My 11 y/o son injured his leg and we went into the tavern to get a table and rest his leg. I asked if he could sit down while I purchased some drinks and waited for the rest of our party. We were told, "you're not allowed inside unless your entire party was here." I asked if we could sit for 10mins until the rest of my party arrived. They kicked us out and told me, "he can sit on the ledge outside until your party gets here". It was 8 degrees outside and none of the employees could care less. Never have I dealt with such a rude staff. I'll never go to Kickapoo tavern again! Horrible staff!! read more

On a cold snowy night , it was well worth the walk to have a late evening dinner. We started off with the green chili queso with great tortilla chips. Very tasty, different, but warm to some cold hungry customers. We split a cheeseburger, great idea , they are huge . Free range beef , bacon, cheddar cheese, grilled onions , fresh lettuce and tomato. Our side were onion rings and quinoa salad. There were not many people in the restaurant when we were there . Kickapoo Tavern was home base while on vacation in Keystone. Whenever we got off the mountain and were waiting on our group, it was our go to place for a cold beer. This bar and grill is hands-down one of the most affordable places in the village. Which is saying a lot, considering it's the first restaurant you walk by when getting off the mountain. They have a great beer selection and even better prices, again, considering the location. Happy hour is from 3 to 6 and all draft beer, house wine, and well liquor is $1 off, plus some other specials. We came in for beer a few times, and service at the bar is lackluster. One time, the bartender walked away with my credit card and proceeded to take shots with other coworkers before returning my card to me. However, while dining at a table, the service is considerably better. Our group enjoyed a meal here on a busy Saturday afternoon. Everything on the menu sounded great, and it looked delicious as it came out. We ordered the gyro, burrito, and two burgers. Everyone really enjoyed their food and there were no complaints. I regret not trying the wings, which looked and smelled absolutely tantalizing. So if you're a wing person, go get some and report back. Overall, we had a great experience and I give it a solid 4 stars. Pros were the food, cold drinks, and good prices. Minus one star for the inattentive bartenders. read more

We were blown away! The pretzel bites come with this cheese that has some sort secret ingredient that makes you want to order more. The buffalo wings had the right balance of heat with some sort of Jamaican spices tossed on. French dip was on a tasty toasted bun and perfect horseradish sauce. The outdoor patio was perfect with lots of sun, shade, and breeze. The service was friendly, especially Michelle. Bathrooms were super clean. We've been back, we'll be back. read more

We loved the food and the atmosphere at Kickapoo. It's right in the heart of Keystone and can definitely get busy during lunch and apres ski, hence the 90-minute table limit. Food and drinks were delicious both times we were there but it's not cheap (which is the only downside)...but none of the restaurants in River Run are. read more

Came in here after a morning of skiing a little past noon. Since we were very hungry, we decided to see if we could get a table. We got in right away, they were being very efficient with the 25% capacity rules; maximizing space and enforcing 1.5 hour limits for eating (which is plenty). They were very attentive with service and drinks. It didn't take long for food to come out either. Can't go wrong with a burger (although the fries got way over cooked and were tough). Would still definitely eat here again on ski trips, but not something to go out of your way for. read more

Um yes. Yes please. And to think I was just going to eat the jerky I had in my pocket on the gondola ride up the mountain... Thank goodness my husband proclaimed he was hungry and wanted to stop in at a place to eat real quick or else I wouldn't have experienced the tasty lunch I had! We stopped boarding and skiing briefly at 1pm and walked into Kickapoo Tavern as it was the closest eatery to us. It was PACKED and I thought we were going to have to wait an eternity for a table but within 15 minutes we were seated! My husband ordered the burger with cheesy tater tots and I was feeling the sides that were options to add to salads thus I got a simply grilled piece of salmon, chicken and a side of avocado. Another 15 minutes or so went by and BAM, the food arrived. Initially I was a little sad because I wished for bigger portions but honestly, the chicken and salmon were so good, that I forgave them for not giving me bigger servings and you know what?! What they got me actually wound up being enough, because who wants to hit the mountain again feeling lethargic from a food coma?! Exactly! Totally worth stopping for! We got on the waitlist via Yelp and it was such a smooth and quick process. Our table was ready right when they said it would be and we were seated immediately. At our table, we ordered the pulled pork sandwich, two burgers, and the tacos and everyone was impressed with their food. I am not sure why I haven't reviewed before this time but here goes. We discovered this place in 2020 midst the pandemic and operations in Keystone were limited, if any. I believe eateries were only seating 25% to capacity. The first time we ate here was mid day about 2pm and there was no wait, although they were seated mostly to their capacity at that time. I enjoyed a glass of wine and shared some appetizers with my family. Service was good and scenery was great being at the base of the mountain in River Run Village. We returned the next evening to eat dinner as a family. This time there was about a 1.5 hr wait - considering River Run was VERY limited on places to sit and dine, we chose to wait -- although waiting was outside in the cold --- these are the sacrifices you make when traveling in a pandemic. We did have a small mishap with the waitlist as I went to see where we were in line and was informed that they showed I had removed myself from the waitlist. Upon showing them that I still was on the waitlist per Yelp they didn't hesitate and got us back in line where we should have been. Once again service was good - our server was personable and the food good. Upon returning this season Dec 2021 I was happy to see Kickapoo Tavern returned to full capacity seating. I placed ourselves on Yelp wait and was given an estimated 45-60 min wait... well 30 min later our table was ready and we hadn't left the condo ---so I removed us and added us back to find out that now the estimate was a 90-120 min wait. Again, we chose to wait as it was not a big deal - we really wanted to enjoy the atmosphere again --- and finish watching the Fiesta Bowl --- GO COWBOYS! --- We headed to the village about 15 min into our wait and hung out in the village until our table was ready - total we waited about 35 min to be seated. SO I say all this to say - just because you are told it may be a 90 min wait - it's really worth it to stick it out - most of the tables turn pretty quickly. THE VISIT: I saw the same faces as I did a year prior (staff) which is always nice. Everyone that we came in contact with - Host, 3 servers, were all very polite and personable. We chose to share appetizers again : Chicken Nachos & Pretzel Bites. Both were great. Nachos were piled high with queso, pico, chicken, and black beans. ADD guacamole - they have some of the most fresh amazing guacamole that I have ever had --- and yes, I do consider myself a guacamole snob. Pretzel bites were covered in a garlic butter sauce and cooked to perfection - slight crunchiness on outside yet doughy goodness on the inside. The sauce it is served with states "queso" but it is closer to a Beer Cheese --- so Queso flavored beer cheese. Again, I don't like beer cheese but enjoyed this one. All in all I don't really understand some of the reviews. I haven't had a bad experience yet. I think it's all in expectation of what you are looking for. Prices are very fair for literally being on the middle of the village at the bottom of the mountain. Service is good - everyone has always been nice --- but you have to remember they are BUSY. Literally from the time they open to the time they close --- BUSY. Some may not feel like they are attentive because they don't stop by every 2 seconds but I have never had a hard time getting something that I need and for the most part it may even be a tactic to turn tables -- if you aren't ordering more drinks etc you probably should leave :) They close at 8pm but if their wait list takes them out to that 8pm they may "close early" meaning they won't take people at 7pm etc... read more

I actually really love Kickapoo. I've been here many times over the years, and the most recent was last weekend and once in December. The nachos are huge and bomb - enough for a meal for two people. Waited for over an hour for our lunch that never arrived (Including the simple Chips & Guac) and finally gave up and left, very frustrated. Waiter had absolutely no care about us whatsoever, everytime we asked for an update (if we could find the moron) he said he would check on it, but then he would never return to let us know the status. We also ordered Mimosas and watched them sitting at the edge of the bar for 20 minutes. The whole time we watched several other tables of people come in after us and eat/drink. A friend and I showed up in Keystone around noon and man was it busy everywhere! We decided to give Kickapoo a try and though there was a wait, we only waited 10ish minutes. I thought the food was great and the service was great and we had a spot hear the host stand, so we could see how hard the team was working despite a never-ending rush. My biggest criticism is that we were given a table RIGHT next to the entrance and people were constantly bumping into our table or, if you can believe it, LEANING ON IT?? Great location and service and good food. My friend and our combined three kids had gone up the lift to sled in the summer. We came down hungry! We tumbled in to the first place with outdoor seating and kids' meals. We had excellent service throughout the meal. I ordered a strawberry and apple salad. My friend ordered the chicken brie sandwich. The kids ordered corn dogs and mac and cheese. My salad was delicious. The rest of the food though was okay. The mac and cheese was almost gross. Wow! Really loved this place! We have stayed in River run many times but never tried this place. It was pretty empty when we got there but the service was still excellent our waiter checked on us frequently without being annoying. We got Philly cheesesteak, mushroom swiss burger and a bacon cheeseburger they were all great! We also got pretzel bites that were sooooo good! I needed to send my pastrami back bc it was too spicy and my chemo mouth could not tolerate it but the server was so kind about it! Stopped in for an Irish Coffee on a cold, but beautiful day. Others in my party ordered food and a variety of other drinks. Service was very good. We sat on the patio due to COVID-19 restrictions.
