Black Creek Park is another great park in the state of Alabama. Black Creek Park has a couple of baseball fields, a few pavilions (that also have ceiling fans), a nice walking path, adequate parking and more. I came here for a walk after dinner and I truly enjoyed my time at Black Creek Park. If you are in the area, go check it out.

Tons of picnic benches. Near a bunch fast food places too so you can grab food and make a picnic. You can see people fishing, walking and kids feeding ducks. They have a sign telling you not to feed the ducks bread. Oops didn't see that when I first went. Anyways this place is my favorite place to drive up to and relax. It's right off deo Dora on hwy 31 behind the Krispy Kreme.

As a regular at Rhodes Park I will admit that every time I visit I break the law, but I am always…read moresure to follow another law. Hypocritical? Maybe. Because the park is usually empty, and my dog is generally trained to come on voice command, I always let him off the leash here to play fetch (breaking the law!). However, I always pick up after he does his buisness and I will call you out if you don't pick up after your dog (or offer you a scented poo bag). A new city ordinance imposes a fine if you don't pick up. I love the large trees that provide plenty of shade on hot days. The only reason I don't give this park four stars is because it has so much potential to be better. My guess is that at one point way back when, this park was well landscaped and maintained. The city does a good job of keeping it mowed, but it could be so much more. Maybe one day the three parks on Highland Avenue will get some attention.

Rhodes Park is yet another one of the numerous green spaces to get out and enjoy in the 'ham. The…read morepark is like a big bowl within the Highland Park neighborhood, and there's a big open space on one side that's great for throwing a frisbee around. Parking is pretty easy to find in spaces along the roads circling the park. If you're hungry after all that exertion, then Rojo and the new O'Henry's are just a couple blocks away, and you can sit on one of the patios there and enjoy the view out into Rushton Park.

I thought that it was interesting that the apartments below the trail had stairs leading up to the trail. Nice benefit to living in the area. I noticed a few of the residents heading up and down the trail with their dogs. Yes, this is a pet friendly trail with waste bins along the trail. The trail seems well maintained without being manicured. The overgrowth of brush is seen along the path without impeding the trail. The views over the city is great when walking, running or walking is nice. Great trail for bike riding, leisurely walks or increased cardio workouts. Bring your kids, pets and or family to capture some city views and get in a good workout. I will be back, definitely wearing a hat! The sun is bright up there!!

I saw several people walking along, a couple joggers and one person with a dog. Everyone was polite and respectful. I did have a gentleman stop and warn me about a man that was up the trail a bit that could potentially be troublesome or make me uneasy. I really appreciated him warning me and telling me to be safe. Aside from that, I had no concerns walking the trail alone. I took in all the beautiful city views and the random flowers along the way. I do wish it was kept up a bit better, however. There are downed trees that have been cut but not cleared, a trash can fallen over, etc It's a great place to get some movement in and take in the views!

They offer small and large dog area with several activities for them to play with as well. A cute sitting area is also available. I think I may have found our new favorite dog spot.

It has some of the obstacles you need to train for the agility stuff, which is cool. It had two sets of double gated for exit and entry with better locking systems than the standard horseshoe shaped versions. Honestly, other municipalities, I'm looking at you Mountain Brook, should be ashamed. The grass was well maintained, again looking at you MB Cahaba River Park. They even had a DJ.
