The park itself is like a bowl, so you're below the sidewalk that encircles it. This creates a little microclimate which is cooler on hot Alabama days. Lots of people set up hammocks here, slacklines, and picnic blankets. There's a few benches and picnic tables, too. There's also a little half-court basketball net! I've been meaning to get a ball so I can run some pick-up H.O.R.S.E. My pup and I hang out here often, there's a group of us little small dog owners that often take up one of the "no pets allowed," fenced-in playgrounds to let the dogs run around. I hope we aren't bothering you, human-parents. Rushton also has a community garden run by the Highland Park neighborhood association. It's in full swing now. No picking others' veggies, though! You can enter to get a box through a lottery system by the HOA. They select different people each year.

Great parking and a perfect venue for a concert in the park or a festival. The park's cobbled path need some work for strollers or disabled people to travel easily. There is a community garden as well as park benches. The tree lined park is comfortable for hot Summer days and picnic dates in the park. I really like this park for a soccer game, kickball or tossing a frisbee. Fenced in playgrounds, filled with sawdust or tree shavings are great for smaller kids. No worries for the children falling of the swings or other playground equipment. I would visit this park more often if I lived in the area.

Tons of picnic benches. Near a bunch fast food places too so you can grab food and make a picnic. You can see people fishing, walking and kids feeding ducks. They have a sign telling you not to feed the ducks bread. Oops didn't see that when I first went. Anyways this place is my favorite place to drive up to and relax. It's right off deo Dora on hwy 31 behind the Krispy Kreme.

As a regular at Rhodes Park I will admit that every time I visit I break the law, but I am always…read moresure to follow another law. Hypocritical? Maybe. Because the park is usually empty, and my dog is generally trained to come on voice command, I always let him off the leash here to play fetch (breaking the law!). However, I always pick up after he does his buisness and I will call you out if you don't pick up after your dog (or offer you a scented poo bag). A new city ordinance imposes a fine if you don't pick up. I love the large trees that provide plenty of shade on hot days. The only reason I don't give this park four stars is because it has so much potential to be better. My guess is that at one point way back when, this park was well landscaped and maintained. The city does a good job of keeping it mowed, but it could be so much more. Maybe one day the three parks on Highland Avenue will get some attention.

Parking is pretty easy to find in spaces along the roads circling the park. Great place to meet your human and doggy neighbors!…read more The park is spacious enough that, even when it's filled with people on a nice day, you still have plenty of room to lay down your blanket and have a picnic. It is super dog friendly, so be careful where you walk, but that's really the only semi-negative thing that I can come up with. As long as it's not freezing or raining, the park always has at least one person in it. And, with Green Central Station right next door now, you can rent picnic stuff or crochet to enjoy in the grass. My absolute favorite thing about the park is that it houses Do Dah Day every year! Definitely an event that can't be missed.

While the park itself doesn't have a lot to offer, the walking path was the real star for me. It was just a nice getaway and a very serene setting to walk and forget the rest of the day. The park also has a small stream and when I was there, there was a group of people doing some work and inspection upon it. Again, I really like the walking path. While it was nothing incredible, it was a great respite from the day-to-day stress and it allowed me to think that I was away from civilization even though I was mere feet from a major roadway. Communities need Parks like this. A place where the people can go and kick back and get away from the day-to-day grind. This particular park certainly met that need.

The side of the park we were on just had street parking or you could park further away at the community center. We opted for the street. The park itself seems like it could really use some updated. I bet when this park first opened, it was amazing. But years of wear and tear are inevitable. And at some point, a large overhaul is in order. The lake was really cool and my kids enjoyed seeing the ducks. I had no idea we had a lake like this with a park in the city. Overall a really cool park that really needs updates. That leaves it A-ok in my Yelp book.

Aside from that, I had no concerns walking the trail alone. I took in all the beautiful city views and the random flowers along the way. I do wish it was kept up a bit better, however. There are downed trees that have been cut but not cleared, a trash can fallen over, etc It's a great place to get some movement in and take in the views!
