The fact that it is always busy, but you don't wait long to be served or to receive your food, is always a good sign in itself. Furthermore, the takeaway is a firm favorite among the locals aswell as those from outside Pollockshields, which is always another good sign. Whenever I'm in Pollockshields for a bit of Asian grocery shopping, I always make the now customary visit here. There are no seats, but the food is as authentic Pakistani as you will see. This combined with excellent, polite service and excellent food make this place so popular. A favourite is the samosas - triangular pastries stuffed with seasoned lamb mince and potatoes. The all important mince-potato ratio is perfect and these never fail to disappoint. Or you can try the Chapli Kebab - traditional patties which are made from ground seasoned mince, picture a large flattened burger. Slightly spicy, but delicious and very filling. The Chicken Hut Pollockshields, not to be confused for the Chicken Hut in Govanhill, also invented the kebab roll - a Seekh Kebab completely wrapped in a strip of home made pastry before being baked in the oven. The result is amazing, especially with some kebab or mint yoghurt sauce! Another of my favourites is the chicken fillet burger. This simple item is so often overlooked with so many other takeaways, not only in Glasgow but in Scotland, as they tend to use the pre made frozen chicken burgers, rather than preparing a fresh chicken breast fillet. These never disappoint either and the chicken fillet burgers are very morish. I always get mine with salad, mayonnaise a touch of ketchup and a cheese slice. I have not tried the pizzas or the curries, because the samosas and kebabs always take priority! They also do wraps, hoagies, onion rings, and other standard takeaway munch. I would honestly go as far as suggesting that this is the best takeaway I have been to in Pollockshields, if not the wider Glasgow area. The food is very simple but delicious, and the prices are also very modest. 2 Chapli kebabs, 2 seekh kebab rolls and 2 samosas will cost around £6, including sauce and salad. Well worth every penny. So if you're ever in the area, try it.

Dennistoun BBQ does super casual dining really well. You order at the counter and wait around 10-15 minutes (maybe longer if its super busy) and then they'll shout your name so you can grab your food. I have very specific taste in beef burger so more often than not, I start with a chicken burger at a new place before trying a beef one - I think chicken is generally done better than beef. This chicken burger was RIDICULOUS in size, it was mostly all hanging out of the bun as it was so big. Am I complaining? No way, it was absolutely delicious and had that juicy, smoky freshness from grilled chicken that so many places screw up by overcooking. It was hard to eat though so I ended up just aiming on eating the fillet rather than the burger. I tried a couple of sides; cajun fries and mac cheese. The cajun fries are amazing and probably the best I can remember eating in Glasgow. There was just the right amount of seasoning and they packed a good punch. You know what makes Cajun fries even better? Dipping them into mac cheese. Oh yeh, I went there and I'm not ashamed. My friend Sharon M wasn't all that impressed with the mac cheese but she is pretty judgemental (I mean that as a compliment, she makes a damn amazing mac cheese) - personally, I liked it. It was cheesy, the mac was cooked just right. Simple, and good. This isn't the kind of place to eat and then sit about chatting with your pals, so we headed up the road for dessert. I'll be back sooner rather than later for more of that ridiculous chicken. They also do takeaway - phone in your order so you don't have to wait too long as it was really busy on a Friday night. I understand why.

As the name would suggest it's loaded with American style food, don't be down heartened though this is no run of the mill 'American diner' serving cheap hot dogs and yucky burgers from the cash and carry. The food from Nic's is tasty, well thought out and delicious. There are of course the likes of baked potatoes and sandwiches with lovely looking toppings to be enjoyed. My eyes however were very much glued to the Hot Dog menu where you can try such delights as the amazing Cheesy Pig Dog ( bacon and cheese) or the BBQ Dog (sweet fried onions, BBQ Sauce and dill pickle) or the very tempting Glasga Dog ( black Pudding and fried egg). What makes these dogs in my opinion the best take away dogs in Glasgow is that they fry off their dogs for a few minutes which makes them extra tasty. I've not tried the freshly made pancakes or waffles yet but they do come with some lovely looking toppings - the Banana Beast ( banana, maple, pecan nuts and ice cream) Peanut Butter Jelly Time (peanut butter and blackcurrant or strawberry jam) or the Sweet Porker Stack ( bacon and maple syrup) these are definitely next on my list to try from the menu. On my last visit I finally gave in to the cool looking doughnuts. These lovely little clouds of light dough are made in-house ensuring they are as fresh as they come. The base is so soft and flavoursome, the topping is a luscious thick layer of fondant sprinkled with a variety of American style toppings - Oreo, peanut butter cups, smarties, marshmallows......the list is endless. What really excited me tho was while chatting with the girls they announced that they were expecting their doughnut menus to arrive any minute. Hang on! Let's just think about that for a second........a menu......dedicated to doughnuts.......it's the stuff of dreams! Nic's is a great wee lunch spotwhere they use really good quality food and the girls who work there are all lovely and helpful when trying to make your selection....what's not to love about this place.

When you go in, it looks just like a normal deli... then you notice the amazing menu (taco bowls, proper dogs, "Triple Bypass" baguette etc.) and the cheeky bottle of Buckfast that's apparently used on Fridays to make some of their food a little more special. Going back to the food, it did take me a couple of minutes to choose what to have because EVERYTHING looked awesome. Even the SALADS!!! I was guided by the lovely staff who work there and plumped for the Taco bowl. A large, crispy tortilla shaped into a bowl stuffed with salad, guacamole, sour cream, PULLED PORK (this was my topping), covered with jack cheese and some Glasgow Megadeath chilli sauce. Great stuff. And for dessert you MUST get one of their special donuts... loads of flavours. Think Krispy Kreme but without the nasty aftertaste (you know what I mean!). If you've never been here, cancel all of your other plans and go here ASAP! You won't regret it...

Last Christmas I was doing some last minute shopping with my friend and we decided to go here for a little snack as we were feeling peckish. I opted for my usual kind of baked potato - beans and cheese. It was delicious and not too pricey either! Even better was the fact that we didn't have to wait for an age to get served and the staff here are very friendly too which is an added bonus. I've also been doing my research and found a few facts about Spud U Like potatoes; 1) They are high in fibre which is doubled when you eat the skin. 2) They provide about one third of the recommended daily dose of vitamin C. 3) There are only 25 calories per ounce in a spudulike potato. 4) They are virtually fat free! I was bloody impressed let me tell you! I ordered the tuna, sweetcorn & mayonnaise. I made a crack about the lass frying it because that's what you nutters do innit, fried creme eggs & mars bars! The lass even laughed at me little joke. Me food arrived swiftly and I sat down I tucked in. It was pukka! The potato was light n fluffy, the tuna delicious & the mayonnaise nice and creamy. Nowadays I come here for they're stupendous baked potatoes (yes, a baked potato CAN be stupendous!), they're a good (big) size and you get a very generous amount of toppings & yummy salad. Also they're super cheap. Woo. I can also say the pizzas here are pretty good too - not your fancy Italian style but nevertheless still pretty good. What is really good here is their curries. I have so far only tried a few veggie ones & a couple of chicken ones (their Chicken Tikka & Saag Aloo being my 2 favourites) with garlic naan or buttered chapati & rice and it is all SO damn tasty! Their curries don't feel mega unhealthy either and the taste is always scrummy. For the price you're paying for a take-away curry here it really is the best I've ever had from a take-away/kebab shop. Always friendly guys too (sometimes a little tooooo friendly if ya know what I mean...hut-hum!) & swift & speedy service. I probably never would have eaten much from here bar the usual chips n' cheese if hadn't been for my friend recommending the place to me, I'm so glad she did.
