Excellent place to grab a beer after work and decide on where you want to go to eat. That's about it.
Got stuck working in Garner...With lunch time being spot on for an early dinner...
...On Valentine's Day.
Hubzilla was nice enough to drive out, surprise me and scoop me up just for the occasion- 1 star for that. We mutually agreed to check this place out due to it's proximity...
And it's lack of competition. The IGA and Zaxby's were the other options.
At 5:30, parking was a breeze and we were seated right away surrounded by TV's - All with the same 3 channels on *without* subtitles because, who doesn't love ten screens with the same golf, soccer and last year's NFL recap on mute?
Nice bar area, no "we meet here daily" Cheers vibe. The waitress instantly handed us menus with standard sports bar/restaurant fare and I ordered a sweet tea. Nothing really jumped out at me as unique. Glancing around led me to believe a beer and a burger was the house specialty. Given that this was mid-work, not a kick back and relax event, I ordered a too-inexpensive-to-complain-about sirloin with an add-on side of sauteed mushrooms, Hubz ordered the cheese pretzel ap to split and a cheese steak sandwich.
Our waitress seemed slightly perplexed we were hungry and ready to order; I began hoping she was aware not all who venture into her station would be there for a lengthy, neon-lit dinner amid a backdrop of FlexTape/Flex Seal commercials and the occasional toddler squealing. She moseyed off to put our orders in and while looking at the beers and burgers being carried to neighboring tables I realized the entire wait staff looked just.plain.MISERABLE.
No smiles, lots of heavy sighs and quite the foul mood resonated from all of them. They all seemed to walk as if their pants were three sizes too tight with facial expressions that ranged from dread to...
Sick?
Sick!
Forget the time, I now wanted to make sure I hadn't just walked into The Cootie Pit.
Our waitress reappeared with the same Eeyore demeanor and the pretzels, er, boiled breadsticks with pretzel salt, then meandered on back to the kitchen.
I saw her laugh so I decided influenza was likely not on the menu and maybe, just maybe we'd ventured into a poorly managed establishment.
FWIW The pretzel is a safe bet for those ISO a beer and a bite. The cheese is bland - Ask for hot sauce when you order. This rates the 2nd star. The only condiments within arm's reach are ketchup, salt & pepper.
Uh huh. Yeah.
Anyway, speaking of waitress, a new one, not the Eeyore one, abruptly stops at our table and quite loudly says, "JEEZUS!" And begins to sit the CHEESE STEAK my husband ordered in front of me --
Forget that it sounded enough like The Big Guy it got the attention of others -
Clearly she was not about to be slowed down by social graces such as proper greetings or gaining the knowledge of who ordered what BUT! The good news is, her tone, speed and indifference convinced me she was not physically sick and contagious. I said, "No, that's his." Without a word Hubz got his cheese steak sandwich placed in front of him and I got a sirloin and a baked potato placed in front of me then she VANISHED.
No mushrooms. No " ya need anything?" window for A1 Sauce (yeah, you need it) and certainly no "I'll pay for it just please bring me butter for this potato!"
We just got what we got.
The fries with the cheese steak were begging for malt vinegar, Hubz waited briefly with me on the mushrooms to add some to his sandwich. It was soup on the bottom - Greasy and soggy with roughly two teaspoons of meat amid a sprinkle of cheese and close to a cup of bell peppers. It made no sense at all. He ate half of it using 1/4 of my steak.
Once Eeyore reappeared, the mushrooms were forgotten, not on the tab and I got a glare for asking for A1.
At that point, Hubz asked for a box and our check: For all I know, she'd recently been dumped and having to interact with couples was rough. Maybe we were her first table and goofing up on what is usually a goldmine for wait staff put her into an even fouler mood?
Who knows?
Again - This would be a good spot to grab a beer after work while deciding on where to go to eat. read more
