I live quite close to this little jewel and often forget about it. Me and a couple of buddies decided to grab some food and "go out" to eat at the lake. People were out walking, enjoying the scenery and feeding the animals. We saw a crane, swans, and many different ducks. The scenery was beautiful and peaceful. We gave narrative to the animal's actions and gave some little nicknames. It was a nice outing...if you can stand the pollen!

I love this little lake. Lots of ducks here which means poop, so wear old shoes. It is located in a neighborhood and there is a walking trail easy one great for families and older relatives. Tons of picnic benches. Near a bunch fast food places too so you can grab food and make a picnic. You can see people fishing, walking and kids feeding ducks. They have a sign telling you not to feed the ducks bread. Oops didn't see that when I first went. Anyways this place is my favorite place to drive up to and relax. It's right off deo Dora on hwy 31 behind the Krispy Kreme.

Star Lake is pretty cool. My friend and I came here to have a picnic and walk around one day. We brought our Chipotle bowls and ate at the picnic area, then walked around the lake a couple of times. It's in a nice subdivivion, but is open to the public. There are lots of people and geese galore. Just a head's up, there isn't very many designated parking places if any as we rode together and still and to parallel park in front of someone's house.

    Beautiful sunset at Star Lake.

Star Lake is a small, man-made lake located near the Hoover Country Club in the heart of Hoover. I like to go here and run (ok, I mostly walk...) when the weather is nice because it's usually not too crowded. 2.5 laps is equal to a mile. It's surprisingly quiet and relaxing for being within a couple of miles of Highway 31. Parking spots can be scarce, but there are plenty of side roads that you can park on as well. There's a little picnic table area that is usually filled with kids feeding the residents of the lake (ducks!). Local food trucks also set up shop here every now and then. Definitely check this place out if you're wanting to mix-up your workout routine a bit!

While…read morevisiting Alabama, my friends and I decided to spend a couple of hours here and ended up hiking about 5-6 miles. There's truly no shortage of trails, and the variety keeps things interesting the entire time. The park definitely offers some challenging uphill climbs--especially for us Florida girls who aren't used to elevation--but we powered through and felt very accomplished. One of my favorite highlights was Rushing Rendezvous; the idea of a suspension bridge tucked up in the treetops always excites me, and this one did not disappoint. Of course, when we saw Trail 5 marked as most difficult, it was a no‑brainer--we had to take it. I really enjoyed reading about the history along the way, especially learning more about the Birmingham Mineral Railroad site. I do wish there had been a bit more signage around some of the remaining structures so we could soak up even more history, but honestly, guessing their original purpose became part of the fun. Hands down, I would absolutely come back to explore more of Red Mountain Park. It's a great mix of challenge, scenery, and history--and well worth the visit.

I'm so happy that I found this historical place. Such a great walking and hiking trail. There's also areas to get your cardio on and to sit, relax, pack lunch/meal to enjoy at the tables along the trail. Perfect for bike rides, bird watching and getting away without getting away. I had never heard of this park/trail before and that shocks me considering how close it is to our house. This is parking across the street, but not a whole lot. Perhaps enough room for 6-8 cars. The entire trail follows a stream which adds in a picturesque scene as you cruise along. There is a historic market telling about the blast furnaces that used to be there. There were some people, but certainly not crowded. The trail was pretty smooth for the most part. Very few roots and other trip hazards. Really my only complaint is that its not long enough. And obviously some people ignore the dog waste bags provided for them at the beginning. But overall we loved finding this little gem and will definitely be going back!

There are a few benches, trash bins, doggie bags, educational signage, and parallel parking. The trail connects to the overall system of Mountain Brook Sidewalks and Trails and is part of the Red Rock Ridge & Valley Trail System. So if you're coming to run here be prepared to do some sidewalk running as well to get decent miles in. It's a nice change of scenery, but not really a destination park.
