same mistake. You will be over charged on the office visit, They write prescriptions for hundreds of dollars and say they do not know how much drugs cost. BUT MOST OF ALL YOU WILL NOT GET BETTER even FOR A COMMON RASH. They are very good at not listening and ignoring your requests/concerns. They will give you samples of meds....that will cost you hundreds with a prescription. It is like they are working for their drug representative and pushing their products on you. Even the Pharmacist questioned the prescription. When you call with questions because you are not better, they are rude and unprofessional. They want you to come back in for an additional office visit to charge you more. Bottom line is this office does NOT CARE about you, they just want your MONEY!!!! read more

Very poorly run office, there many good dermatologists in the area, I recommend finding another one. Both me and my husband have been patients of Dr. Desai and we have had one frustrating experience after another. A few things that have happened. 1. After one of my office visits I was called and told my prescription was sent to the pharmacy inside the doctors building. I explained I wanted to use the pharmacy by my house, the same one I listed on my paperwork. The lady argued with me and said Dr. Desai liked to use the pharmacy in his building. I told her I didn't care, I needed a pharmacy that was convenient, where I got my prescription was not their concern. This took 2 days and several phone calls to get sorted out. 2. My husband goes into the dermatologist office for medication administered through a shot for Psoriasis. There have been several occasions that he shows up for his appointment and the medicine was not there. The medication takes a few days to ship and arrive, clearly, they do not plan properly and request it in enough time. At a minimum, they should check the day prior and call him to reschedule if they do not have what is needed for his appointment the following day. 3. Today, the final straw. I had an appointment for a 10:00am facial with the esthetician, I arrived at 9:50. At 10:20 I approached the front desk and asked how much longer. I was then informed that the esthetician was not there due to a family emergency. She then said they had just found out at 9:20am, which means they knew when I checked in, yet let me sit in the waiting room for 25 minutes. I am then told that I cannot see the esthetician anyways since I have not seen Dr. Desai in recent months. None of this was explained to me when I made the appointment. Needless to say, we have been patient with this office but will be finding another dermatologist. read more
