Black Creek Park is another great park in the state of Alabama. Black Creek Park has a couple of baseball fields, a few pavilions (that also have ceiling fans), a nice walking path, adequate parking and more. I came here for a walk after dinner and I truly enjoyed my time at Black Creek Park. If you are in the area, go check it out.

The Fultondale Children's Park is a great spot for families! The large grounds features a fenced in…read moreplayground and pavilion area as well as a grassy area with swings and statues of animals. Restrooms and additional picnic tables are available as well, but make sure you have a permit before having a party at the tables (call 205-281-7950 for permits) and note you are NOT allowed to have birthday parties under the pavilion per city ordinances. The Children's Park is located across the parking lot from the Fultondale Bark Park and you can also reach the Rails to Trails, 3.4 mile, running path from the park (note, it's a 3 mile trail if you start from The Children's Park and run left, take the path on the right and you're .4 miles from Black Creek Park). If you're looking to lengthen your run, the park itself has a gravel trail that runs the perimeters. If you take the path surrounding the park, you'll also meet up with Black Creek, there are a handful of benches to lounge on as your enjoy the sound of running water. This park has plenty of open spaces if you're looking to run around, lots of trees and plenty of parking. Two things to note: the front gate of the playground is regularly broken, so much so that it will not open enough to get a stroller or wheel chair through. There are two side gates you can use. Also, the park shoulders Stouts Road, which can have very high traffic, and only has a farm fence stopping children from running into the street. Definitely use caution if you have wandering little ones. Otherwise, look for the statues of the giraffe, fish, elephant, hippo and more and have a great time!

Some parts of the trail are paved, and others parts a gravel. It runs along Shades Creek, and there are some benches along the path to sit and look at the water. The only bathrooms are next to the Mountain Brook Elementary School sports field / Jemison Dog Park. There are 2 single person bathrooms, which have always been pretty clean.

The walking trail is pretty decent which has you going in different directions depending on which part you want to start off with. Certain areas are closed off because of construction, but you still can get a good walk in. Years ago, I brought my students here on a field trip. There are healthy eating classes and workout classes offered in the warmer months. Check their FB page or website for exact times and dates. One of the coolest parts of this park is watching the trains go by. It's not called Railroad Park for no reason, lol. Parking can be tricky when there's an event being held here. But that's no fault of the park itself. There's nothing like a peaceful walk in the park and this park is the perfect place to do just that. Come visit!

It's just a short drive from downtown, and one of the best perks is that parking is free and you can walk around the statue grounds without paying anything. Even if you don't go inside, the overlook alone is worth the trip for the skyline views and photo opportunities. If you're interested in the history behind the statue and its restoration, there's a museum on site that adds a lot of context. Admission is $8, and that ticket also lets you take the elevator up inside the statue to about three-quarters of the way to the top, which gives you even higher and more impressive views of the city. Overall, it's a great mix of scenery and local history. Whether you just want a quick stop for the views or a deeper dive into Birmingham's past, it's a worthwhile visit.

They had refs, rec league players, scoreboard keepers, clean restrooms, vending machines with snacks and a drink machine. There was also a water fountain where you can fill up your water bottles! I brought my 3 kids ages 7 and under and they all loved it! The restroom is a little far from the playground, so keep that in mind if you bring little ones. My tip is to spend a little time at the library and then playground time after to wear the little ones out!
