I have been going to Taylor Reese for 23+ years. I am a loyal client of Mouna, Michelle, &…read moreRaymond, but have received services from many members of the staff. I come here because the stylists and colorists are the most professional, educated, and talented artists. The continuing education they seek out sets them apart from any other salon in the area. From the moment you arrive at Taylor Reese, you are greeted with smiles and caring conversation. It is an upbeat, yet relaxed vibe. The assistants wash your hair with the finest products tailored to your needs. Each one of them is kind and allows you to relax and enjoy your shampoo and treatments. Taylor Reese provides an array of services and accommodates the client's requests. Each stylist has a specific area in which they shine. The staff will assess and recommend the right professional to make your hair vision come to life. Raymond and Mouna are color geniuses. Mouna's skills are unmatched. She has been a ray of sunshine, setting a high bar for hiring staff. Raymond educates other colorists across the country. Personally, I feel the utmost gratitude, especially to Michelle. She has given me back my confidence and self-esteem with my extensions. She cares deeply for her clients. I am blown away by how often Michelle seeks opportunities to grow, learn, and evolve her skill set. She travels often to take part in courses and to hone her craft. Beyond her mad skills, she is reliable, gracious, and truly understands her clients' needs, and she immediately puts us at ease. A negative Yelp review of Michelle is just not accurate. It makes absolutely no sense. She is the consummate professional. She has a beautiful soul and leads with her whole heart. Many of Michelle's clients, including me, were given the chance to feel beautiful once again with her gorgeous extensions. There are extensions, and then there are Michelle's extensions. I often tell her that I love my "your hair". She elevates the process with the finest hair available. Her ability to color-match is genius. It's impossible to imagine anyone not having the best experience in her care. Michelle is the very best. If you are looking for the best salon, Taylor Reese is the one. It's a place you can count on to be in good hands. Literally.

Well, I should have listened to my intuition... I went shopping for a salon in the highland Park,…read moreHighwood area. I wasn't looking for anything fancy, just something that wasn't a chain. When I initially went in to blow by blow (what a stupid name btw), they're pricing seemed ridiculous, and they seemed pushy. It was 80.00 for a haircut and 80.00 for a color treatment. I decided to give them a chance any way because the woman making appointments was extremely kind and helpful. Color: I went in wanting something different for summer, but not crazy. The stylist had 0 creativity and 0 patience and pushed me to a color of her choosing -surprise surprise, it was my natural color, exactly. Also, she only dyed the top of my hair, then did something they call a shine treatment, which seemed like plain old conditioner. I told the stylist I expected a full color treatment, and wanted to make sure I'd have the same color root to tip. She said I was wrong and shouldn't question her professionalism. When they dried my hair, I showed her that the tips of my hair were definitely not the same color as my roots. Instead of fixing it, she argued with me for 5 minutes, then insisted that she knew what she was doing and my hair looked good to her. I didn't want to risk having my hair completely ruined by an angry stylist, so I didn't push any further. Haircut: I showed my stylist a picture of exactly what I wanted and told her exactly what I didn't want. . She again said she knew better than me and said that the picture of what I wanted was the style I didn't want. She dried my hair with no product, parted my hair differently than I do for the dry haircut, argues with me for every point from length to style, keeps me.away from the mirror until it's too late to tell her that everything is 100% wrong. Ugh, I want to cry. I've grown my hair out for 2 years only to have someone hack away at it. I can't even hide it in a ponytail. She knows I'm unhappy and sort of tries to appease me, so she gives me curls, which hide my bad haircut, and I walk out with exactly the wrong color and cut and am out 200.00 and 2 hours of my time. Tldr: unprofessional hair stylists don't listen and bully you into taking whatever they feel like giving you.

It was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. I had talked to her before the appointment because I had a special occasion coming up and wanted my cut freshened up. I left the salon with something I absolutely did not want and was so upset. I called to tell Judith how I felt and was met with a cold unconcerned response. I thought I would never go back, but this spring Lilia came back, and I booked as soon as I could. My appointment was scheduled, although pretty far ahead as she was busy. I even put a deposit to hold it. Today I realized that my appointment was scheduled for tomorrow and I had not heard anything from the salon. I called to confirm and found out that again Lilia is not working. This time nobody bothered to call and tell me that my appointment had been cancelled nor offer me any alternative. If you cancel with them less that 24 hours, they charge a sizeable fee but seem to not give the same courtesy to their clients. I do not recommend this place. The stylists are good, but the owner has a big chip on her shoulder and has some questionable business practices. I contemplated not writing this updated review but changed my mind after this most recent incident. Consumers should be aware. Very disappointed.

I was highly recommended to this salon from someone who has gone here for years. I felt this was a…read morereally good recommendation. I was completely wrong. This person who recommended me always had beautiful color. I was looking for a single process dye. I wanted my highlights to show through. If someone is trained properly with color, this is not hard. Apparently, the woman I was recommend to did not have the training. Her name is Sona and I would NEVER recommend her. She is a nice person but runs her clients like an assembly line. She does not listen to the customer. I came in with sun bleached hair. I do a lot of gardening. The sun does change the color. I wanted her to get as close to the natural color of my hair as possible which is brunette. This has never been a problem before. She looked in my hair and said she could see where it was darker. Instead of making the color what I wanted, she made the color match the sun bleached hair which was easier for her so she could get to the next client. My hair has a red glow. It is really ugly. I refuse to go out in public looking like this. Does nobody understand what this does to a person? I just want to cry every time I look in a mirror. She really did a number on me. She also said I needed a glaze. I never had this before from anyone. I have no idea what a glaze is or what it does. She never explained this to me nor did she tell me the cost. The customer always needs to be informed so the customer can make a logical decision. I figured this would be a temporary color wash. Maybe $10? When I went to pay I got sticker shock they added on $35.Not everyone in the NorthShore is wealthy like most assumes. I know the value if a dollar but I struggle for every penny. This was a scam in my eyes and to get a commission for something that was not needed. Be ware of additional costly services that are not needed. In all my years of having my hair colored,I never had a glaze on a single process dye. I still have no idea why one needs this. I did talk to the manager. I wanted to talk to the owner but she made herself obsolete. I don't like talking through people. This is how misunderstanding and miscommunications happen. I did talk to the manager who talked to the owner. Horrible! You need to talk directly with the owner. This never happened. I asked many times. I also asked this manager if this somewhat of a colorist is a master colorist or on her way. I wanted to see her certificates. Apparently she is just someone off the streets who does coloring. She has no certificates for me to see. She was not licensed. In all my years of coloring my hair, I have never seen anything like this. I was told they would tear up my check. We will see if this is true but I was also told I can not have any of their services again. They think this is customer service friendly. I don't think so. I was left with a mess that will be very costly and take many months to correct. The color is uneven. I am so embarrassed. They simply do not care. I do not recommend going here. It was a horrible experience. Just be honest if you can't do what the customer wants. This is all I have ever asked.
