We made an appointment for our little man's first haircut and we're a bit late but they still greeted us with a smile and happily accommodated. We were shown over to the car for little man's, and got his little cape on before she asked us what we were hoping to do for his hair. Our little man came out with a ton of hair and we weren't sure what to do so she presented us a few options and we met somewhere in the middle. She was kind, and gentle with our little and he was laughing and had a blast the whole time. Afterwards he received a little prize and gift certificate with a picture and a lock of his first haircut. I was running about 10 mins late the day of the appointment because of traffic, I usually travel from afar to come here because my kids like the experience. I call and ask if it's ok if I am 10 mins late and the lady up front is always rude and without hesitation says we don't "accommodate" that. I'm like cmon lady even the doctors office gives you 15 mins before rescheduling. How long does it take for a kids haircut anyways? Oh well I had to call somewhere else and they took me in right away. Anyways the people there are always nice but the lady up front I always have bad experience with, I am not sure if it's only me. We took our daughter here for her first haircut and we were not disappointed at all! The fact that extra care was taken to make this a very special and extremely memorable moment is beyond words. My daughter was given a certificate with the lock of the first snip in a bag, a picture was taken by the stylist and printed and placed on the certificate, and she braided my daughters hair AND a free hair bow for the first cut! Again a very special and memorable moment we will never forget. This made it so easy for us to make this our go to spot for our daughter. We just moved back to the area and were happy to have found a place like this one. All the staff are great and very friendly with their customers. We got back a little while ago from my 3 year old son's haircut. He always has an issue with getting haircuts and I usually end up having to secure him in my lap in order for any kind of cut or even trim to happen. This time with Heather was EASILY the most pleasant experience we have ever had for my son. He was able to let her know that he was afraid of the "buzz buzz" and only wanted the "snip snip" and was happily distracted with all sorts of Baby Shark and car videos the whole time. By the end of the haircut, he was even able to be convinced to allow the use of the "buzz buzz" at his neckline and around his ears. I've been putting off the big first haircut for my 2 year old for awhile now since I want it to be long, but after weeks of looking like she put her finger in an electrical socket I decided it was time to brave a haircut. I did what I do in all new situations: looked for a Berenstain Bears books. It turns out the bears never had to trim all that fur because such a book doesn't exist. Fortunately, Blues Clues came to the rescue this time. After Toddler R read her new haircut book a few times she insisted that she needed a haircut like her new friend Sprinkles in the book. My next mission was to figure out where to take a curly haired 2 year old who doesn't like to sit still. I was anti kids places out of fear that they wouldn't know what to do with our genetically cursed curls, but had a feeling that taking her to my fancy schmancy salon would be a bad idea. A friend insisted that Mita here at kidsnips did a fabulous job here at kidsnips so I figured it was worth a try. I made an appointment and shared the good news with Toddler R that she'd soon be able to see when they removed the hair that was then blocking her eyes. As soon as we walked into kidsnips I realized I didn't need a book to get her excited for a haircut. I can't imagine a kid not wanting to get his/her haircut in such a fun atmosphere. My little one was asked to pick out her favorite movie - thank goodness they had her favorite (Beauty and the Beast) movie in stock. What's a first haircut without Belle to share it with? She then made herself comfortable in one of their adorable chairs shaped like a truck. And then Mita worked her magic... Mita is a kids haircut pro, which she should be after working her for 9 years! She was great with my daughter and gave her a fabulous haircut. As soon as she was done I was kicking myself for putting this off so long because she looked so darn cute w/ her new stylish hair. Toddler R had the best time (the balloon and toy from the treasure chest helped make this her favorite outing of the year). This was $20 well spent! It's been 10 days since the big haircut and she's still talking about it and asking when she can go back for another haircut. They also sent us home with a first haircut certificate (complete with a lock of hair), which my daughter points to excitedly everyday. On our way out the door Jill (the owner) put some sparkles in my daughter's hair and mentioned that they also cut mom and dad's hair too. 100% recommend KidSnips in Deerfield! My twins had their hair cut experience with Jill and she was amazing. She should know she now has a new customer for years and years to come. They had tablets and toys and everything in-between to keep your kids entertained. Not only did the boys have a great haircut and it styled well. But she also was very patient with them. She did not rush the process and worked while waiting for the kids to stay still and move their hands. There was no holding kids down and more importantly the kids weren't screaming in horror. Jill was absolutely amazing. I highly highly recommend her services. For the kids first hair cut with Jill she even took photos of them and sent a small bag of their hair home on a certificate for a photo album. Love this. I don't think there is a local business that is as well run as Kidsnips in Deerfield. The manager Jill is a gift from heaven and handles every situation with poise, humor and grit. She also trains her people and treats them with respect so they stay a long time. I have taken my kids there since they were babies and EVERY TIME is a positive experience. I get my own hair cut there because they are quick, reliable and talented--they actually care how you feel about your haircut and will adjust it if you are unhappy. I hope Kidsnips is there forever so I can walk in when I am 90 years old and watch Jill and her gang handle kids and adults of all ages and see them all walk out with great haircuts and happy smiles on their faces. read more

Worst haircut experience of my life. I took my son and daughter in and the hair dresser cut my daughters bangs in the middle of her forehead and made her look ridiculous and my sons hair looks so uneven at the back even though I had to have her fix it twice. The stylist did not listen to anything I told her nor did she take the time to style my kids hair at the end. This is the second time I have had a bad experience at kidsnips and I will NEVER be going back. I cut/trim my kids at home and do a much better job and have no professional training. Since we found Mr. Todd, we have been bringing our 2 year old to him exclusively. He was so patient and quick with our kiddo, who doesn't always enjoy haircuts. We went in today, expecting to see Mr. Todd after booking with him online. We were told at check in that Mr. Todd was no longer working there. Not only were we so sad to hear this, but we weren't given any courtesy call prior to walking in the door. We did see another stylist, but if we had known ahead of time, we may have tried to do some research to find someone more like Mr. Todd. It may seem minor to most families, but finding someone who knows how to work with neurodivergent kids can be tough and just walking in and finding out that person isn't there anymore after making an appointment is not appreciated. read more

I miss Mita. I've been taking my son here for the past 4 years and quite honestly I'm not sure why. The lady that cut my sons hair today seemed absolutely miserable. She never cracked a smile, nor did she try to engage with my son, that's fine. However, the haircut...oh the haircut was HORRIBLE!!! My son walked away with uneven EXTREMELY short bangs (picture a young Herman Munster). She barely took anything off the top after I asked her repeatedly. She left long chunks and uneven parts all over. I got tired of her bad attitude and ignoring my requests that I just gave up. I will be taking him somewhere else tomorrow so they can clean up her mess before his graduation on Friday. If she hates her job this much then maybe she should just quit. read more

I took my 4 year old daughter to Kidsnips based off a referral from a mom's group that I belong to. I have been having a difficult time getting my daughter to sit still during haircuts and it usually ends up in a bit of a tantrum. Taking her to Kidsnips was a wonderful experience. My son is Autistic which in the past made going for a haircut a very sad and traumatic experience. As a parent it was awful to have to hold him down and fight for every second in the chair. Until we found Jill, we dreaded each cut and often let him go too long between cuts. I simply can't say enough about Jill and her staff at KidSnips. They treat my son with respect, with patience and really welcome him when he comes. They know exactly what videos to put on for him, and most importantly they know to talk to him in calming and respectful way. Jill at KidSnips has been cutting my son's hair from day one - he's now almost 6. Jill is the store manager (most people think she's the owner, and she's the blonde chick in their print & tv ads) and she really does a great job. Kids are pleasantly distracted with dvds, GameCube and other things while they are getting their hair cut. There are TONS of toys too... Great for a quick grab if you'r on your way to a birthday party or something. They also carry kids shampoo, styling products, accessories, etc. I've also seen the stylists do elaborate updos for little girls, even spraying glitter on their hair for that "sparkly touch." Prices are a little on the high side ($17 for a simple boy's cut - not including tip) but I think it's worth it. The -1 star is simply for not always being on time. We've had an appointment every time we've gone there, but almost never get seen on-time. Usually the wait is about 5-10 minutes or so - sometimes longer. If I could deduct a half star, that would be more appropriate. read more

Mr. Todd is a miracle worker! My 4.5 year old son has always hated haircuts and Mr. Todd is the first stylist we have found (there have been many) that knew exactly how to disarm my anxious little guy. Once I told Mr. Todd that my son has anxiety with hair cuts - he was responsive immediately. He was completely amenable to letting my child stand and look at the toys instead of insisting on getting over to the chair, brought the ipad to him to let him choose his own content, and spent a significant amount of time letting my son warm up to him by asking age appropriate questions, getting down on his level and giving him space. (My son was huddled in a corner for a good 10 mins before he began to warm up. We never felt rushed.) Mr. Todd was really great at reading my child's comfort level, engaging with him and speaking empathetically about the parts I had told him were the most "scary" to my child (the ears and the buzzer). Mr. Todd was patient, gentle and completely nailed the cut. My son responded beautifully, never needed a break as he often has in the past and shed not one tear. Jill reached out to me when I wrote a not so good review on KidSnips in Vernon Hills. She offered to give me a gift certificate for a free haircut for my son which we could use at any Kidsnips location, "to make it right". I was very disappointed with my sons' haircut... I thought it was very nice of her and I took her up on her offer. It took months before I made the appointment but decided to take my son to the Deerfield location, where Jill works and made an appointment to see her. She seems really good with kids but most importantly, she listened to what I wanted done. I liked how the haircut turned out and even my son told me the next day that he likes his haircut! :) In addition, there was an adult man who came in after us, to see Jill! If a grown man comes to see her, she must be doing something right! I think we may have a found a winner! ;) read more

Pro's and cons here: Pros: Jill does an awesome job of cutting hair. It's easy to get an appointment and they get you in and out quick, which is great because I have three crazy kids who do not sit still. Convenient parking in the parking lot behind the mall. Open on Sundays - thank you! One of my kids is terrified of getting their haircut and Heather and Natalie are both great with him! Cons: We have had mixed results with the other stylists. All those toys - the place is packed with them. I don't mind that there are toys for sale but would prefer them all to be under $5 or something small like a little dinosaur figurine or toy car. Not my favorite. Never has been. I completely want to like KidSnips, but I just can't. It's not often I write a negative review, because I'm a huge supporter of all business, but I have to tell you that after three visits to KidSnips in Deerfield we're officially never going back. Our twins are also in 1st grade now, so maybe that has something to do with it. We've moved on to another place, so I'm writing this review in retrospect. I don't care for their business model. I feel like the place is cramped and hard to move around in because of the shelves stocked full of overpriced games and toys. The Deerfield environment is chaotic, and it seems like the focus is on anything but the actual haircut. As far as the overall cut and experience, each time we came in for a trim, the stylist would ask us if we wanted the Justin Bieber. Ah, noooo! Our kids have cool funky longish hair. "Nope, just a trim please." We do have great memories and pictures of the boys' first official haircut in the fire engine chair, but that was then. By the time we got to the cutting station, our kids were worried about quickly picking the right game or movie, because the stylist insisted on them picking one. By that time there was 10 minutes left for the cut. At the end of the cut the stylist would ask us what we thought, and because we are generally very nice people and just wanted to get the heck out of there, we always smiled and said, "looks great!" We always left feeling like $18 for a 10-minute nothing cut was a total and complete rip off. You might wonder why we kept going back then? That's because our friends kept going there and still do. We figured we must be too picky, wanted to give them a second and third shot. They are also very nice there, and our stylist was a sweetheart. Just because this place didn't work for us, maybe it will for you. Our family tends to fall a bit outside the norm, so if you want the norm this could be the right place for you. read more

Down side: I hate all the toys, games, packed place with everything you can spend money on it. It might become a problem when your kids want to bring things home. I went for my child's first official haircut and the results were less than stellar. While I didn't specify that I wanted anything specific, it was a very "bowl on the head" kind of cut. There was no layering, no texture, just strait cut where it was long. Because my son has a full head of hair, it ended up kind of looking like a 70's shag. She did it quickly, and I understand that time is of the essence with little ones. But I did have to ask her to at least trim spots that had been missed and were very obvious. It seems like a very expensive place to get an extremely basic cut that i could have done at home. My husband and mom both agreed that it was a pretty lame cut for a $25 (with tip) haircut. Also- the toys... it looks like a toy store. I understand that this is a way for them to make more money, but it is a little overwhelming and extremely cluttered. read more
